That maybe so, but I think that the point Dell was trying to make was, would you be more inclined to change your opinion after listening to a person eloquently put the point across, even if they don't believe what they are saying, or after someone passionately rants at you?

That was pretty much the point although a teacher is meant to be objective so they may not reward rants with high marks whereas an arguement that covers all the key points may be more effective at least in that environment. This does raise the point that there are situations where a passionate rant would be more appropriate since perhaps time is limited whereas a more thoughtful approach will win a different arguement.
