RFC Classical World

help with anything would be amazing. this mod has become really huge. I would be happy to add you to the svn so you could make changes

the city name map needs lots of work, especially in China. come to think of it a lot could probably be moved over from RFCA quite easily since the map scales are almost the same now I think.

edit: the city name manager uses just 1 map like SoI and dictionaries for alternate names, and its all in python

Ok, I would help out. I know that we had problems with the Chinese city names, the maps in RFCA are very far from being complete when we come to the Chinese ones, since there are hardly any good maps for this time period. But I've already done Japan and parts of SE-Asia ;). So if you give me access to svn, I can update the map myself ;).

And I would like to add the Dawn of Man texts for the human playable civs if that is ok with you.

can you please explain me how core population affects expansion?

I have 5 cities in core as the Tocharians, with a sum population of 28. How far can I expand and how much population can I have outside my core territory?

this from the stability guide which has been added to the Read me file:

Spoiler :
The empire core vs periphery works as follows: all the cities population in your core provinces is multiplied by 4 to get the core population number, the population of any cities in your normal regions is left as is if you are running the empire civic (or the theocracy civic with the state religion present) and the bureaucracy civic and have a courthouse in the city, but multiplied by 1 + 1 for each of the preceding conditions that does not apply. So for example if you were running empire but not bureaucracy and had no courthouses the periphery population would be multiplied by 3. Cities outside of your normal regions recieve additional penalties. If the core population number is higher, stability is affected positively and if the periphery is higher stablility is affected negatively. So the rule of thumb is that without favorable civics or buildings you can carry an empire population equal to the population of your core with no ill effects. There is also a heavy penalty for losing control of any of your core provinces.

Oh and I think Baktra is a few tiles too much to the East!

yes you're right.

also Herat should be called Artacoana.

about the tech tree: I know it is visually messed up in a couple of places. I have tried to make it fit but its a difficult task. I am still thinking of adding more techs since the overall number is low considering the 1000 year time frame. I'd like to add scale armor as a prereq for lancers/cataphracts and chainmailas a prereq for heavy infantry and heavy lancers/knights. in the end I think the tech tree will have to be scrolled up and down as well as side to side to make it all fit.

someone mentioned the Romans needing to take Arbela for a UHV. the normal spot for Arbela is in Mesopotamia, not Syria, so they need Tyre, Antioch, Edessa and Damascus, which I think is fair.

As well as padding out the tech tree a little more, I might have a solution to civs' overproductivity in the mid-to-late game: the thing about new technologies, like, say, a new, heavier armour type, is that the units allowed by the tech would be considerably more expensive then a lower-tech unit, with lighter armour. Currently unit costs (and building costs) for later-game units are too low. Any give city can crank out cataphracts in between 1 and 4 turns, because of their high population.

Some cities might be too overpowered food-wise, and we need to find a way to severely depopulate cities when crises occur.

Edit: Yes, it's Begram, not Kapisa. Might want to change your comment in line 135 of consts.py to "Begram" instead of "Kapisa".

does the green area count as peripehery too, or only foreign and foreign core do?

so lets say that I capture a city outside my core. I do not run Empire and Bureaucracy. The population of this city will be multiplied by 3 and it will be compared with my core's population. Then I switch to Empire and bureaucracy and build a courthouse. This city will now be multiplied with one.. will the check with my empire's core population reoccur? or is it a one turn check only?

also could you please make the tocharian's UB to be introduced by eg constitution? its a bit unfair for them at the moment... give them some love <3 :p

I continued the game that I posted the screenshot from, at 200 AD the Celts control nearly all Europe, the Romans have Rome and Napoli and the Satavahana are simply a monster empire! Nerfs are required imo

edit: for late game, you can make late game units require a castle to build them, so not every city or civ will be able to produce them. And I favor some more late game techs too! :D

Oh also line 635, iSeleucids (i.e. Sakas) should be added to the civs the Kushans are at war with from spawn.

Agreed with Sitalkas on Gallic nerf. Sakas are doing a better job nerfing Satavahanas now though. Still, the Sakas need to be more reluctant to open their borders. They currently open borders at cautious.
Code:
# Mediterranean provinces used by Roman conquerors
lMediterraneanProvinces = [rAfrica, rLibya, rEgypt, rJudea, rSyria, rAsia, rThrace, rGreece, rCappadocia]
No Crete, Cyprus ?

the Roman conquerors only occur once per enemy civ, so having them declare on the Ptolemys and then take Crete with their conquerors and then just sit there would be kind of a waste.

for stability, use the Core and Border provinces in the civilopedia. right now it doesn't matter if a province is in someone else's core, only if it is in yours.

stability is only checked, not stored. there will be no effect from any changes unless another check occurs.

I made a few minor changes here and there, and I added a few cities.

here

Typo in the read me: "There are 2 kinds of Stability Checks, neutral ones and positive ones. Neutral ones can raise or your stability level and cause a crisis, positive ones can only increase your stablilty level or have no effect."

I was playing as the Romans and I managed to accomplish the 1st Empire UHV with 5 years to spare.
I have never felt so Roman.

The Seleucids were on a roll: they reduced the Antigonids to Ephesos and had captured Byzantion.
And then they were destroyed by me and Parthia.

Pontus was settling cities in Asia Minor, which I happily took.

Carthage was doing fine; usually they lose their outer cities when Numidia spawns, but they remained at perfect stability.

One more thing: the Hannibal spawn seems to be an on-and-off kind of thing.
I've nearly ruined my pants only once in my Roman games.
It doesn't seem to matter how the war occurs: if I declare, nothing (except the one time);
if they declare, nothing (in my current game, Egypt dragged Carthage into our war, if that might be important).

added those city names and fixed the typo

specialists that produce hammers now also cause 1 unhealth

priests no longer produce beakers, only 2 coins 2 culture

all production reduced, AI and units more so

tech tree visually improved, still trying to find a way to fit scalemail and chainmail

cottages are not buildable on floodplains until engineering

@FirstThunder: amazing! I will look into Hannibal. only -1 empire stability. did you build any courthouses or is that just the empire and bureaucracy civics?

gave the Satavahanas a huge nerf: they no longer flip Ujjain or Bharuch. also Ujjain is indy at the start, not Mauryan.

Holy crap! Who were you?
Did Pontus control all of those cities?
If I was them I would've rage quit.
It seems the Romans are finally picking up slack.
Now we need them to become even more awesome, more Roman.

Edit: @srpt: I only had empire and bureaucracy,
but you'll noticed that I did some questionable things in Italy.

Edit2: But I do have too outer many cities....

I am Pontus. To be fair, I fully deserved it. The Romans are a powerhouse, and my campaigns against the Antigonids and Seleucids left me severely overextended, to the point where my garrisons were 1 unit/cities, and sometimes 0 units/city in my interior cities.

The East is a dangerous place, especially if you're Pontus.
Good job! I've never had the patience to make Pontus into something so great.

So you massed your forces at Byzantium?
Launched a counterattack at Hadrianopolis?
Failed??
And turned tail back to Byzantium:lol:?
And then you evacuated to Ephesos?
???????
!PROFIT!

Blizted Byzantion with a combined naval and ground attack. Split the army in half, one by land to blitz Hadrianopolis, one by sea to take Ephesos. Once Hadrianopolis was taken (I only did so to get UHV completion), I evacuated to Byzantion where I consolidated my entire army. It was then destroyed.
