Report Your Weight Loss Here

I think it depends on how much time and effort you put into it, Dralix...

I have the unhealthiest diet plan ever that I used in college. I lost 50 pounds, but would not recommend it, although I will say it requires no effort whatsoever.

Wake up, take 2 Stacker 2 pills. Eat a couple bowls of cereal, a couple egg mcmuffins, or whatever you want as part of a decent sized breakfast. Skip lunch - I went a good 5 months straight not eating lunch. Eat whatever you want for dinner, but a small amount of it - a 6 oz fillet, 2 small slices of pizza, a couple pork chops, or whatever. Drink LOTS of water throughout the day, at least a gallon (or 4 litres). If you're going out drinking, nix dinner and you'll be drunk after 4 beers at the most.

I know what you're all thinking, and you're right - that's no way to live! But I got down to 170 from a little over 220, and am now around 185, which still isn't bad for 6 ft, but my utter lack of muscle means I still look a bit chubby. I was back up around 195 recently, but brought it down much more sensibly - smaller meals, and I started jogging. Last week, I started playing basketball again for the first time in about 6 years, and sticking with it for the rest of the summer should see me at a much healthier and fitter 170. The soreness was pretty bad after the first day, but I'm already in better shape after only 3 trips to the court, and will hopefully keep getting better as time goes on. Other than swimming, basketball may be the best exercise for losing weight - you work out pretty much every muscle in your body, and it's very rigorous for your heart and lungs. Plus, it's infinitely more fun that running. I'm also taking up golf so I can get motivated into at least some physical activity on the weekends.

Well then you're probably not doing it right Dralix :p

If you consider the willingness to participate fully as part of an exercise regiment it has to be worth something :groucho:

Verry funny, both you and the Sultan. I should have expected as much. As I said before, I am not suggesting people not do it. But don't rely on that as your exercise program.

From MSNBC's Calorie Counter Calculator

*** NOTE*** These calculations were made based on a 150 lb. (68.2 kg) person. The number of calories for each activity will vary according to individual weight and level of activity.

Activities Number of minutes Calories burned

Aerobics 60 429
House cleaning 60 179
Office work 60 107
Sex (moderate) 60 93
Sex (vigorous) 60 107
Sleeping 60 64
Stairmaster 60 429
Stationary Bike 60 429
Talking on the phone 60 71

Now of course all this depends on the intensity, but this shows that sex is comparable to office work, and only slightly better than talking on the phone. It is not even close to your favourite traditional cardio exercise.

EDIT: spelling

Yeah, that is the point. Its torture to do my 'favourite' cardio exercise for 20 minutes, but sex... for some reason there is much more willingness to commit more hours of the day to such a noble cause.

I'd rather have sex for two hours a day than do 30 minutes of cardio.

:)

-And metalhead, basketball is indeed the best exercise for losing weight all over. It's how Marky Mark stays fit, playing basketball for two hours a day. Two hours of any other exercise can leave you very very sore...

Well, if you've lost some weight you can have some of mine...

Sorry, there wasn't nearly as much smack as I expected.

I should get back into exercise. Switched jobs about 9 months ago and fell off the wagon.

I probably need it for my heart as much as overall weight control.

Hard to stay on a good died(diet - Freudian slip) with small kids. They get most of our attention. Meals are typically whatever is easy.

Only you would measure in stones ;)
If by "you" you mean British people in general, why yes of course we do. Even many young people still do, eschewing the metric system.

Brits have used the stone as the main unit of weight of humans and animals for over 600 years. Perhaps your own ancestors did. It has served us well over that time and there is no need to change right now.

How many pounds in a stone then? I have a feeling I'll feel a lot lighter when I measure my weight in stones. And perhaps taller if I start measuring my height in cubits...

On topic: hovering at 227 after running, it would drop faster but I'm off the wagon again and every alcohol binge has to end with cheese...

Well, a new gym opened up down the street from where I work and the gym sent out flyers offering cheap memberships to employees of surrounding businesses.

I gained about 25 pounds when I lived in the UK and have been back in the USA for about 7 months now and am finding nearly impossible to lose weight. So , I finally joined the gym and have been going a few times a week so I'm hoping that will give me the boost that I need.

14 pounds = 1 stone

All body weights in the UK are normally quoted in stones and pounds unless you're a scientist when kilogrammes are used.

10 stone = 140 pounds
15 stone = 210 pounds
20 stone = 280 pounds

There are 14 pounds in a stone. (The collective plural is also usually stone btw, not stones.)

So if you are 227 pounds that would make you 16 stone 3 pounds (16 st 3 lbs).

How did the answers to my question in this thread about stones come before my question? CFC is acting wierd today...

Check Site Feedback. Me and several others have posted threads inquiring about this. I think that for some reason it thinks that yesterday was the 17th, as well as today, so the posts you make now appear previous to those yesterday.

I really would have liked to have been able to post more here in the past month but the fact is I weigh more than I did when I started the thread. My vacation home to see my family really exacerbated the problem - lots of huge meals out at restaurants, few chances to exercise, and I go totally lazy.

Well, today, after a 50 minute run I was 231 lbs. and my plan is to eat "raw foods" only for the next three days to kind of clean out my system...

How are you guys doing?

This weekend I ran-walked around Greenlake (3.1 miles/5K) twice. This is a big step for me because I'm still very anemic from a medical mishap I had on 25-May. I can run for about 3 minutes before I get spots in front of my eyes and I start feeling nauseus... Then I walk for a minute... Then I run again. Takes me about 40 minutes to limp once 'round the lake.

Hopefully by the end of July I'll be able to run the whole 3.1 miles miles again w/out stopping, then I'll work my way back up to 9.3 miles.

Keep it up Sultan! For me running is one of the most satisfying ways to meditate on life. And almost all of the consistantly hardbodied celebs I read about mention that running is part of their daily routines.

Here's my favorite pre and post run stretch --

Lie down on your back and extend your arms to either side like you are the freakin' Messiah.

Then kick your right leg over your left leg, slowly stretching your right foot to meet your left hand. Don't stretch into the "pain zone." Work towards being able to do it over many days or weeks if needed. At maximum PAIN-FREE extension, hold for 30 seconds.

Reverse, kicking your left leg over your right leg, to touch your left foot to your right hand.

Repeat if desired.

Here's a lame JPEG I drew. Looks like he's dancing... But he's lying down.

I was quite fat when I was like 14 or so, 82kg and at a height of 175cm... Then I went on a diet and now I'm only 75kg at a height of 180cm. According to the army my ideal weight is 69kg, so I guess I'm not too fat but I'm still trying to lose weight, or atleast not gain any. I usually lose weight when there's no school and I don't work, then I go to bad very late and wake up very late, but I don't eat any meals after dinner so I infact skip breakfast and sometimes even lunch. Not very healthy but I rarely do healthy things. ;)
