RFC Classical World

No, they had at least 2 other cities. I'll post a save if I can.

Edit:

Just reloaded the save...and I can capture the city without a problem! If I could have a guess, it's probably the "unidentified C++ exception" I had while waiting to spawn which caused the game to crash. It was definitely a stability-related exception, as the Python debugger made mention of a stability checking function.

Edit 2:

Playing a Byzantine game. It no longer feels like easy mode. It's actually quite challenging to defend all your borders. I've lost the Levant to the Sassanids and Constantinople got sacked, as a result of my meagre army getting annihilated outside of Edessa. I'll have to play more defensively next time.

I'm actually getting beat up very hard. Maybe that's why the Byzzies are a non-entity by the Arabs' time. Personally I like the challenge, it's more the AI I'm worrying about. Byzzies were OP a few versions ago, don't want to go back to that time.

Sassanid production seems pretty balanced as far as I can tell.

Byzantine Stability Bugs:

1. My economy is at +2 despite losing 2 GPT at 0% science.
2. I am stable despite a total balance of -1 +2 + 2 (the buggy economy value) - 7 -2 = -6

Further edit:

Can we disable cultural flipping? The only time that ever happens is when freshly-captured barbarian cities defect back to you, which is a silly bug caused by how "weak" barbarian culture is compared to civ culture.

Confirmed that after 270 BC, there is a significant slowdown between turns.

Did a regular download which gave me files RFC Classical World.7z & RFCCWAIWars.7z.

What do I extract it to? I used this

C:\Program Files (x86)\2K Games\Civilization IV Complete\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Complete\Beyond the Sword\Mods

for the RFCEurope mod and it worked fine, but it won't let me extract to it for this one.

I'm also assuming that I don't extract the RFCCWAIWars.7z file until the main file is done, yes?

Am I missing something or am I doing something wrong?

yes you have the right location. if you can't extract to that location just extract to the desktop and then move it. could be a windows 7 restriction about altering program files?

the RFCCWAIW.py file replaces one in RFC Classical World/Assets/Python

there will be a new version tomorrow

new in svn:

map changes are in, Byzantines have a new UP and are finally surviving a bit longer.

slavery no longer causes 1 unhappiness since it wa making AI civs switch out of it right after spawning, base happiness reduced by 1 to compensate.

1. My economy is at +2 despite losing 2 GPT at 0% science.

Did you have at least 300 or 400 gold (I'm not sure which value) in your treasury? AFAIK, that gives you an automatic +2 in the economy rating ("pass on savings")

@srpt

Could you look into this? The early game (after 270 BC) is slower than RFCE or DoC late game (and that's saying a lot).

OK thanks. Got it. It only runs if I don't add the RFCCWAIW.py file, but I'll have a look at that tomorrow.

It looks good though.

made some changes to the Celtic start: gave them chariots instead of spearmen, which are kind of useless to them, and put Bibracte on a hill.

edit: well its something to do with AI Rome because it doesn't happen when Rome is human. I thought it might be that they were taking a long time choosing city sites but I took away all their settlers and it still happened.

Well, I'm suspicious that it's either C++ or python code that has a typo somewhere causing it to be wasteful (i.e. iterating over a set many times uselessly or the like). I did see an "unidentified C++ exception". I'll take a look through some of the stability code in python, since that's as far as the debugger traced it to.

@DC123456789 I was not aware the check considered that. Thanks for the info.

I tryed a 550 AD Lombard game

it seems a pretty promising game, I would just love a fish/crab/clam to be added somewhere near Genoa so it can grow bigger :p

also in 550 AD there are 4 pre-placed Roman units in Spalatum, is this intentional for some early pressure on the Goths ?

no those Roman units are a mistake. I honestly have no idea how they got there.

added a clam near genoa.

Should the Mauryans be more aggressive? I always see Ashoka's troops hanging around the Indos but never actually attacking the independents there.

I find that they hold Takshashila and/or Multan in at least half the Bactrian spawns I have rolled, but I will look into their modifiers and see if anything is amiss.

swapped Asoka's modifiers with the overachieving Satakarni (Satavahana leader) to see how that changes things

Lombard gold fixed

after doing some research I moved the Gokturks capital to Karabalasagun in Mongolia

ctr-U doesn't crash the game for me. it opens some kind of unit debug thing. perhaps your crash was caused by something in the unit art of the unit you had selected when you attempted to open the interface?

Any luck?

ctrl-U did not crash the game for me the second time I tried. Strange. Byzantium should be named Constantinople in the 550 AD game ;)

Arabs performing very well against the Sassanids. Less lucky against Byzantines (mostly because defeating the Sassanids takes up most of their military). Also Baghdad "Baġdād" is misspelled as Bhagdad. I'll go fix that one.

edit: here

edit: 550 AD Japan does not have a capital.

I think the Arabs would be right on track if they had African and Spanish conquerors. They are doing a very good job at handling the Levant and Persia.

Sardinia and Corsica are unstable regions for the Lombards. As King of Italy you do have a de jure right over those islands.

I'll be consulting this map if there needs to be further changes to the city name map... (WARNING LARGE IMAGE)
