Remove your forces or declare war

How come sometimes I can ask the AI five turns straight to leave my area, and they still won't leave. What makes it so I can tell them to leave or declare war.

BTW I hate complaining about "cheating" but it always seems that after no more than 2 turns in my rivals territory I must leave or declare war.

It seems you can't force out non-military units. When I military unit crosses your border, then you get that option. Or so it seems to me.

This is another load of Civ 3 nonsense.

It is so boring when military units enter my teritory and I have to repeat demands they leave.

It is worse when settlers come in usually in settler/foot solder combos. The AI is so dumb they even march in when I am at war with them!! :crazyeye:

The settler comes in; I tell it to leave; "Sure"; it keeps coming; I tell it to get out again; "Sure"; it keeps coming; "Get out or declare war"; "sure". They then magically teleport themselves to the other side of my civ and set up a town on tiles they should not
even know exist!!

It is such a crock.

When are you going to fix this Firaxis??

This little pesky thing is there to irritate the human player, so or you tolerate the a.i. or declare war by yourself using the diplomatic advisor screen. Sometime it is much better to tolerate the a.i. in first age and then later on raze their worthless cities.

I fully agree with Zouave on this one - it is the single most annoying thing in the game (at least for me).

Blocking with units is ok if you have spare units around and you can find a suitable point to block at otherwise they just go around.

This needs fixing pronto - three times you ask them to leave - and still they ignore you ! Ridiculous!

I agree that this is one of the things that really need fixing. I think the best fix would be to always have two choises when enemy units are in your territory:

1) Kindly ask them to leave, or
2) Tell them to leave or declare war

If you do the second, they will have to leave (or declare war), but they will get annoyed faster. A unit that has to leave should always have to go back to the square it came from. There would therefore not be possible to cross even a one-square cultural territory if you was determined to stop the AI.

I do agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AI should be more careful about violation of territory borders as there is a high risk that this leads to war (and often they lose this war)

I found the rules for the AI are more relaxed than for humans - sometimes, the AI can move a stack into my territory that has contact to a city of mine and I can't throw them out. IF I move troops next to an AI city, I get asked to leave or else very time..... :(

For once, I agree with Zouave, the Great Harbringer of CIV3 criticism, Unholy Knight of Sacarstical Comment :)

And, Nice One, that would work fine if only the settler would'nt come back next turn and do the exact same thing ! (like it does right now)

I think, to complete your - excellent ;) - idea, we should add a rule : when asked to leave or declare war, if the AI leaves, it cannot enter your territory for, say, 20 turns. Or 5 or 15 or whatever, it just can not enter your territory for a while.

No ?

You need to be able to select a location within 8 squares of the offending unit (like the air mission or bombard grid) and a 'goto' path is drawn up. This path MUST be followed by the AI unit. No two ways about it, the deportation route must be the expelling player's choice.

Just declare war if you don't like it. What's the big deal?

(There is no reputation hit as long as you cancel the peace treaty in the diplomacy screen first. War is an honorable activity. )

Zach, if you're ijn a 20-turn period of some kind, like a lux deal or you still have to pay, what then??????????

Good point killer, there's nothing you can do about it then.

You can only tell them to leave or declare war if a) they have military units adjacent to one of your towns or b) they have significant military in your borders (not just one)

At least until all the lands have been settled. (Admittedly, this is not always possible.)

Zach, sa always, you are right, but this in NOT what was promised - and why I bought the game :( (I sound like Zouave now)

yeah, he also said in that speech not to form political parties, if they'd only listened to him....

When any unit is requested to leave, they must magically teleport to the EXACT tile they entered your territory from.

This should be relatively simple to program. You need to add just one property to the unit class to store the grid location whenever the unit enters enemy territory. When they leave, place them in that grid.

I am only a novice programmer, but even I could see how easy this would be to implement.

I was not aware of that. There is no reputation hit at all?
