So I juat got a dark age policy for what appears to be never using a specialist. Any use this? Are there any other specialist dark ages? It has the specialist icon near it so that is why I am assuming it is that.

I would imagine that might be a dark age for not hitting any of the science legacy benchmarks during exploration.

But I think maaaybe some dark ages might be related to some crises? Besides the 8 Legacy Path ones we know about for sure.

Did you by any chance also get both the economic and scientific dark ages? I suspect this might be a sort of "combo" option, but that's just my guess.

I got this option a couple of days ago, and I always place specialists, so I don’t think that would have been the reason. I’ll pay attention to if it shows up again for me to hopefully get some more data points in.

Judging from another screenshot found when you search up the name
Reactionary Absolutism: -2 Specialist Cap. +2 Happiness in Towns but -6 in Cities. +3 Food and Production on Rural tiles.
This looks *so* tempting for a super-sprawly town game. Would love to know more about how it’s unlocked. Out of curiosity, did you get the bourgeois crisis for the exploration era? I remember that at some point it forces you to choose a new government, so maybe it’s linked? Though if not then it could also be the scientific/economic dark age combo mentioned above

Looking at the files, these seem to be related to the Revolution crisis. Other crises also have their own legacy paths in Sid Meier's Civilization VII\Base\modules\base-standard\text\en_us\UnlockText.xml

That's really neat! I swear I saw "Stately Quadrille" as an option even in a past game but didn't think much of it. I fear that Ages tend to accelerate a lot right toward the end, so the crisis events end up not mattering much in my experience.
