Resources.pcx

Quick summary of using this file.

Im not gonna explain how to use it. Just be aware....

1: Adding luxury resources will screw up your city display if you get all 9+. Also be aware that a 9th luxury does nothing for happiness.

2: You can add as many resources as you like to the game and even place them in the editor HOWEVER in the game you will only be able to see 2 additional resources, the first 2 you added. The others are still there but invisible. You will see the bonuses on terrain when you right click and view the terrain info but the graphics will not be there.

As a result be very carefull and make sure you know what your doing before adding more then 2 resources. Remember the AI will likely be able to tell much easier that a resource which is not displayed is there.

Also be carefull in your balence. Its very easy to make a resource way to powerfull. I added a potleaf to the game, called it hemp, and gave it a 3 production to it. It turned into a game of dune, he who controls the spice, controls arakis (sp?!?).

Adding extra Luxury resources definitely stands a good chance of crashing the game - and well before you get all nine - I had to switch coffee to a bonus resource in my current game as the game crashed as soon as I tried to establish an embassy with the Iroquois -who started with it or a built a road to it in my empire (2nd lux). Might have something to do with what slot you put it in and what icon you give it. Strategic resources seem easier to add but can still cause crashes. Bonus resource addition seem pretty benign wrt crashes - and you can see them all as long as you reuse one of the first 21 icons, e.g. grapes in hills are that luxury resource, grapes in forests are fruit. They look the same but are correctly identified if you click on the tile and have the correct bonuses assigned. You can have overlsapping terrain, I just find it easier to identify if I don't.

You can actually have up to 24 icons. After that they're invisible on the map. But you can double or even triple the use of those icons. And I've been informed that you can have more than 8 strategic resources, though they won't be seen in the city view. One poster at Apolyton mentioned he had 12 strategic resources in his game with no problems. As for crashes, I believe there's the occasional conflict because the game tries to put 2 resources on the same square. I'm not certain about that, but I did resolve my conflict by turning Gold to a luxury, after I added Sheep to my Hills.

Anyone found out yet how to add resources with new resouceimages, not just replacing the existing ones ?

I see no reason to replace any of the existing resources with new ones, as I believe them to be very realistic, but I would like to add a couple of new ones, silver, bronze and marine oil for example. I've made them bonus resources, so there sould be no problem with gaining to many luxury-/startegic resources.

this works out fine (made the resources, edited civilopedia and all), but when I try starting a scenario with the new resorces it crashes. This doesn't happen if I just use the existing resouceimages (nr. 1-24 from the original v1.16f) to display them, so the problem must be with the graphics. The program can't handle more then 24 resourceimages..?

When I try generating a map in the editor it works fine.
All the resources appear like the should, even the ones with new graphics.

So, Is there a way to use more resourceimages ?

You could always try doubling up on the existing icons. As far as I can see, that's the only way to add more.
