Hi all

I started playing civ back with civ 1 (im old) and periodically come back to it - i had a serious addiction to civ 4!
I played the base game of civ 6 a few years ago, but didnt get the expansion and stopped playing.

Now- in lockdown ive bought gathering storm (not rise and fall) and started playing again.

I had fun as england and as germany on the play europe again map (constant war)- and now want to try an isolationist game

But i cannot, for the life of me generate an isolationist start?

Ive gone as extreme as huge island plates, knocking off three civs and high sea level- but nope, every time the generator feels i need a neighbour 15 tiles or so away

Can anyone suggest some settings?

Thanks.

I’m currently playing a game on Island Plates with High sea level and I started on my own little island with 1 CS. Unfortunately, I only had room for 4 cities. But I think the isolationist start had less to do with the Island Plates and more to do with the High sea level.

I didnt know that! question is do i shell out for R&F just for maps ...

Well, that's the wrong question to ask. Rise & Fall also brings new civs and leaders, new wonders, and new natural wonders. So the question is if all that makes it worth it to you, not just the map.

If you don't have Gathering Storm, Rise & Fall also adds governors, loyalty, new resources, new units, new buildings, new districts, and reefs.

Hey pokiehl

I bought gathering storm, i suppose i could get R&F too, i will probably get a lot of lockdown hours out of it!

My suggestion is to start a game with one AI civ less than the standard number for that map size.

Since you have the Gathering Storm expansion, another thing you can try is playing on the New World map type, as Maori. In New World, all the civs start on one continent, and the other one only has city states. If you start as the Maori, you can settle your first city in the "new" world, thus having it all to yourself.

Try Europe map as England or Earth map as England or Japan. There's your isolationist start :)

You could also play Earth map as America and choose other civs as ones that start in Europe, Africa etc.

I am pleasantly surprised that IMO Island Plates provides the best maps. I liked Tectonic in Civ5 but don't see that one here.
