RFC Europe -Art and Flags Thread

Can we use this art? I think it's fairly attractive. It's from Varietas Delectat for RFC.

I've arranged the art sets into four ethnic groups that cover all of our civs except the Italians, Muslims, and Byzantines, who already have their own special art.

The groups are:

-The Iberians, for Spain and Portugal (and Aragon in ++)

-The French/British/Germanic, for France, Burgundy, England, Dutch, Germans, Austrians, and possibly Poland too (Scotland, Bohemia, Prussia in ++)

- The Eastern Slavs, for Kiev, Muscovy, Bulgaria (Serbia in ++)

- The Scandinavians, for Norse and Sweden (Denmark in ++)

Not included in Vanilla RFC are any Western Slavic civs like Hungary or Poland, luckily enough though, I found this file a few days ago that I think would be great for the Western Slavs; Hungary, Poland?, LIthuania

I like them, but how much do they take from my graphics card? Granted, I'll swap my poor virtual GT120M for a GTX560 soon but I'm just asking. We don't have a seperate Renaissance or Enlightment age by the way, maybe the Renaissance buildings could work for the late Medieval age? The Slavic and Scandinavian buildings look a bit too industrial to me for 1500 AD but I'm no expert on this matter.

I looked at it and this is what I expect:

- I think I'm able to include it, but it would take quite some time. I have to convert all things manually. (But it's doable before Februari)
- It will add about 10000 KB in size (probably less)
- It's very likely that this could be included as a seperate module.

Actually Varietas Delectat uses Geomodder's mod, Cultural Citystyles
It has a lot more citysets and was used in most bigger mods in the time it was in active development
AFAIK it's hard to add modularly, but I also like the idea to include more European city styles here in RFCE too
The problem is exactly what Wessel said, some of these are too modern for the mod

PS to Michael Vick: Hungary is very far from being slavic, even if hungarians migrated into the middle of a couple slavic areas in the 9th century
We are relatives with the Finns and Estonians
Hungary should get the German/Austrian city style for the renaissance era
The link you posted is a unique city set for medieval hungary, and was specifically made for a hungarian mod
I don't think it suits any other nation

Well, the Polish and Lithuanians are technically Western Slavs, and this leaves them with question marks. The medieval Hungarian city set will still be used for Medieval Hungarian though, right? Why not the Renaissance as well? The Iberians keep the same city set for Medieval and Renaissance because the Renaissance city set for them was some weird Alamo colonial-looking thing.

Sounds good to me, it's a superb and mostly realistic cityset for Hungary
But I'm not sure if we should include a totally unique set for only one civilization
Every new city set does take up memory of course, but if you guys don't mind it, I would be more than happy to include this for Hungary

Btw Merijn, this is the main thread for the Cultural CityStyles mod: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=328300&highlight=cultural

Poland and Lithuania had more in common with Hungary than Russia during this period, though.

Actually I agree with this
Especially with Poland, they are other brothers in both nations sentiment
We are not actual relatives with them either, though

Just to be clear, you suggest that Poland and Lithuania could also get the medieval hungarian citystyle, right?

I think I know how the Cityart works, so I can start including it. But I don't know to which category the following civs belong:

Genoa
Venice
Lithuania
Poland

The Artstyles that I have are:
ARTSTYLE_ANGLO_AMERICA (England)
ARTSTYLE_ARABIA (Arabia, Cordoba Turkey)
ARTSTYLE_GRECO_ROMAN (Byzantium, Pope)
ARTSTYLE_EUROPE (Germany, Dutch, France, Burgundy, Austria, Bulgaria)
ARTSTYLE_IBERIA (Spain, Portugal)
ARTSTYLE_RUSSIA (Kiev, Moscow)
ARTSTYLE_NORSE (Norse, Sweden)
ARTSTYLE_HUNGARY (Hungary)

I would let Venice and Genoa keep the Greco-Roman art. I don't know about Poland and Lithuania, I suggested that they should get the Hungarian art for the medieval periods, but I remember AbsintheRed had something to say about that.

Oh, it's important that you please put the Iberian Medieval Age art for both the medieval ages and the renaissance ages of the Iberian civs, and not include the Iberian Renaissance art that comes with the that mod. This is because the Iberian renaissance art is based on some new world style and the buildings look like they belong in Spanish Mexico.

I don't mind at all if Poland also get's the hungarian artstyle
I just said that it don't really suits them IMO

I think the renaissance art in Cultural Citystyles is to "modern" for the renaissance era we have here in RFCE
So we should probably keep this as a general rule, not only for the Iberan civs

The most appropriate age for that Renaissance art would be something like an "Enlightenment" age in between the Renaissance and Industrial Age, but unfortunately the mod goes straight from Renaissance to Industrial.

I think that if we don't define an Enlightenment Age in the mod, then the Renaissance Art would be OK for just the renaissance, IMO. It's good looking, and I'd like to include it somehow as well as the industrial art.

Here are the citystyles that you can choose from. Please say which ones I should include for what area.

1st row: England
2nd row: Arabia
3rd row: Greco Roman
4th row: Europe
5th row: Russian
6th row: Iberian
7th row: Norse

The most left pictures are the ancient, then classical, then medieval, then renaissance and the most right are the industrial cityart. (At least they are this way in the cultural citysyle mod.)
NOTE: The Norse are the other way around

I was thinking of including it this way:
Early Middle ages: 2nd row from the left
High Middle ages + Late Middle ages: middle row
Renaissance: 4rd row
Industrial age (if you have researched Industrialism): 5 row

You put the last row (Norse) in reverse
Actually I like many of the first sets - the ancient ones in CC
For example the Norse and Iberian 1st sets would work great for the Early Middle Ages era IMO

My suggestion in detail with the mods eras:
(Civs - Early Middle Ages, High Middle Ages, Late Middle Ages, Renaissance Era)

England - 2nd pic, 3rd pic, 3rd pic, 4th pic
Arabia - 2nd, 4th, 4th, 5th
Byzantium - 2nd, 2nd, 4th, 5th
Europe - 2nd, 3rd, 3rd, 4th
Russia - 2nd, 3rd, 3rd, 4th
Iberia - 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th
Norse - 1st, 3rd, 3rd, 4th
