Hi again.

I started my second regent game last night, the randomizer gave me the Aztecs so I get to be Monty! Jag warriors rule!

I'm about 10-15 turns into the game. I found a barbie village and they gave me a settler (w00tage). So I have two towns pumping out jag warriros. I was crusing around and found the French (note: I always play against the French and other random opponents. I like beating up on the French).

Turns out teh Frenchies only have one city and one warrior guarding it. I tried to trade for techs, no dice. I tried demanding techs...no dice. Should I waste them?

I was think about letting them grow a bit, maybe even build a second city and then try to get the techs again. If that fails, I take over two freebie cities!

Any feedback on this plan? Any suggestions on getting Joanie to trade techs with me. I don't wanna research everything.

Build a few more cities. Not just Jags. Wait till they have 3-4 cities, and then knock them out. It depends though, if you have respawning on.

If its on, then let them live, if its off then kill them. They get free units when the respawn.

I have respawn turned off.

I have plans to build more cities, I think I will wait and take out the frenchies later. Maybe I'll just shadow their settlers, then snatch them up when I declare war. Two free workers are always great.

So how do I weasel the techs out of them? (the frenchies, not the workers)

War w/ them and force a tech pay-off for peace. Make sure you do not eradicate them before you get the techs. Once their gone, so are the techs. I've never had a weaker civ give me anything when I demanded it.

If I do get techs from them as a result of peace negotiations, am I stuck being peaceful for the next 20 turns?

If we haven't encountered other civs yet, does it even matter how I deal with France?

Well, you're not forced to be peaceful for 20 turns. You could just break the treaty. :D

But don't forget, the AI is omniscient. It Knows All. So if you destroy the French before they meet anyone else, 3000 years from now someone will still distrust you because they "remember what you did to the French".

Is it really before they meet anyone? I thought they had to meet at least one other civ and tell them. Then they told two friends, and they told two friends...

Perhaps an ancient scroll is discovered telling of the Aztec's wicked ways.
