REALPOLITIK 2

Firstly, if this isn't the correct forum for posting this, i apologise... this looked like the best option.

Demogame players: I bring you news of Realpolitik 2 now being in the final stages of preparation and should be launching within the next week.

For those of you who don't know about Realpolitik, it is similar to Demogame in the basis of it being a Civ game with Civs made up not just 1 person, but a collective of players representing a Governing Body.

How Realpolitik differs from Demogame is that the Governing System is already defined, leaving the customisation, or creative input, in the hands of the players. No need to worry about the rules, they're already in place! What you will need to worry about is politiking for favour to win 1 of 4 electoral positions in the Governing Body of each Civ, or 1 of 3 types of secondary positions. Once in position, you'll have to impress, as every 15 turns new elections take place and you could find yourself back on the bench, so to speak.

You'll also have in your hands the power to make alliances, both public and secret, with players from foreign Civs... but be careful, you'll then be entering a world of potential misinformation, conflicts of interest, or a set up!

We've run RP1 and now we're back with a major facelift. Lessons have been learned, rules defined and the buzz about the game beginning has never been greater.

We've had a good response so far for new players joining. We believe we can easily (before this post) reach 20 players, enabling 4 Human Civ's to play for. However we hope to make take this further, and 30 is a goal i feel is quite possible, and will enable 6 civs, which in turn will present a far more tangled web of diplomacy and espionage!

I'm sure my fellow players will arrive shortly and agree with me on this... Realpolitik is an excellent concept, well thought-out, and a worthy addition to the types of Civ 4 games people can play. If you play Demogame, why not take a bit of time to check this out and see if you get hooked like we have.

With your help, we can take Realpolitik to greater heights than even I, the game creator expected.

The link to our forum section is in my signature, I hope to see you all Politiking in the near future!

Mods, I believe this qualifies under the "embassy rule" as an exception to the "no advertising" rule. If you disagree, do what you must, but contact me via PM too please. :)

I recommend Realpolitik as a fun and very different alternative to the DG and MTDG formats. It's a multi-team game played on Pitboss, with a 24 hour timer, and it's a representative oligarchy, something we haven't tried here. (except maybe inside the MTDG teams)

The first game was packed with espionage and political intrigue. The site where RP is held (Evolution Games) was kind enough to relax the DL rule to allow direct spying, and a couple of players managed to pull the wool over everyone's eyes and get some actual spy missions accomplished.

This time around we're forgoing the DL method of spying (too many opportunities for hard feelings) and going for a cooperative spying method instead. Get a friend in another civ to exchange info, and you're set... unless your friend is a counter-espionage agent feeding you a line of bull.... :mischief:

If you have room for another game, and in particular a completely different kind of game, come check us out! :D

I don't mean to **** on your parde, however this seems a little to complex. It's a game based on knowing the right people (much like real life) which makes anyone who doesn't know many people in the community weak.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but, I think this should follow the K.I.S.S. rule...

However, I'll register and see how it plays out.

Ice, yes i see you have signed up. The first RP was different, in that almost everything was voted on via a voting bias.. so when it come to the workers next action, all GB members had to vote, and the LEA had 3 votes, INF had 4, SCI had 2, etc etc.

I'll be honest... we lost alot of players early on and i perhaps started the game too early with 28 players, when we had 8 GB positions per Civ, 4 civs so 28/32 positions filled. What i really should have done was to have 40/32 positions filled... so we had Backbenchers (those who don't hold a GB position but will contest for them every election) for competition of places and MOST IMPORTANTLY... in case players dropped out.

In many cases, since the game recruitment was a lot slower that RP2 (it being a new concept from the ground up), a lot of players who signed up, posted once or twice here, and i regarded that as commitment. I think we had 6 players who never even made it to the EVG forums. Unfortunately, a lot of those players who in 2 of the 4 Civs.. Germany and India.

Within a few weeks, we also had more players leave, most of whom thought it wasn't what they expected, so they didn't read the rules etc etc.. again, most of these players were from Germany and India.

We had 14 regular players. 5 from Russia, 5 from Japan, 3 from Germany and 1 from India. 11 of these 14 players are continuing with RP2. So at least we know each Civ will have a couple of players who are regular and highly committed to RP2.

Another mistake was the amount of GB positions. 8 is too much and we (those 11 regulars) believe 4 is a better number. So now when we start, we're going to have at least 5 players per civ. That is, 4 GB players, and 1 (and sometimes 2) Backbenchers. This will allow for competition and backup in case some new players don't see this game being for them.

We've also automated each GB more. Most actions by a GB can be done by themselves, with no discussion or voting. Literally the only things requiring a vote will be city production and war affairs.

Our formula is simple. In your actions as a GB, you must progress the Civ forward in your area as much as possible, whilst not creating too much of a conflict of interest with your fellow players... since they'll be the ones voting or not voting for you come next election (every 15 turns).

So a good formula for a player, is to consistently keep your team in the loop as to what you are doing, both short-term and long-term... and welcome feedback and suggestions. At times, they may all want 1 thing, and you want another... so you must compromise. It's entangled, but it's still fundamentally simple.

My advice, get to know your teammates. See how many posts they've made (we're all new member to the site except for White Elk, who's quite active anyway). That way you'll see how experienced they are most likely to be. But remember, this is just a game of Civ, and we all know how to play it.. so play it to the best of your abilities, and keep an eye on what your teammates think of your actions and strategies.

Wow, what a ramble. Sorry, i tried to keep it simple... hehe!
