RFC Classical World

Could you change Langobards back to Lombards and Kambuja back to Funan? It's convention to use English historiographical names for dynamic names. Langobards is really just Italian for Lombards (which is English), and Kambuja is really just the Sanskrit name for Cambodia.

Lombards is the more widely used and recognized English term (i.e. Lombardy, Lombard League), just as Qin is more widely used than the still acceptable Ch'in.

Merry Christmas to one of my most favorite modders and small but dedicated community of RFC_CWers! :xmastree:

It's nice to come back and see so much progress!

Arabs look much nicer than before. It is possible to actually destroy Sassanids, while Byzantines hold in Asia Minor and being beaten in Africa. All this with the initial stack of Ghazis.

Still they need a small boost. Extra Settler for Basra and Great General (Khalid ibn al-Walid). It was under his military leadership that Arabia, for the first time in history, was united under a single political entity, the Caliphate -- even before his victories against Sassanids and Byzantines. Without him Arabs would not advance so fast and so decisively.

Islam does not spread in Babylon/Kufa, perhaps because its a Holy City of another religion?

And as a special Christmas favor -- can we finally see lake Baikal on the map? :please::rudolf:

merry Christmas Tigranes (and everyone).

Baikal has been in for some time.

perhaps the Arabs should spawn new Ghazis when they take cities (or maybe just cities with Christianity, Judaism or Zoroastrianism).

rev 104: fixed the Kushan spawn

Do all the maps have it? Map 4 -- I could swear it had none... Will double check.

The only thing about Arabs is this -- it takes very long time to get production going. So they have to accomplish much with the initial stack. Which is possible now when sprt reduced Iranian/Byzantine starting units. 1 extra stettler would allow player to place it in his favorable location and raze instead couple of unproductive cities here and there.

And what exactly do you have against GG? It is not going to change balance, but will add more flavor and possibilities.

Hey all, long time no see!

I am serving the Greek military force at the moment and I don't have much spare time.. though I visit the forum daily to keep up with the changes!

I was lucky enough to find a book about Alexander the great and the Hellenistic period at the camp's library and found some info you can use, and a new idea for caravans!

so, some useful info :
Alexandria on the Oxus was renamed to Demetria, when conquered by the Bactrians
Peshwar was Orovatida
Nautaka, on the maps I made for you, confirmed
Polis Mallon, again on the maps, was the capital of an ancient civ the Malhi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malli)

the idea I got for caravans is to make them generate a small amount of gold (1 or 2) each turn they spend a turn outside your borders. They can get bonus gold per turn if they finish their turn on a resource. They will become a really useful unit like this!

Also tomorrow I will post you why I think the Scythians should become a playable civ, again the book played an important role

also I got some maps for Asia minor from this book, I will put them in game and post them here when I finally meet my computer :p

ho-ho-ho :santa2: !

I'd say the Scythians, Sarmatians, the Germanic tribes and other Celtic tribes definitely deserve to be represented, but not necessarily as a playable nation. Perhaps independent cities, barbarian cities, civ revivals etc. However, I'd say this is more of a "2.0" feature, as some current features still need balance, polish or even proper implementation.

Europe's almost desolate emptiness doesn't reflect the reality of Europe in the later eras. Also, having the Celtic world a bit more populated, with more independents, with give a new and interesting spin on the early Celtic game. Before crushing the Romans and conquering a good part of Europe, one must unite the Gallic tribes!

Edit:

Egypt should begin with the entirely of Africa explored, as Egypt's main problem is they send out their Galicians south to explore the map and subsequently get curbstomped by the Seleucids.

good idea. AI performance for other civs as well might improve if they didn't likewise send units off exploring when they are better used in other ways.

Hi,

I noticed that some of the provinces in the win conditions (namely Deccan and Bangala) don't have any cities - so one must build settlers to gain these provinces. Is this intended ? As I understood Asoka actually unified India by conquest not by settling which then led in turn to him abhorring the violence of war.

In this regard. The numerous spawning rebels are really making this a very annoying game as one must constantly rebuild the plundered improvements and especially cottages , which are vital to run such a large empire are hard to build. Normally you can't defeat these rebels in the field as only war elephants can match them in the field. However these ones must be on a constant campaign to conquer all these many provinces

iirc you need 2 settlers for the Mauryan victory, 1 for Deccan and 1 for Anga. yes we could have indy Pratishthana and Tamralipti spawn instead. what do others think?

barbarians are part of the challenge in all these mods. you don't need to use elephants. I have always guarded my improvements in India with axemen and archers and that has been fine.
