Do not project your own emotions on me; this thread is quite relaxed anyway, no reason for such antipathies ;) Besides, i merely stated the obvious; those two cities were the most important ones of the Byzantine Empire.

And i have already told you that i have not been there; does it matter? And no city is dependant on any particular region; if anything Thessalonike is a much better example of that, being in the past very important in the ottoman empire, and then surviving as an important city past the balkan wars. Today again it is the main port of the balkans :)

Well, it has to do with population as well. If Greece had 50 million, and Turkey 11, then there would be concern the other way around, particularly with some primitive attitudes about ethnicity still lurking on ;)
However what i wrote infact suggested a country consisting of Greece and Turkey, being called the Byzantine empire (ok, on odd months it could be called the Ottoman ;) )
 
Greece+Turkey would infact be much more powerful then the sum of parts, but only problem is the language.
Only if years years later everyone speaks english what you suggest is possible.
 
There are bilingual countries (eg Canada). The need for social services being bilingual would also secure a large number of new jobs. False and counter-productive (or rather racist) nationalism would be a bigger issue, and also religion for those people who still care for it. In reality there is no real reason why such a country could not exist, although currently there are not so many steps being taken to the direction of limiting ingrained distrust.
There are some steps being taken here, for example the new elementary school books have no refference of the janissaries. I am not sure how things are in turkish elementary school books, but there should be a mutually accepted plan for the future. :)

well, german speaking regions. germany, austria, liechtenstein, most of switzerland, that bit of germany that was given to belgium after WW1 and thats it.

the main problem with returning to the Kaiserreich`s borders are;
1. north schleswig is mainly Danish.
2. Alsace-Lorraine is a fairly even mix of french and german as far as i know, so best the two countries stop bickering over who should have it and leave it as it is. or split it between them :hmm:
3. most of Eastern germany is polish majority, due to the expulsion of the germans from eastern europe and sudetenland 1946.

4. combined with german expulsion and russian immigration when it was incorporated into the USSR, East Prussia [Kaliningrad Oblast] is now mostly russian.
