alright, i know its an old game, but frankly the simple fact its a war between the Soviets and Americans in an alt his already makes me interested...

anyone else ever try this game? i recently got it and played it as much as i possibly could

Aye, I got it a while back, then lost the damn CD key.

I had a fun time as the Soviets, had some good times. I'm not a fan of RTS, but this is definitely on my list of good games :)

yeah, if I hadnt messed up my Doomsday game with a mod I'd have a Red Alert inspiried AAR

plus I got Yuri's Revenge, he seems a bit overpowered when i've fought him...

I've been playing it for the past month. I just erased it yesterday because i finished all campaigns.
Fun game. :)

Neah, trust me, soon enough he will seem underpowered - especially if you play as the Allies. Things get a bit more tactical if you play as the soviets against Yuri.

The first one was pretty good as well. The missions inside buildings where interesting to solve.

Played it, loved it, played it some more. It was the first game I ever played online as well.

I just LOVED the AEGIS cruisers, sit a few of them at your base and you'll never have to worry about air attack again, when I had them I cannot recall a single time they didn't get promoted to the maximum level

Yuri gets quite weak after a while, the end of it is funny too.

Spoiler the end :
He gets eaten by a dino

I played both sides, but I never played the Yuri addon and still have it (not installed). I am playing some of the stuff again off the Decade DVD.

It is a great game. I really have to play it again. I remember bricking it whenever I heard the words 'Kirov Reporting'. But I soon developed an effective defense, IFVs, lots of IFVs (I think that's the right acronym, it's been a while) with nothing in them

It is undoubtedly a very good game. Have played it a number of times...both sides, liked the Sov one better except for Yuri's dominating commands. Then had the pleasure of getting back at him in Yuri's Revenge. Frankly it was a bit more difficult than RA 2 :).

It's a definatley a fun game.

Though I always got the impression that Yuri was too powerful.

how awesome are the infantry in it?? there's nothing better than getting a squad of 5+ infantry up to max promotion and fortifying them someplace between the enemy base and the ore field.....

I suppose the only thing more awesome than that is finding a group of 5+ infantry up to max promotion and running them down with something tank-like and heavy......

I loved promoting my infantrymen up, and garrisoning them in buildings. I wished that all the infantry (especially the sniper) could go in buildings though.

Who else finds that 2D graphics a la RA2 are prettier than modern 3D graphics? I suppose 3D will eventually look better than 2D as technology progresses but for now I kinda prefer the 2D look.

Ah! The classics! To be honest, RA2 really got me into PC gaming. In fact, it's the first PC game I've ever played.

I got both RA2 and Yuri and I sometimes dust them off and play them just for old times sake. But for some reason Yuri's Revenge takes a really long time to load on my system and the games lags a lot as well. Don't know if this happen to anyone else...

I love the cut scenes. The scenarios are quite well done too.

Spoiler :
(I really enjoy using the Eiffel Tower as a giant Tesla Tower. When I play that mission I don't kill the last enemy unit until I've destroyed all civilian buildings within range of Eiffel Tower.)

And remember, build lots of these:

I, being a C&C fanatic, can safelly say RA2 is a great game. And if some of you Civ3 players want to play even better versions of it, RA2 also has a modding community - check these sites:

Freedom Studios
Project Perfect Mod
C&C Guild

I'm sure you will find some really nice mods - both enhancing the game and Total Conversions.

One of my favorite games ever.

One unique thing I saw was that in addition to scripting mixed groups of units that the AI sends at you, the developers also scripted strats in there like the Tanya-IFV strat that focuses on C4ing your construction yard.

At places it's just fantastic! I usually finished most missions well below the par :). Ending Yuri's Revenge is tougher and costlier in terms of losing units and time :(.
By way somebody mentioned the Eagis Cruisers, they are very good as anti-aircraft weapons but have to be defended as they are defenceless against enemy attacks!
