Recommend me a good blogging service

Fellow webophiles, please recommend me a good blogging service! I grow tired of my old one which I only update once every two months or so, and need a new one. I do have a few conditions however:

1) It must be free.
2) It must have a high degree of customizability.
3) It must not be blogspot. I do not use it currently, but hate it nonetheless.

If this isn't in the appropriate forum, moderators please move it.

Wordpress.com is a very good, customizable blogging site for free based on the WordPress software. WP.com makes it so that you don't have to download WordPress and upload it to your own server - just sign up at Wordpress.com. It doesn't have any ads either - honestly, it's amazing.

May I please ask why you don't like Blogger/Blogspot? In my experience, it is the best when it comes to customizeability.

Barnes and Noble sells diaries/journals. Those would fulfill all of your requirements

Ive been fairly satisfied with Xanga

The top few in terms of blogging nowadays are Xanga, Blogger, and Livejournal and Myspace to a lesser extent. But the four are all pretty equal in my mind.

I must echo. However, if you're looking for high customizability, do not go to wordpress.com. I do use it, but unlike blogger, you can't customize the HTML/whatever source code it uses. You have to download the actual wordpress software to get at source code I'm pretty sure

Agreed. Both sites are crap in to many ways... They're all too common and worse than blogspot.

I recomend a Yahoo! 360 page. It has a blogging service, as well as skinning, RSS Feeds, Yahoo! local, ect
