Release Dates

A simple question which I'm sure you people could answer, but Google can't. Why are games in the USA generally released on Tuesdays, but in the EU are released on Fridays?

My friend is bending my ear about it, saying it's really unfair. It's not a big deal to me, but I would still like to know.

The answer has to do with the direction of the Earth's rotation. You see, Europeans are able to wake up and go to bed several hours before those of us in the Americas. Recognizing that this is unfair, video game companies attempt to even out the situation by releasing games in the US a few days before they come out in the EU.

Well, that's my theory, anyway. Another possibility is that it's related to marketing or shipping, but I don't really know.
