Over small amounts of time the NESing community and its original idea to a Boardgaming and "I want to make the best civ ever" community. The Dark Ages of NES is once again trying to attack us. So in conclusion, this will be the real way a story nes was, story, a Never Ending Story. The time starts in 4000BC and I am the Sumerians. Other nations have been added on the map and more will be added by your stories in which you can pick a civ, use Sumer for a try or make a new one. More will apear with your stories, combat is decided by story tellers, and orders are made in the story. This is the original story nes.

Sumer: Civilization Begins
The people walk the streets of Babylon with a positive mind. They know that this small nation of Sumeria is leading them in the right direction.

Stone has been formed to make new weapons for war. It was passed to all three major city states, Babylon, Ur and Kish. This was to be a major testament in Mesopotamian History.

The wise men commitee was gathered in a mud brick hut to discuss several issues of the state. Many wait outside surrounding the enterance and exit to hear thier decision. Who will be out new leader?

"I, Gilgamesh, has been recently appointed the new governer of the three city states of Sumer and leader of the Sumerian people"

The people where overjoyed and running to thier homes to tell thier family the news. Many stayed and cheered as Gilgamesh began to walk away with the Wise Man Comittee and and couple of Stone Tipped Spearmen, a new technology in Babylon. Sumer now had a leader, a real leader.

Matters of the state was taken into action as soon as Gilgamesh was appointed the new King of Sumer. He ordered the workers of this thriving nation to build more cities, cities that are walled and can house thousands of people. These homes were made of mud brick, the same ones that the Wise Man Commitee discussed in.

Gilgamesh also ordered that new operations to spread into the world around us was needed. Small groups of archers and Stone Tipped Spearmen was sent in three different directions from the small Empire. North along the Euphrates, south, and west. We have gotten no messages for one year.

Then suddenly a man came and knocked on Gilgamesh's door enterence of his extra large mud brick home. He told him of another tribe to the north of us with couincidencly the same governemnt system as us. They were ruled by three different city-states, though only one of the names where revealed to our solders, Nineveh.

We have called this nation Nineveh and sent them a card of peace and friendship for the time being for our nation is in the process of expanding thier boundries through peace and not war. Many loved Gilgamesh's decisions and hoped he never died and lived forever to rule Sumer the way he has done so far.

The spires and white washed buildings of Thebes shone gold in the morning sun. The uncompleted pyramids in the distance shown as a beacon accross the flat deserts of Egypt. Through the city below the city had just begun its rise to activity, bronze tips of spears as soldiers marched, people entering the marketplace to sell their crops and other goods, or the chants of the priests from the temples.

Ramses rejoiced in the beauty of it all. The great thriving nation, the populous lands, and the growth of the empire's boundries. His father had left him a strong empire, and the tomb in his honor continued to be constructed. One day Ramses would join his father in glory in the afterlife.

OOC: I would have written more, just ran out of time, more of this will be continued tomorrow in a much larger installment.

Alexander paced back and forth nervously. His men hadn't returned from across the water yet. He prayed to the gods that they were in good health and that the fabled sorceresses such as Circe hadn't thrown them off course. As he recited his prayer to Posiedon, god of the sea, a sail was spotted on the horizon, and by the next day, the men were safely back to shore and happily with their families. Still, Alexander wondered about what lay beyond Mycenae.

The reports were wonderous. Rich, fertile land along with metal-rich mountains lined the peninsula of Mycenae, and across the water lay many more rolling hills and fertile grasslands. In the water itself were fish for all the people of the kingdom. This would make his people happy and help Mycenae on it's way to glory.

OOC: I also would have written more, but I have some homework that needs taking care of.

MonkeyNES closed at once, so I'll reuse my story which was wasted there...

He had swum the river, climbed the mountain and slain the guardian.
Now only one thing stood between Ramaxes and his goal: The Gods.
On a pure white marble pedestal in front of him, stood a black box, unbreakable and unopenable. He knelt down in front of this and prayed.
"Oh Gods of the heavens above, that watch us mortals, I beseech thee, grant to me the gift that all men seek-"
Half an hour later, he stopped. He had heard a creak. The box was opening!
Determined not to miss a moment, he bent over the box. It opened, containing a fire burning on air. His massive, battle-scarred fist closed gently around it. His hand, then his arm was warmed and the flame crept into him.
He threw back his head and laughed, not caring of who heard. Immortality was his! His entire body shone as he strode out of the cavern, to where his two bodyguards waited.
"Die now! Die now!" they chanted, the ancient victory chant of this tribe. Die, for you have reached the pinnacle of life, and nothing could be greater.
Ramaxes laughed again. "I will NEVER die!" he cried out. "With a chisel of (insert metal here) I will cut my name on the stone of history! I shall found a civilization such as the world has not seen, and shall never see again!"
He walked majestically back down the mountain, intent on bringing greatness to his tribe.

Joining as Indus Plains (India, right?).

Ramaxes sat in his chair, bent by age. Thirty years of governing a people had done nothing to his body, but his mind was weary, as it often was these days.
"Go now. I will judge further tomorrow." he said to the twoscore people gathered to hear his judgements.
Once in his chambers again, he pondered. Immortality had not given him immunity to weariness.
After a while, he realized that his only solution was to grant others the power to judge. He could not rule the people all by himself.

Gilgamesh watchs his civilization prosper around him. Many wonder how he does it, many say he is the smartest man in the world.

Three years after the Skirmish Parties were sent to explore the land around Sumer diplomats came to visit my mud hut. My southern and western skirmish parties have reported to build settlements and barracks. To the north we have found the Nineveh Tribes a while ago. We offered peace and so did they. Mesopotamia was peaceful but ready for anything in its way. The diplomat said thatb more fertile lands lay to the north next to the Tigris River. We have decided to build another city there, one that will be remembered all around the world as the biggest city in the world. It will be called, Tupac-Shakur. I have sent many citizens from Ur and Babylon to settle and build a new life in Tupac-Shakur, they will love it there.

The Euphratese has become more valuable to the Sumerian people day by day. After learning how to build more advanced rafts we were able to ride the river all the way to a much bigger one to our south. We have gone no more further for the waves were to strong for our rafts and would eat us alive. We took no risks and just told the story of this new river. No name was given to it for we only called it the Monster River.

The city to our south that was built was to be called "Eridu". This city was more stranded from the Euphratese but was only built for military purposes.

The land of Sumer continues to prosper.

Part 1.1

Shoon stopped himself at the top of the hill. Most men would've been tired merely from the climb to the top of the little mountain, but Shoon had already traveled far and wide, and probably more than any man in the history of China. Eight faithful years ago, the emperor Qin had summoned Shoon into his palace, a beutiful stonecarved building next to the village temple. There the emperor told him of his dream, of expanding China to the edges of the world, till the people could throw pebbles off the sides and watch them fall into obscurity. Shoon wondered why the emperor chose him, a mere peasent, but Qin reassured him.
"You are the strongest man in our small nation. You have worked on your parents lands for years, and have turned it from a poor lot to one of the most magnificent farms in China, all because of your strength, knowledge and determination"
Shoon lay in shock to being so strongly complimented by the most important man in the world, but the old ruler continued.
"China needs heroes at this time Shoon, China needs you"
And with that Shoon had set off to the Southern lands to find places for his people to settle. He journeyed many miles, past large mountains and splendid waterfals. He looked at the sights in awe, and traveled for years, until he came to the most amazing site of all. Before him was a river, and the largest he had ever seen in the world.
"I have traveled enough" Shoon told.
And for the next four years, he journeyed back the way he came from. Now, 8 years older and much wiser, but with heart and determination much the same, he stood on the hill outside of Peking, overlooking the large village bustling with activity. With a heavy sigh he made his way down the little path.
People stared in wonder as he came. He must've looked like a savage, with a long beard and ragged clothes, as he made it's way among fair maidens and merchants equipped in the finest silk commutting through the marketplace. His suspicions were confirmed when a soldier came to him. When he explained to the man that he was Shoon Yu, the soldier stared in shock.
"You are Shoon Yu! We have been wating for you to come for years" he exclaimed.
Shoon stared in shock. How did this man know his name? He followed him to the palace, where a man looking very different from the emperor greeted him in the emperor's clothes, followed by a guard.
"Welcome back Shoon, I am Qin II, the emperor of China"

Part 1.2

Shoon sliced his apple in the new chamber given to him by Qin II. The knife's handle was lined with gold, a testament to the wealth Qin had gathered while he was away. He was still puzzled, and the energy given to him from the simple fruit helped him little. He remembered this Qin, a tiny child hiding in the shadows of the emperor's palace. A mischievious little boy who constantly poked fun of the other children and try to pull dirty tricks on them. In the eyes of Shoon, who had been strongly disciplined and raised as a loyal child, the younger Qin was a brat. His thoughts however, were interrupted by a knock on the door.
"Enter" he asked, getting back on his feet.
The elderly servant, Yulin, who he had seen as a robust scribe in his 50's when he was last in China, slowly came to his side hunched over and handed him his tea.

Shoon thanked him and was about to tilt back his head for a drink, but he had the sense that Yulin had something more to tell him. he kindly looked at the man.
"Speak elder" he asked as he beckoned him to his chair.
The old man gazed into Shoon's eyes and began to weep, obviously not recieving kindness for many summers. And he told Shoon all.

He told Shoon of how years after he had left, the elder Qin had died, and the people wept for his demise at the hands of old age. But Yulin knew better; Qin hadn't died of old age, but of poison. Poison given to him by his own son, the treacherous Qin II. And as he continued weeping, he talked of how cruel Qin II was being to the people, and how he was hated by everyone except the soldiers, who he was paying. Shoon knew something had to be done, but until then he needed time. For now he needed a plan.

The next morning he could barely look Qin II in the eye. Facing the ground he told him of the magnificent lands he had found, and told him to move the army South and annex the lands for China. And then in a flash of spite, and perhaps brilliance, he told him that much gold and riches lay on the other side of the river. With that, he left, his mood slightly improved by the look of wonder and longing left on the emperor's face at the mention of the wealth.

The Ninevites were a quiet people. Kings became kings for short amounts of time, kings died, and new kings rose to the throne. But one king was different.

The king's name was Sharkey I, and he was the absolute king of the Ninevites. He rose to power in 3900 BC, promising a land where all Ninevites would be equal. Little did the Ninevites know that "equal" ment no freedom.

Four ministries were created. The Ministry of Peace dealt with the army. The Ministry of Justice sent all persons against the governement, as well as ordinary criminals, to highly guarded prisons. The Ministry of Truth gave the country the news, and the Ministry of Prosperity managed the economy.

The people loved this new system. It had eliminated starvation, rebellions, and every other problem in just ten years. But would it be enough for the Ninivites in the future?

King Alexander was not satisfied with his kingdom. The people were happy, but they were yearning for more. They wanted the rolling hills north of Mycenae, they wanted the rich land across the water, and they were determined to get that. Alexander and his advisors set up a conference to discuss how these goals were going to be reached. They came to the conclusion that Mycenae must use it's military might to expand east and north, extending the power of Mycenae and bringing in resources and food for the greawt people of Mycenae to prosper on.

OOC: Sorry, I'm not very inspired right now.

do as much as you feel, I am not as well, I will write later today, or tommorrow, map will be updated later. Dont forget to add where to expand somewhere so I can update your borders, u know what I mean.

btw, who is interested in me adding stats??? Though you must send orders through your story not;

"ORDERS:
Increase army
Attack X"

It has to be somewhere in your story to be in effect and the battle outcomes and strategy must be hidden withing your story as well.

What about it?

Ramaxes knew that immortality did not render him immune to death by the sword, so he had trained a company of men loyal to him and him only.
The idea had sparked off another: armies!
Great armies, that would grant his nation immortality too, and expand the land they could claim!
Ramaxes had then begun ordering massive drafts of young men to the armies. He now sat in a medium-sized hut as twoscore people laobred to build him a palace.
He smiled as a messenger woman came running in.
"Your message?" he asked.
The woman knelt before him.
"Great Lord, our armies are expanding far, far along the river. They send reports of rich grasslands and cattle that graze unowned by anyone, of trees bearing luscious fruit and the river is teeming with fish!"

That had been but a few days ago. Now he was striding up the river himself, intent on seeing this new land for himself.

(Or: I created some armies and expanded up the river.)

Sumeria: Ground Works of Future Empire Part 1

I have watched these lands for many years. I have become an old, old man. I lived on this fertile crecent for 400 years sinse my birth. My life was good but my years are limited. Though until that day, my life is dedicated to make this civilization a real empire.

The boundries of Sumer has expanded very far though it was hard to settle more west for we were not used to harsh deserts. Our newly built skirmish party was stranded and starved to death under the scorchering sun. No more expansion can take place to the west, though, I thought. Cant thier be an easier way to bring water over to our stranded colonies other than bucket by bucket? I called my best scholors and the tribal council of all five cities in Sumer.

I asked them if there was an easier way to transport water to farms and to villages nearby. They paused for a second and thought, they told me this is a tough question. They said they will come back tommorrow. And so I awaited them.

One day turned into a week and one week turned into a month. They came back exactly 30 days later.

"What took so long?" I asked them.
"I am sorry sire, very sorry. We couldn't come up with a solution for many days without sleep. We have developed a plan though" is what they told me.

They were nervous. I asked to see the plans and I spared the punishment. I told them to describe it for me. They told me it was called Irrigation.

Yet years past with nothing new happening in Sumer. Granaries and barracks were being built in every city and village. Homes were being built to support a population of thousands in every city and village. The small empire was flourishing as it lays inbetween both of the mystical river.

My time is limited, though this is what I leave behind...

Sumeria: Ground Works of Future Empire Part 2

Life was enjoyable for the people in the heartland of Sumer. Roads were being constructed to connect the five cities of this GRAND civilization, atleast I thought it was grand.

Several years later my villages on the outskirts of Sumer in the west pending on water sensed some different movement on our border. They reported of people building a palisade wall on it. I wondered, becuase I never sent anyone to waste wood on that. They didn't have a clue of who these people where, atleast thats what my messenger told me.

The next day a man came to my large house and knocked on the door. He was much lighter looking and not anywhere near the way us Sumerians look.

He told me he was from an empire called Phoenicia.

***

The very next day after speaking with this man for a little bit and introducing him to Sumer I saw how unreliable the people of Phoenicia was to thier leader. The man decided to stay in Sumer for ever instead of going back with thier message.

I thought this neighbor nation was easy bait, I sent all of my skirmish parties and a new Enkidu Warrior Party to thier border ready to burn thier wood.

Sharkey II looked out upon his kingdom. Sharkey II was a man of ambition. He wasn't satisfied with a small Ninevite kingdom like his father was. Sharkey II wanted his empire to grow.

To the southeast were the Sumerians, one of the strongest countries in the world. (OOC: Amirsan, be Incas or someone, that way this can't be biased and more people will join.) To the northeast were the Greeks, again too powerful to invade. To the west, however, was a small little kingdom known as the Phoenicians.

To Sumeria:
From Nineveh:
We would gladly become your allies.

To Phoenicia:
From Nineveh:
The troops we are sending are for peacekeeping, and to help your nation get started. If any troops are killed, Nineveh will declare war on Phoenicia.

Sharkey II chuckled to himself after writing these letters. For he had secretly sent in a spy to kill a Ninevite soldier.

OOC: We should only have stats if we are allowed to post orders, because someone could increase something and you could overlook it. Stories should still be a requirement, though.

[secret]To Nineveh From Sumeria:
I take it you are considering an attack on Phoenicia?[/secret]

To Nineveh
From Phoenicia:
We are in no interest of help from the Ninevites, please leave our country and never come back.

ooc: I will stay as the Sumerians, I have a good story running as them, you can switch if you want but I dont think the Incas were living in this time, they were still hunter-gatherers.

Stats will be added this update and try to hide orders in story, if orders will be hard to find in story then post it after it as a reminder. Stories are required for orders for now unless you realy have a writer's block or no time, but you can only post an order with no story once in a row. ;) Those are the only rules and I will add the "guidlines" in the first post.

As you can see in my story, I have added that an "Enkidu Party was recruited and my army was sent to Pheonician Border" in orders language I did just that for my orders. Thats what I mean by hiding your orders. :) I hope you guys are having fun, tell me if something is not what you like here and I can consider change if it is resonable.

The guidlines might be like;
Economy: Dead, Depression, Recession... blah blah blah
Army: #'s by 300's
Navy: #'s by 5's
Training: Levels, same for Army and Navy
Education: Levels
Wonders: You know the drill for this

Template will be like this, I will make them though;

Civilization
Ruler
Economy: Dead
Army: 555, Low Training
Navy: 555, Low Training
Education: Horrendous
Age: Stone Age
Wonder: The Great Library (+5 Education) 1/8

very simple, I dont know how much more simpler it could get. Remember, this is guildines, battles will be decided by your stories and stratgey and power. I and you guys will be using stats to be able to compare so someone cant say they are in the Iron Age while everyone else is in the Stone Age. ;)
