I've been crafting maps for BTS I'd like to transfer to HR. I'm holding out for 1.20 as they've got a place for Brazil :)

It would be really helpful if we could have a couple of stickies added to the forum; one with a list of each Civ's starting cities (including variants by leader), and one with a guide of how to edit a BTS Worldbuilder file so that HR can load it as a scenario (if this is possible).

The starting cities point is kinda important, as I put a lot of effort into making fun but balanced starting locations for everybody. With lots more starting cities, that's a lot more potential starting locations to balance up! And enabling transfer of scenarios from BTS to HR, we can tinker with resources and Savannas and get a bunch of scenarios available very quickly :goodjob:

A starting city list is easy enough to put together. Remind me once 1.20 is out, but in the meantime, you can look at the file /History Rewritten/Assets/XML/Civilizations/CIV4CityInfos.xml to get an indication of which leader starts with which city.

Making worldbuilder files HR compatible is a bit trickier. If they're blank maps that you're importing then they can probably be fixed with a series of Find/Replace operations. However, if the map contains placed cities and borders and the likes it gets a lot trickier.

I make a 'master' map with no settlements and use that to make scenarios, so that shouldn't be a problem.

What are you using to make/edit the map? Worldbuilder or another tool?

Mostly worldbuilder, with occasional 'under the bonnet' tinkering in the text file itself. Find-and-replace instructions aren't usually a problem.

By the way: is there any chance of a 'lite' installation option without Blue Marble? We prefer the simpler basic terrain graphics, and most of us have low spec hardware & prefer to keep things simple.

What happens when you try to load one of your master maps into worldbuilder in HR? Any error messages?

Not really, sorry. Maintaining two versions is a lot of extra work for little gain; Blue Marble terrain uses up a little bit of memory, but a miniscule amount compared to all the unit and building art in HR. It's not too difficult to remove manually though, just a bunch of files and folders that need to be deleted. No XML editing needed. Remind me once 1.20 is done and I'll post some instructions.

Haven't tried loading maps, yet. Like I say, I'm postponing HR on this temp laptop until 1.20, it's got loads of performance issues and I'm avoiding too many big install/delete/reinstall cycles.

Ah yes. I guess wait and see how it goes when you eventually try. If there are issues, you can send me a copy of the file. I'll see what needs fixing and note down the process for you for future reference.

1.20 is out. Reminding.

The freecycle laptop with which I replaced my deaded iMac died. I'm down to a G4 iBook that can't even run Civ3 -.-

But even though I've no way of making a map, it'd still be nice to see a list of cities, at least :)

Sorry to hear about your computer troubles. I've started making a civilizations reference chart which indicates capital city for each leader, it won't be ready till I finalize 1.21's leader and trait changes but I'll probably post it earlier than 1.21 itself.
