The "Heroes of Might and Magic" games. Or the very similar Disciples series. You can get them all dirt cheap of Good Old Games (I'd link to it but I don't know if that would count as advertising).

EDIT: Those are turn-based if it's not obvious.

EDIT: Oops. I see you wanted real-time games. Oh well, I stand by what I said. v:)v

There aren't any good real time strategy games. They're all the same these days. Mine minerals, build buildings, rush units. If you've played Starcraft, you've played them all.

You mean, if you've played Command & Conquer, you've played them all.

The best strategy game that I've ever played was Koei's Pacific Theater of Operation: II. It happens to be a turn-based strategy game.

*cough* EU3 *cough*

The only real time strategies I like are the ones which are quasi-turn based anyway, such as PI's grand stategy games. Anything else is just a fast-paced clicking frenzy which is not at all fun to me.

You know, it's funny. I LOVE click-frenzy games (Diablo anyone?), but RTS's just don't appeal to me anymore.

Also throwing in another accolade for Paradox games.

Turn-based strategy games require in-depth strategical thinking.

Real-time strategy games require a slight bit of tactical thinking and a whole lot of speed-clicking.

I prefer turn-based strategy games.

I like both but RTS tends to get reptitive. They haven't changed that much for the last decade.

Sins of a Solar Empire is an interesting RTS game very different from the usual RTS genre. Also Galactic Civilisations 2 and its expansion are very good turn based space based games.

Hearts of Iron 2 is one of the best WW2 games I have played once its patched and has expansion packs. Has a high learning curve and is in theory an RTS game but its turn based in effect as you pause it alot and a quick game is probably 20 hours. Paradox and Stardock make good strategy games.

Assuming this is meant to refer to, or involve, Civilization, then a true 'Real Time' game would take an awfully long time to play.

I prefer TBS because RTS tends to be more hectic and you must rely on your reflexes more. Besides, it's more real time tactics than strategy. Sins of a solar empire has avoided this very well though, and also supreme commander to a degree.

I go with FPS.
