Hey be happy with your Atina (Athens) which is a pure Greek city. Plus Istanbul is unbelivable dependent on Anatolia and can't be seperated.
You are so in love with Istanbul, have you ever visited the "Queen of the cities" though?

Besides, i merely stated the obvious; those two cities were the most important ones of the Byzantine Empire.And i have already told you that i have not been there; does it matter? And no city is dependant on any particular region; if anything Thessalonike is a much better example of that, being in the past very important in the ottoman empire, and then surviving as an important city past the balkan wars. Today again it is the main port of the balkans
