Removing Airstrip

Is there any way to remove an airstrip on my own territory, I tried to pillage it, but that ownly removed the roads.

I orginally placed the airstrip on an unintended tile, there was a message to the effect that this inprovement will override the current improvement to the terrain. I was afraid I just destroyed my irrigation on that tile.

I irrigated over top of the tile and the food value increased by one, but the airstrip was still there. Maybe there is no loss, only one overlay can be shown.

I was just wondering if it could be removed.

I was no able to remove it with any worker actions. I think I even tried bombing it, but no dice.


Edit: I tested this and you can get rid of them with arties or bombers. I had to destroy the rails and roads and then the airfield.

Did you try pillaging twice? I haven't tried it, but remember that you have to pillage a railroaded tile twice; first you remove the railroad, then the road and mine/irrigation. This could work the same way.

You can destroy them by bombing with bombers or artillery, or you can replace them with outposts or radar towers..
There is really no reason to get rid of them thou, since you can irrigate, mine or plant forests on same tile.

well you could be losing ground and require to disband the location, so there is a reason sometimes.

I'm sure you need to pillage twice (or three times if you have rail). The first time removes the mines/irragation and road(or rail), the second time removes the airstrip/fortress etc (you need to pillage a third time if you had rail on the square as the 2nd pillage would remove the road)

You can replace it with a radar tower.

You cant pillage them with units.. you need to use atrillery or bombers.

You are right, the pillage button goes away after the roads are gone, pillaging is not an option.
