so i was thinking the other day and i light came on from across the water ...

the lanun are specialists in water and have all the bonuses and such with them.
the hippus are awesome on horseback ...

the malakim(desert) are great at desert warfare but have absolutely no reason be there.

teh dovellio(tundra) have bonuses for warfare also , but no reason to be here.

so i thought of a "kinda" simple solution. lets add +1 food to desert or tundra tiles for these 2 civs. this shoudl allow for them to at least minimally survive on thier favored terrain.

also, lets add 2 new resourses that can only be seen and used by these 2 civs. i was thinking walrus which is upgraded with a camp and diamonds which are upgraded with mines.

atm pearls are great but thier frequency is too low for what they give. if there were perhaps 3 times as many they would actually end up harvestable . as is more often then not they are in enemy territory. if i remember right you get 3 on a standard size map and it feels insufficient. if there were say 9 pearls, 9 walrus , and 9 diamonds , then these groups woudl have things to use

I think Kael has said that he doesn't want to make other civs become "elves, just on deserts/tundra/hills/etc". That's why they don't do that type of thing. I've not played the Lanun yet, so I can't comment on the pearls thing, though.

I don't see the reason to exclude other civs from getting terrain specific bonuses because "elves love forests". The mechanic is appropriate to the civs, and doesn't (IMO) diminish elves unqiueness in the least. It also makes more of the map functionally usable, which personally is a good idea. Heck, I would go so far with the Lanun as to give them a settler unit that can build a city/settlement on a water tile, aka Waterworld-esque. For that matter, even forts should be makeable in the water for ZOC.

The Lanun aren't merfolk. They're humans. They shouldn't be able to build cities in water. A race of amphibious creatures would be an awesome idea, though. But, the advantage of being able to build on the water is so great, that I don't think it'll be implemented.

Well, that's a problem, because there really isn't much you can do with terrain tiles to make them unique to one civ. Either you'll get lots of :food: (Ljosalfar and Lanun), lots of :hammers: (Khazad), lots of :gold: (No civ yet), unique resources (Lanun), or defense bonuses (Malakim and Doviello).

I'm planning on adding a glass/obsidian resource in deserts for the Malakim to build weapons from (sort of like the Doviello but with a unique resource instead of the standard Copper/Iron/Mithril). I figure it worked for the Aztecs (look up Jaguar Warriors in vanilla), so it should work for the Malakim.

I'm also tempted to add a spice resource for food, but IMO that's borrowing a little too much from good ol' Frank Herbert.

Yes what happened to the merfolk from the original FFH?

Well, those were placeholder civs. Nice pics and ideas, but no special units or mechanics cause they weren't apart of Kael's vision.

Awwww yes the old civs. What is wish is a seperation between clans and the lizardmen. Make clans gobs, orcs, ogres and such then make a reptile race with snake-men lizard-men turtle-men. iIsee a gaint turle like man relacing a shild wall *LOL*

maybe there will finally be a reptilian slave which would make more sense than a human slave when you defeat Acheron
