RFC Europe: Extending/Fixing City Name Maps

I would call them Roman Empire, but that causes confusion with the Pope. Actually we can change the Pope's city and country to Vatican, which may or may bot be more accurate.

Do it, Vatican and Roman Empire, than the language stays english and can be understood.

bye Myri

I'll go along with it too, though it will take a bit of getting used. Maybe in the opening menu they could be called Eastern Roman Empire ( aka Byzantium ).

Opening menu shows the name of the people i.e. The Spanish, The Magyars, The Turks. So I am making that one The Romaii. The name would be East Roman Empire, in short ... Romaki? maybe. I am not sure.

The Vatican is inappropriate since it was found in the 20th century. I would call it the Holy See.

Or the Papacy/ Papal States which is more historically accurate.

Actually, if the matter is discriminating between the Byzantines and the Pope, I would go it for Eastern Roman and Papal States, respectively.

I agree with micbic, Papal and Eastern Roman. I don't like the idea of calling them "Romaii" anywhere in the game, that would just be confusing to anyone who hasn't participated in the thread.

Yae God forbid they were to learn something new :crazyeye:

OK, East Rome it is.

I agree too. Even I'm not too old to learn, believe it or not.

BTW I've posted the Warlords files for olives on the Roman roads thread. Hope they're OK.

So when's the next alpha coming out?
@micbic, any work done with the maps so far?

Trying it. A problem is that I don't currently have civ available (till Thursday/Friday) and, though I have both the helper and your files, I cant open them as the are beyontheswordsave files and no worldbuilder (far more helpful in opening by notepad) ;) Anyway, I don't just do nothing.

So, I did a major remap of Germany/Austria tonight. My goal was (1) to have more precise cuseful city sites at historically important cities, (2) to more accurately represent the resources available in Germany and Austria (a lot more Barley, some Pigs around the Bratislava area, etc.) and (3) to generally improve the geography of both civilizations. Attached is the WBSave and two screenshots showing the city sites I tried to work around.

Also, after a lot of fiddling around, I decided Vienna should really be one tile to the north of where it is right now. (It's way too far south of Prague.) But that decision is best left to whoever actually mods in Austria's spawn location.

I prefer to keep Byzantium as Byzantium. It's the name by which everyone knows it. We can always work on dynamic naming later.

I tend to agree with you though I can live with East Roman. It's Romaii that just seems weird to me. You wouldn't call the English when they spawn "Anglo-Saxons", Britons or Anglo-Normans would you?

@Verily: Error message at the German map; the Austrian is OK.

This should work. (I also added a Crab east of Roskilde since the Crab was moved out of its BFC to benefit Lubeck, and there should be an Iron on the hill two south of Stuttgart, which is cut off in the image.)

I like it, atleast Hamburg is useful city spot here, not the waste of food it is now.

An update. Nothing too much, but some here-and-there work done over the last post (improvements to Italy/S. France/Corsica, Germany and Lowlands). Thanks to everyone participating in this thread during this time and made suggestions or posted files.
@jessiecat: Can't open your Orkney-Iceland etc file (it's just a shortcut?)
