Rebels of other Civs targeting me rather than their oppressors

CS are no civilizations, so I'd like to see them without rebell issues. I mean, what's the(ir) point? If there would only be a possibility to end this nuisance, like gifting/selling luxuries.

I have yet to let my amenities go low, so this makes me curious. Can a person who has these "rebels" in their lands be-it their own or others, use a Apostle to take them over like regular barbarian's?

Sounds like free units if you can.

So apostles with heathen conversion promotion should work? Hmm... Besides using them for defensive purposes, you could trade all/enough of your luxuries to someone, wait for rebels to spawn, convert them, then DoW the aforementioned someone to get your luxuries back. Maybe capture some cities too, while you're at it.

I've tried this but it's tricky. If you leave your apostle out in the open the barbs will kill him before you get a chance to move and spread. Lost 2 apostles by being careless and assuming his promotion meant barbs wouldn't kill him. You have to treat him like a slinger and never leave him in range.

I shouldn't be a threat to the rebels though - the whole reason they spawn is due to unhappiness with their ruler, not me.

If Greece is having a hard time governing it's lands and 2 AT crew spawn in rebellion (BTW Greece had not researched the tech for AT crew, and it's entire military at this point consisted of 1 spearman and a battering ram), how does it make sense that they don't attack Greece but saunter into my lands and attack me?

Even rebels don't welcome foreign invaders.

Edit: Nevermind, didn't read correctly. Rebels crossing over to attack your units and inprovements make little sense. This is something that should definitely be addressed by making Rebel units a seperate class of unit from Barbarian units.

Agree with that. Just make them unable to cross into other Civs borders. But if you're at war with the Civ and attacking a city that then spawns rebels - yes they should target you because, as you say, they still wouldn't welcome foreign invaders.

Barbs spawned from camps and rebels should have a "target civ", and barring unusual circumstances (target dying while they don't) should not deviate from the target civ's territory.

It's obnoxious to send barbs to unscouted/unrelated lands, thematically and from a gameplay perspective.

I have now "made a city rebel" to try this. It seems to work if I keep a powerful protective unit in my central city with an Apostle that can convert Barbi's. It worked like magic. As the barbs always seem to come out closest to my most irritated city (I have several in my current game) first I just left the two units there and used the changing ability before they had a chance to do anything.

This of course isn't in with what the whole topic was here so I suppose I should stop writing about it.

Thanks for this thread. I didn't understand what was happening in some games.
