Reincarnation of The Bull

Forests restrict views , but it does not natter if the tile you stand on is forested, and since the south-east is not forested, you would still see 2 tiles in that direction + You would see one tile down in to the forest (So this is more view than you would see in the SE). (When moving S you see 2 tiles more than moving SE).
For settling I'm for 1E, unless the warrior reveales something very special

it's all agreed that 1S is best

Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0001-1.jpg

Shows a wine and riverside plains, looks like a riverside grass to the S. 1E will pickup the wine too, I think going 1E should do, can workshop the plains and about 2 farms should make a good Bur city.

I agree as well. Plus it appears the area to the SE might be some unusable tiles (desert/mountains). We might as well wedge a city as close as possible to that area.

Looks like 3 votes for 1E. One more and we have a winner. And now we have 4.

What do we want to do about the science slider? Do we drop it to zero and up the espionage slider as soon as espionage is available (and steal all techs)?

Since South is on a hill it will reveal the tiles same tiles that you see when you move SE + A couple of tiles on the west (So moving him south is better)

No, we'll keep research at normal. With a settled spy+Scotland Yard will produce a lot of EPs at first, then SYs in the other cities with spy specs will produce enough utilizing the EP points towards which ever civ we need to steal from.

Something I forgot to say (which I'll update the OP) is civics. Depending on city layouts and weather we have Mids or not is HR/Bur(till Nationalism, the Nat)/??/SP/Theo for +2XP. Protective archers with Totum Pole +3, barracks +3 that's DIII or CG3 archer/lb units.

Warring is we must protect ourselves at all costs. Early rush depends on civs close by, because Bull is going to steal his land back. If we're declared on, protect our cities and that declaration mean we can go in and take cities of theirs.

Since we have a vote I'll start. I think at the beginning we'll go 15-20 turns until things start filling out.

quick question for everyone, something I just noticed when I load the save is with the Lock Modified Assets ON is it disables the BUG options. This is something I wasn't aware of when that option is enabled. So this current save WON'T have BUG. Before we really start, does everyone want the BUG? I haven't played without it since BTS came out.

If we do want it, I'll reroll or just play it out in vanilla BTS.

What is 'lock modified assets'?

I only started playing with BUG when BUFFY came out, before that it was HoF mod. I've been able to open the file so can obviously play it. In theory, BUG only provides us with info that is already available. It is just in a more user friendly format. So I'm happy to continue with this save.

Will locked modified assets stop people from accessing the accessing the save if they have BUG installed as a mod? If so, it might stop lurkers from giving us some useful advice.

As we've stone, we could try and get the Henge for totem poles in all our cities. Do we want to go this path? Will taint the GP gene pool. What are the chances of getting GW, Henge and Mids (in that order) in three different cities to keep the GP pool clean?

That's the problem with stone, we could end up wonder building instead to concentrating on spies.

no it won't stop anyone from viewing the save, it just doesn't allow you to open the worldbuilder and view the map.

it would taint the pool, if there's a :hammers: city that's not getting any :espionage: then Henge & Mids can go there.

True, but The Kremlin requires stone to build. Ok, I'll go ahead with the game. too bad about not having all the extra info. :(:(:(

Not much to say here but we lost our warrior scout early.

Mason due in 5 turns.
Spoiler land :
Civ4ScreenShot0004.jpg

Not much there, rice, stome, silk down by Rangar

A couple of nice gentlemen we’ve met. Always a pleasure being beside aggressive civs. The good news is that Ragnar's favourite civic is HR and we will probably be in HR for a large chunk of the game. So we should be able to keep him sweet. Toku, well he's Toku!! Hopefully, we can make him everyone's no.1 bad guy. We sure aren't going to be best buddies.

Igasho, he shall be mourned. Especially as we have a goodie hut just outside our borders.

The plan of attack:

Builds - continue the worker (11) -> build warrior(s).
Research - Masonry (5) -> Wheel (12) -> BW (part research).

Alternatively, do we swap to a warrior (6 turns if the forested hill is worked) in the hope that we can get to the goodie hut before Toku?

Lurker Comment: Ah, the Toku next door! If he's close, maybe you can harass him to death and steal all of his workers!

Land looks a bit harsh. Hopefully you'll find some more fertile realms.

I hate Toku, depending on how close he is we can finish him early

Could do that, in hindsight I should have grown the city while building the wb. We do need some defense though, having a warrior>worker we'll be still good. Let's hear from the others before going forth.

I'll not be able to play untill thursday due to me going to England (London)
(Since I'm number four on the list it won't be my turn until than anyway)

About the set: I think we could get there before anyone else (unless ragnar shows up with his scout there).
The gains from the hut are in my opinion more important than having a worker 6 turns earlier (since we are gonna build that warrior anyway). A tech is better than the worker, the gold too, and a warrior/scout always come in handy. Even exp could make a woodman 2 scouting warrior who will survive some time.
So I vote to swap the worker with a warrior

Sounds like I'll be having a fairly straightforward set. A lot of hitting enter until we build a unit. I'm for swapping to a warrior as well to do some more exploring (and give me something to do ).

I'll wait for thoughts / comments from all the team before playing and reporting Sunday evening (approx 48 to 54 hrs).

Turn 20, 3500BC (IHT)

As discussed, switch Cahokia’s build from worker to warrior (6) and crabs to forested hill. The micro in this turn set is going to be a killer !

Turn 21-25, 3475BC-3375BC

Buddhism founded in a distant land on turn 21. That seems quite late so probably don’t have any civs that start with mysticism.

Toku’s archer heads to the forest tundra 2N2E of Cahokia so we should hopefully get the goodie hut.

Turn 26, 3350BC

We research:

ROTB-3350BCMasonry.jpg

And bronze working (20) is selected.

We now have a warrior and he is heading for the goodie hut.

Turn 28, 3300BC

We get to the hut 1 turn before Ragnar’s scout and are rewarded with:

ROTB-3300BCMysticism.jpg

Hooray. Much better than hostile barbs .

Turn 29, 3275BC

Hinduism founded in a distant land. Looks unlikely that there are going to be any religious zealots in this game.

Warrior attacks weakened lion at 99% and wins without a scratch. Igasho death has been avenged.

Turn 30, 3250BC

Ragnar converts to Hinduism. Hopefully he’ll spread it to us so that we can keep him sweet until we’re ready to rape and pillage his lands.

Turn 31-35. 3225BC-3125BC

Warrior heading towards Ragnar’s border to do some exploring.

Turn 36, 3100BC

Cahokia worker -> warrior

Turn 37-39, 3075BC-3025BC

Zzzzzzzzz. Warrior stops next to a lion that was in a shaded tile. I hold me breath and:

Spoiler :
Our warrior successfully defends himself and earns a promo. I select combat and he will heal in 3 turns.

Turn 40-45, 3000BC- 2875BC - Zzzzzzzzzzz

Turn 46, 2850BC

We research:

ROTB-2850BCBW.jpg

And I realise I made a :smoke: move . I should have researched wheel before BW :wallbash: . Now we must surely have to put at least one chop in to GW to get it. I have not revolted to slavery. The wheel (10) is selected as the next tech.

The question is do we have bronze. Unfortunately not but there are two sources close by:

ROTB-2850BCMap.jpg

The next warrior out of Cahokia can scout the bronze to the east for any suitable city locations. The bronze to the south is an ok site with silk and either cows or rice. Not a lot of hammers.

And the save

good set, just a lot of hitting enter. I think keeping the Native American names keeping with the theme;)

Great hit on the hut, Myst will help a lot. One less tech to research. :smoke: on The Wheel, it happens. Will have to put a chop in GW.

getting out 2 more warriors then start GW, explore to the East. hopefully find Toku there
