I have had this idea for a while now. I'd like to play on a huge true starting map with all civilizations so that technological advancements of certain civs (the Europeans, American colonies etc.) would be taken into action.

I was wondering if it is possible to create a mod where each civ can be assigned a certain starting era. I have no idea if this is possible so I'd like to hear it from the experts in this community.

In more details I'd love to see an extra menu in the advanced starting settings where you would have an option for each civ and which era they start. Lets say I choose the Cree and put them in ancient era. Then they start with normal bonuses. Then I select England and choose reneissance era, where they start with all medieval tech and a couple free settlers.

Would this be possible with the current modding tools?

Ah, I loved that mod in civ V!

What I however meant was that I would like that some civs started with medieval technologies already unlocked at the same time others spawn with only ancient technologies. This is so, that the Native Americans would still be in late ancient era when the European colonists arrive.

I checked the really advanced starting options mod, that should work with enough work.

I see, well "asymmetrical starts" is one of the long term goal of my scenario generator, but no ETA on that.

Thanks Gedemon! It's nice to hear that a producer of quality mods has this as some goal. Out of interest, what are your major tasks at the moment?

Fixing YnAMP, because lately, with each patch, Firaxis find a new creative and unexpected way to broke it :D

And my main project of course.

I hope they fix the biggest map types someday :mischief:. I read through that project, seems very promising, god luck!

Interesting, i was thinking the same thing when i was using worldbuilder. i noticed that when on advanced mode, you can (individually for each civ) check a box for what era the civ has reached. Tried playing the map but unfortunately crashed, though it might be worthwhile to try again.
Other than that, i don’t see why it would be a problem if simply put the world were to be in the Renaissance while a few isolated civs lag behind on tech (could be a mechanic for faster research if neighbors are ahead, thus leaving far away civs behind though it might already be implemented by the devs).
