Return to 2 Civs ...

I have just looked at my startup positions again and can confirm I can diplo with both Chas' civs.

I only possess my starting techs plus the 'shared' team tech.

I also checked my visable map ... although I have a few seafood I cannot see any strategic resources so Mitch's visable map squares are unlikely to be mine.

I noticed the difference in scores right away too. I had ? by all the players. I did have an extra tech. I did not see any extra tiles.

The archery tech is a gift to the AIs. Sounds like the set up was a little off. Are we restarting? Or?

yes - it is just a straight text file (notepad!) and should be pretty easy to understand. You will need to do the following:
  • search for the ARCHERY tech and remove it - but not for the AIs - check the team numbers for the AIs
  • remove all reference to 'ContactWithTeam=X' if the X is not the right team
  • to remove the non fog tiles, search and delete all references to 'TeamReveal=X' - don't worry if you get carried away, the game will automatically refresh the fog that should be revealed when you enter the game

While you were posting I tried opening Imhotep's file with notepad and found it pretty easy to understand.

I have removed all Archery and have sorted the contact issue.

I shall now go back in and look for the teamreveal.

I presume we are starting over then. I based my tech on the gift. I would (and will) have gone a different route.

I have been busy but one more thing. I was unable to play my return. I had the "Assets locked and the didn't want to change my Mod folder" usually indicative of a difference in game version due to upgrades. This is vanilla Civ IV but is it after 3.17? I tried with both of my computers. I will regress one of my game platforms to create an old Civ IV if necessary. My game file to play was titled;
Return_to_2_Civs_BC-4000_to_Chas_-_Hatshepsut.Civ4SavedGame

I should have mentioned that.

This game is created on true 1.74 Vanilla i.e. it hasn't been upgraded by BtS 3.17

I would say that is your problem.

I couldn't find any TeamReveal references in the WB file.

I made sure all teams MapReveals were 0 if that is anything similar.

I have recreated the game and replayed the Russian / Roman turns.

The contact issue is resolved ... no contact with anyone except the other team member.

The starting scores are 19 for all teams who have 3 starting techs (both team members have a mutual starting tech) and 26 for the other two teams where both starting civs have unique techs giving them 4 starting techs ... I never thought of this when picking my civs

Also checked the Demograph and soldier figures now range from 4000 - 7000 (instead of 4000 - 13000) now that I have removed Archery.

Obviously I cannot verify the map reveal for Mitch has been resolved or not.

Do you guys want me to send out this fresh save or what ?

Yes, please send out the fresh save and we'll all play our first turns again.

Chas, I had to use a different .dll file. Try this one:

Put it in your Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets directory. You should rename your other .dll file before putting this new one there so you don't lose it.

Thank you. I will handle that when I get home. If I need I will do it the hard way.
Yes, to Dazz.

Could you explain how that works please ... I run two seperate installations, one altered by BtS and one not. I wouldn't mind freeing up the disc space if possible.

I have 2 separate .dll files. One for GOTM games (which I don't play any longer) and one for some PBEM games. I think it depends on who set up the game and what .dll they were running at the time.

I name one *.dll file *.gotm and the other *.pbem. When I open a save, I rename the appropriate one *.dll. If I try to open a save at a later date and it doesn't work, I rename the current *.dll file back to *.pbem (or *.gotm) and rename the other one *.dll.

This works for me, but I don't have BtS, so it may not work for you.

Its worth a try. Thanks.

that method works for me and I do have BtS. I got bored of all the editing and wrote a small vb program to do the swapping of DLLs for me. Once you have these two DLLs set up, you can get rid of the other install (test the DLL swap first and delete the other install after a few days or weeks - just to be on the safe side).

Played and sent.

By the way, I can still see the tiles to the south, but they are in the fog, so I don't have current visibility.
