I got the game Christmas, Installed on my laptop, Took a little time to figure out to use disc 2 not 1. Now I start the game pick a country Dutch or English don't remember. Sail into first town.

1st try. Talk to gov. and at end a reboot.

2nd try. talk to gov works ok, go to bar talk to everyone get more crew leave and reboot.

3rd try. talk to gov works ok, go to bar talk to everyone get more crew leave.
upgrade ship. buy goods, try to leave town. Reboot again.

Note each time windows xp restarts I get a message about how it had to restore something and should send/don't send report screen.

You do not give enough information for a proper analysis.

I suggest

- turning all graphics options to maximum
or
- turn them all down

and upgrade your graphics cards drivers.

I'm not computer literate at all so I have no idea how to upgrade your graphics cards drivers, turning all graphics options to maximum. It just doesn't work. every other game worked out of the box. My wife checked my computer before she got me the game and I met all the requirements listed on the package.

I had a similar problem, it would work and go through signing up with someone,
then crash when the game itself started. I fixed it by downloading the latest drivers for my graphics card. It works fine now. :)

You need to identify which graphics card you have. Then search out the site for them. You can get the latest drivers for your card from there.

Simply ask the 12-16 year old son of your neighbour. He can possibly update your drivers and perhaps even solve the issue.

I'm waiting for our 17yr old intern to come back to work after Christmas break.
