To be completely honest adding graphics to each would add very little compared to the workload. If that amount of hours are to be put into RaR, then I would prefer it to be something, which turns up a bit more often. Playing 10 times is unlikely to trigger all events meaning each event picture would appear quite rarely.

It's quite cool with all the new events btw. It gives even more to stockpile money for. It's just a pity the king can take your money if you stockpile.

I generally agree.
But for some people creating such images is simply fun.

Most modders usually don't work on topics where others believe that efforts are most valuable.
They will usually work in a motivated way on topics which are fun to them.

So if we find somebody who would have fun to create such images it would be great.
Otherwise they will most likely simply never be created.

Playing 10 times is unlikely to trigger all events meaning each event picture would appear quite rarely.

True, if you are really lucky, you will get maybe 50% of the existing events in a single (long running) game.

It's quite cool with all the new events btw.

They are a really nice way to bring some diversion and atmosphere to the game. :)

I always hoped that we would one day find somebody (else) who would focus a bit on these Python/XML-Events, because they are really simple to create.
But I realized at some point that this would probably not happen. So I will continue to create those events until I am fedup.

It's just a pity the king can take your money if you stockpile.

I disagree, I even think that is an interesting mechanism.
It is a bit like gambling.

It is risky to stockpile huge amounts of gold, true.
But no risk, no fun. :)

By the way:

It would surely be cool to have such images for each event but this would be an incredible amount of work. :dunno:

It will be a LOT OF WORK! ...and I will certainly not do this work! ;)

I think we do not need different pictures for 120 events ore more...please note:

- we should not overstress the size of the mod - it is already very big!
- the pictures must have a very good quality - pictures with good quality need a lof of time, experience and proper graphic programs
- in the past there have been only a few further experienced graphic modders who supported the development of RaR - they all have retired by now.
- Nightinggale is correct: It would be only little benefit for a lot of work. I don't know another modder who would be willing to do this work - you?

I don't know another modder who would be willing to do this work - you?

No, currently not.
But maybe one day we will find somebody who is. :)

As I said, I am completely aware of the amount of work for 120 such images.
And I also agree that there are much more important topics.

I just wanted to tell:

1. It is possible to give those events images (similar to the images for Achievments)
2. I believe it would be cool to have such images

This task would probably only be taken by somebody -which we currently do not have but may find by a luck incident- who really enjoys to create 2D images / art a lot.

And the next Python/XML-Event. :)

What would Release 2.1 contain? Events?

This is currently in work or has already been done:

  • French Translations from Marla_Singer
  • Further Graphical improvments from Schmiddie
  • Python/XML Events

Otherwise I simply don't know yet. :dunno:

We will see. :)

We are so few people working on this mod, that there is no need for any real planning.
(Even my own plans change every few days depending on time and motivation.)

My original plan for Release 2.1 was this.
But as I said, we will see.

How many more are you aiming for ?

I still have a really long list of further possible events.

Maybe I will create 20 more, maybe 30 more, maybe only 5.
I will simply continue until I am fed up. :dunno:

And the next event commited to SVN. :)

By the way:

I will stop posting about new events now.
(I will continue to create them though.)

1. I do not want to spoiler all the tension to find out in game.
2. I am so short on attachment quota that I always need to delete old images to upload new ones.
3. Considering the amount of events I currently create, I guess it gets kind of boring anyways.

I will post though, once I am done.
(Telling the amount of new events created and new total amount of events.)

@team and partners:
Please check SVN regularly for new revisions in the next days.
(There should be several new revisions each day. But updating your repository once a day is completely enough of course.)

Would the Fort events work even if inside borders ?

Yes they would.
(However I personally build forts outside of my own territory, since that makes best use of their features.)

I build them only on chokepoints where they'd allow my ships to enter cities for ease of transportation.

I am currently testing and fixing all the existing events before I continue creating new ones.
(Because I noticed that some RaR events from old releases and some old TAC events were broken.)

This is quite a lot of work actually.
(Since we have more than 100 events currently.)

I am kind of disappointed a bit because those broken events had simply been left broken. :(

The image I have attached is an example of one of the events I have now repaired.
(There was a tiny error in the python function.)

I am now done checking / repairing / improving old events.
Now all events contained in the mod should work.

This was really a lot of fun.
Spoiler :

:sarcasm: :badcomp:

Now I will re-start working on new events. :)

I've worked like a freak to finish off the French translation. It has become a personnal obsession. :D

Just so that you know, I've calculated there were 65% more <TEXT> tags in R&R than in the vanilla version (from memory 7,500 occurences compared to 4,500).

To be sure the "Abbey" thing would be rightfully handled by game texts, I've created new strategy and pedia labels (first for abbey, and then for chapel and cathedral of the Archibishop as I realized they were also missing). Those have been added in _RaR_Release2.xml between comments line specifying "Marla Singer" so that you could find them easily. I've also added translations for the description of the 4 "RAR Americas" maps.

Those new text tags are all in English and French. Despite my efforts in German, I thought it would be wiser to let Schmiddie or Ray would handle it. Of course, I've also updated the buildingsInfos.xml file so that they would be taken into account.

During the task, I've noticed some little mistakes in the English text that I've of course corrected. It was mostly minor grammar or standardizing the usage of tabs, [PARAGRAPH:#] or [NEWLINE] in the pedia entries (taking vanilla format as the rule).

Regarding translation in French, here's the current situation :
  • _Achievements.xml : 3056 lines - Partially translated
  • _Colonization.xml : 4240 lines - 100% translated
  • _Colonization_Diplomacy.xml : 2947 lines - Partially translated
  • _Colonization_Events.xml : 3308 lines - 100% translated before Ray's new additions
  • _Colonization_Objects.xml : 15477 lines - 100% translated
  • _Colonization_Pedia.xml : 2291 lines - 100% translated
  • _Colonization_Strategy.xml : 1640 lines - Partially translated
  • _Credits_Readme.xml : 1289 lines - 100% translated
  • _ImpTerFeaPedia.xml : 406 lines - 100% translated
  • _RaR_Founding_Fathers.xml : 1320 lines - Partially translated
  • _RaR_New_Nations.xml : 3724 lines - 100% translated
  • _RaR_New_Ressources.xml : 6201 lines - 100% translated
  • _RaR_Release1.xml : 4843 lines - 100% translated
  • _RaR_Release2.xml : 240 lines - 100% translated
  • _TAC.xml : 3189 lines - 100% translated
  • _Objects_Original.xml : 4188 lines - 100% translated
  • _Original.xml : 17346 lines - 100% translated

I am now done checking / repairing / improving old events.
Now all events contained in the mod should work.
If you have modified the <TEXT> for some old events in a meaningful way (changing the sense of them), I would be glad to know in order to correct them the same way in French.
