If I told you how I got my games I would have to kill you
Lets pretend that my mother-in-law just asked how you get your games

Yeah! Anybody else wanna get in on this Renegade X jail time train?

Hmmm

Maybe it's because the game isn't that buggy?

Look how many people are getting issues fixed with driver changes. Seems like mostly driver changes and only a little bit of game issues.

I got three computers and Civ 4 runs on all three desktops.
1) AMD 3800+, GF 7800 gt , 1 Gb ram: My newest PC of course can handle those huges maps like Rhye's earth map with 18 civs.(graphics on high) Accept for the lag I get when zoomed out late in the game (probably could use more ram) the game runs great.
2) Intel Celeron 2.6Gh ATI 9250 (pci connection) 512 Mb ram: a year old cheap pc with a few upgrades can run even these huge maps yet not as well as my newest pc ; needs more ram. Still handles large map well enough to play. I cut down on the graphic some to improve some preformance. Very little movie/wonder skips.
3) AMD athlon 2400+ (motherboard is old and slow), GF fx5500 (now MX 420), 1gb ram: over 3 years old which came with a MX 420 graphic card. My fx5500 got damaged so i had to put the old card back in (mx 420). my motherboard and ram (only 2100) can't handle huge maps as it lock up for a few minutes when scrolling the map (traffic jams) but can still run large with slow down in the end. When I went back to the MX 420 I turn the graphic all on low yet even with this sorry card it still playable. The movies does skip on this pc.
So I got three different combinations yet the game is very much playable on all three even though my oldest pc has trouble with maps larger than standard. Of course the newer PCs can handle Huges map a lot better and has better performance.

As cynical as I am, I seriously doubt there is payment between companies for reviews of games (at least from big review sources). Yes, reviews are scewed because the reviewer (at least for games like Civ) is usually a fan of the series.

If you don't think a gaming powerhouse like EA (both publisher and developer) doesn't have a few of these 'credible' reviewers in their pockets then your sense of reality is skewed. I bet this buying-out of reviewing websites and magazines happens more than you think it does. I'm so sure of it I would start betting money on it. :D

Dont even get me started on Electronic Arts. There are more sites and companys fighting to get a taste of EA's mincy fag*ot corporate co*k than I have had hot dinners and for what? Every EA game I have "acquired" has lasted about 2 hours on my drive before walking the green mile to the shredder. People wonder why piracy is rife, yet they also complain they wasted money on this game and that game which turned out to be sh*t and collects dust on a shelf. Game, Music and movie companies really need to start pulling heads from asses and start realising that all the Money spending "cattle" of the world are starting to fight back.

So heres my question, how in the name of christs underpants did a game which has more bugs than a thai hookers pubic hair get all these awards and nominations?

Sure am glad I got to read this before the Mods removed it... greatness.

That said, I do NOT trust game site reviews, and never will, there is an unseemly relationship between them all that should give everyone cause to highly examine their impartiality...

That said, I wouldn't say Civ4 sucked either...

Renegade: I hope you're not too disappointed if I refrain from joining your revolution? I just don't have the time, I'm too busy playing Civ4. ;)

No bugs in the game whatsoever here, the game is running flawlessly.

It really does deserve those awards, for the game is perfect

try swapping map with an AI leader later in the game. Everytime I do this, the terrain starts to go black, and then the game crashes to desktop. This is but one of the confirmed memory leaks.

it is not perfect, this game has tons of bugs.

Personally, I've played the games multiple times just fine. Twice it's given me a blue screen, resulting in complete computer reboot. Somewhat alarming, but by no means crippling to gameplay.

It's simply not possible these days to release software which is completely bug free simply because of the wide range of systems, drivers, software etc that are out there. Look at the MMRPG market for a prime example of this. Each MMRPG releases a patch ~once a month and its rare for a patch to not result in a bug on someone's computer.

Realistically, bugs like the diplomacy bug (of which there aren't many) should be taken account of, but CTD bugs etc should not because they are wholly dependant on what system you run (and okay you may be experiencing bugs, but chances are you are an unlucky 1 in 1000).

That's not to say compatability bugs should not be fixed; just that they should not be unexpected.

Take this machine -
Athlon 2400xp running at 2.2
GF6600GT128 running o/c'd
1 gig DDR333 running at 2x200
o/c'd fsb ect
Getting on a bit but still holds its own in 90% of games

Well my story is like this. I can start a game, I can play it for about 5 hours straight with the most minor of glitches, but then I get tired and save my game. Next day I come back, raring to go again, load up my game, spend 10 minutes playing with the cursor on the loading screen and *WALLOP* crashes to desktop or just reboots the whole system with alarming consistency. I'll be buggered if I spend 5 hours building an empire only to not be able to finish it. [Deleted]
