A large part of the DNA from a frozen wolly mammoth have been extracted from hair follicles and the American and Russian scientists think it's just a matter of time before we'll see a live mammoth, even though some technical difficulties still are ahead.

What do you think? Will we see Ötzi revived too in time?

Has Hollywood taught us nothing?

I doubt we can get enough DNA material to do it. :)

@Truronian: A bunch of muscular primitive humans could extinct the mammoths and we can't do it with our weapons today? Unlike what Hollywood seems to want us to believe, the bigger the animal, the easier it is to fight it, for us humans. Of course, that's within a certain limit. But it would be harder to fight invasions of certain devastating grasshoppers than mammoths. ;) Spotting them is easy, hunting them is easy, restricting their food is easy since they need a lot of it, etc.

I think that it's obvious we should try to clone a woolly mammoth. Whatever normalises high technology

Yeah, I saw this story on BBC News. Not sure what to make of it as I have very limited scientific knowledge. All I can say is that I hope they are crossing over the one.

This could have,..... unintended consequences. One thing off the the top of my head is the polar bear. What if the moral issue of humans driving other animals extinct was rendered a moot point?

I would rather see the big predators brought back. The American lion, etc.

Perhaps they can be a food source for all the starving Polar Bears we keep hearing about.

They're drowning, not starving.
