RevolutionDCM for BTS

'ello all.

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=353684&page=5

Big progress on MP compatibility. Please note this is not to be considered an official release of RevolutionMP, but rather a test release just to make sure nothing's been massively broken before I merge the code into to the actual code-base. As such, some of the more recent fixes from RevolutionMP/DCM may not be in it either, I don't know... If anyone could let us know if there are any notable bugs or unintended gameplay changes it would be much appreciated. :)

@CivFanCCS
Yeah there are so many settings to experiment with in Revolution.ini. For limiting civs, frequency of revolutions, etc etc. A lot of them have to be played around with and personally I have not stuffed with them that much. To explain details I would have to read through the code again. As for whether the Revolution.ini settings update each time on game load, I doubt it but not sure. But to check it is simple. Start a game and run through 100 turns on autoplay. Count the number of civs. Exit and adjust MaxCivs and see whether the updated limit is applied by autoplaying through another couple hundred turns.
MaxCivs = -1
TurnsBetweenRevs = 8
DeniedRevs = 5

@CastorTroy
Yeah all Dales code is commented in the SDK and is fully integrated into RevDCM including XML and doesn't need WoC at all. The only difference is that Dale's original mod concept for the Manhatten Project doesn't exist, but I am supposed to knuckle down and include the Dale's version of Manhatten as an 'addon' to RevDCM. Basically the Revolutions mod and DCM are considered fundamentals to this mod and are thus fully integrated non-modularised. However people have modularised both Revolutions and DCM in WoC Lite for example. The DCM in RevolutionDCM is quite different under the hood than the original DCM. If you are getting CTD's, you've merged something incorrectly I'd say. It's a pretty big job!

Cheers

@ glider1
Ok, than i guess i screwed out somehwere along the line but i doubt it i got no errors from xml, sdk. And now after removing the XML from DCM i get the same errors its like the mod itself got corrupted and causes CTD, thanks for your help.

Hi Gilder, more comments on MP:

1. Reloading a game:
If the host loads the game in LAN and enters the game directly then the other player joining will have sometimes a CTD. To avoid that all players must be waiting in the pre-game lounge and once everyone is ready the host should launch the game.

2. One OOS:
I had one OOS over the week-end (3 hours of gaming), right after the OOS I had a rebelion in one of my cities: so OOS has something to do with this. To solve the OOS the other players simplay have to leave and join back through direct IP connection...

That's it :)

Just curious, killmeplease has a couple Commanders and Occasional Promotions that would be great to have. Also the GG from Barbarians

If you want to play with those, I recommend you try my mod, A New Dawn. It's based off of Rise of Mankind & RevDCM, and has all 3 of those in it as features, plus a whole lot more.

@Glider1,

Sorry 'bout advertising on your thread. :p

@Jack
Thanks Jack. Lemmy101 has done some cool things with MP in RevolutionMP. Won't be too much longer and I'll port them over to RevDCM. Meanwhile keep providing info on how you are managing to connect RevDCM, because no-one else is giving me this info and it could be very useful for debugging RevDCM in MP for both Lemmy and myself.

Will do!

Playing LoR I'm getting a bug where if I have an empire wide revolution that asks for a change in leadership, if I pick this option, nothing happens. I think this may be due to the porting over of the RevMP code. I'm fairly certain this bug would be in RevDCM 2.71 as well, as LoR 0.9.8d's python and SDK code that controls these functions are totally unaltered.

Ok, will have to check that out, but Lemmy has got other code as well that needs checking. Suggest you take the Revolution.py from the SVN prior to me porting over the MP code, and try again. Most likely you are correct. Lemmy has other MP code that needs porting over and checking. So the whole code is under review in any case.
Cheers

RevDCM now has four members to help improve this mod in it's late stages before Civ5:
1) Jdog5000 - chief developer and concept expert
2) Glider1 - assistant developer, admin
3) Phungus420 - mod infrastructure and balance expert
4) Lemmy101 - MP developer

Lemmy has done some nice things on MP as well as some amazing things with virtual PC's and MP debugging:

Hopefully with his input and other testers like jack, eventually we can fix this mod up in MP while not buggering up single player. That is the hope.

Cheers

And of course yourself Afforess. I know you have enough work on your own mod, but thanks for your help on RevDCM and Better BTS AI as well.

Ok a few more questions.

1) How do you enable the damn strategy layer in RevDCM BUG? I no not anything about it. You are supposed to be able to plan city placements with little dots but never found docs or any shortcut keys for it.

2) Did we ever get the map-finder code working while I was away?

3) I notice that in your mod and in RoM, you have a directory called MLF Frontend. Could it go in as a generic utility for RevDCM?

Cheers

ALT+X to start edit mode and CTRL+X to start view mode. Mouse left button places the dots. Yesterday I was trying to figure out why the strategy overlay feature isn't working in RoM 2.9 but didn't find any clues and python logs didn't show any errors. Is it working in RevDCM 2.7 (I haven't checked)? This info bit could help me narrow down the possible cause for the bug I'm experiencing with my mod...

Hello everybody! Does this mod work with Civ 4 Complete Edition? I bought the game 4 weeks ago and i cant get Dales Combat Mod to load in Windows 7. Should i try this mod? Is it compatible with Complete Edition and Windows 7 ? Sorry for my bad english. Have a nice day!

Yep, it will work. Also RevDCM wol't let you install the mod if something is wrong, the installer will give you an error and let you know what the problem is if there is one.

Thank you so much for your answer mate! So the only thing i have to do is to double click the setup thingy and it will install itself in the Mods folder? I have another question can you uninstall the mod if im not happy with it? I will probaly love the mod because i liked DCM very much! =) But just in case...

In order to put the mod on this site's download server the mod had to be put in a zip format, as CivFantatics wol't host .exe files. So you will need to extract it first, but yes, once it is extracted you just double click the setup extension file and the installer will do everything for you. Uninstalling is just as easy, simply click on the uninstaller link in the start menu shortcut the installer creates (assuming you tell it to make a start menu shortcut, otherwise you need to access the uninstaller in the mod's main directory, or in Window's "add remove program" list).

One final note. RevDCM is a fine mod if what you are looking for is unaltered BtS with some added gameplay features. Overall it is set up to be a modding core; RevDCM is basically BtS built around a BUG and WoC format with the new revolutions and DCM concepts added. If you are looking for an expansion to gameplay, I recommend checking out one of the many modpacks available that is built around a RevDCM core. One such as modpack I put alot of work into and ensure high performance and ease of use is the Legends of Revolution mod, and there are many others.

Thank you so much for helping me! =) I have one final question. When everything is installed i just press the load mod option in the game to activate it right? One again thank you.
