The Mac version of Civilization III is available for pre-order at EbWorld's website since yesterday. The price is $54.99, compared to $49.99 for the PC version. EbWorld expects to have the game in stock by February 5, 2002. That's nearly 4 months of waiting for MAC users! This is not unusual since it takes time to port the game.

It's worth noting that the February 2002 release date is only tentative. Infogrames and MacSoft have not confirmed this release date.

!#(*$&^(*$%!&#$%@#%!@^#%(!$@*!^#&*!^@*%!!!!!! February???? I thought that Westlake was release it almost simultaneously with the PC edition! Of course, if the PC edition comes out near Christmas, as some are speculating (tribe of the weeek) then it won't be so bad.

I don't know MAC users are offended by "MAC".

It's a learning experience for me and I'll use Mac instead of MAC from now on.

As I said in the news, this release date is not confirmed. But I don't think it's a big deal even if they release it in February. Mac users usually get any game many months later than PC users anyway. Just be patient.

I wonder what the minimum Mac system requirements will be for Civ3 - G3 processor minimum I guess... time to upgrade my trusty 7100/80, which must've logged more Civ2 hours than I care to calculate... so that's $54.99 for Civ3, plus £1,200 for a G4 466... better start saving.

I just found the following post in the Mac Strategic Games newgroup. It also indicates that an Early 2002 release date for Mac Civ3 is most likely:

If Firaxis is looking at a fall 2001 release, and Macsoft is porting it, do you think it's safe to say that we'll see Civ 3 on the Mac in early 2002?

Is anyone else excited?
-----------------

We at Westlake are doing the port for MacSoft. Provided the PC release is on time, I'd guess the Mac release will be sometime in early 2002. Naturally there are no guarantees...anything can happen at this point.

I object to the wait on principles, but don't really mind it. I remember when nothing was being made for Mac, and I waited a year for Sim Isle (it was absolutely not worth the wait).

Yeah, I agree. Compared to other games, a couple monthes is really very good. SimCity 3000 was about 7 monthes in coming

And we'll have some of the bugs figured out by then.
