Do take a glance at your starting position when you start a new game, and restart if it's crap, or do you think "this is what mother Earth gave to me, I'll make the best of it"?

Hehe, I see now that my p-word was censored... Well, I guess you figure out what I meant :)

Moderator Action: Please don't do that again. We have rules here against profanity and vulgarities.

I've also edited your two posts together. In the future, please use the 'edit' button, on the lower right hand corner of your post. - Turner

Sorry, Turner, I'll think before I speak the next time. As I don't have English as my first language, I don't always react to what you call profanities, the way you do. I guess this was filed as a vulgarity, though.

Fairly often, I move my settler and worker around a bit, and take a sneak peek at my surrounding territory, to see if settling on my starting square would be a gigantic mistake. Otherwise, once I get deep into the game, I'll spend 5900 years thinking "God DAMMIT, why didn't I move my first city to THAT square instead????"

I almost always take the world the randomizer gives me, however. A bad start can be turned around quickly with some exploring and a couple extra settler pumps.

The only time I use auto save is when:
Writing stories
and Moving my troops

I never move my settler and I almost never restart hoping for a better spot

I occassionally restart if I'm surrounded by tundra, desert, mountains, jungles, ect. But I'm not massively restarting for bonus resources.

I have recently moved up to Deity, and for a few starts I tried a few times to get a dicent starting position. Now I am a little more confident, but I still have made a rule to allow myself to restart if I do not have freah water. It has not come up yet though.

This is how I do it too ;) . On higher difficulties a bad start is usually disaster
:( ;but it depends whether you are playing to get better or just for fun too!
:D  :crazyeye:

I restart. It depends on difficulty, I already have a very hard time on Demigod, without a decent starting position it is too hard for me.

I never restart. I always instantly hit 'b' and get on with business.

Same here, I very rarely restart unless I'm in the worst possible starting location

You would restart?

If it was that bad, share it with us first! ;)

I don't restart (unless it is a truly horrific, yet not impossible start) because all the good starts have no iron, saltpeter, Oil, etc...

It all balances out.

I haven't restarted in awhile, even when I came up Spain on an island.

so i will restart if i start around marshes and such but of course not when i m going to be mister perfect citylocation i own A.I. lands etc. you know

Never restart. Even if I wound up starting from a small island, I will continue, just for the fun of it. I don't micromanage (too much) either, so as long as I'm doing it just for fun why should I worry too much about starting locations?

I only retart untill I can get my own Island. No mater how small. I will only fight to claim my continent if I'm a militaristic Civ With an Ancient UU Like Rome Or Persia.

If i go for a deity/sid game, i will only start if i have the following things:

-river
-food bonus
-little or no useless squares (mountain, desert, jungle) within the near neighbourhood (to be decided after a little initial scouting)

I never restart. Only because I am afraid the next start position will be worse than the last :D

I almost never restart. I even played completely surrounded by jungle as the Iroquois. Of course I had to get the diplomatic victory by being nice.

I did restart one time because I was on a small island with mostly tundra.

I think I have only restarted maybe 3 times in my life and it's usually because my capital starts off in the middle of the jungle, I never move my settler I just hit "B"

I do this sometimes. If it's on an easy difficulty for me I play it out. If not, I move the settler around for a few turns and see if it's better, if not restart. Bad is like all jungle, mountains, tundra, or desert.
