RFC Europe Files

Hi Everyone, I have posted an update to the .dll and up to date DLL source.

My dissertation defense was scheduled for May 1, a bit earlier than expected, but it is better that way. Unfortunately, until then I will be unable to do anything for RFC Europe and even if you see me post around, you are supposed to yell at me to get back to work.

Talk to you in a month.

PS The good news is that I will have considerably more time afterwards.

After a lot of searching, I think I've finished revising the tech. quotes. In keeping some from RFC I've included a few from classical Greek and Roman sources. But aside from a couple of Bible and Q'uran quotes, the rest should be all European and pre-1800. Both files are in the zipped folder I've posted below. I hope I've done this right. Tell me what you think.

Nice work jessiecat.:goodjob:

I looked through it and found the following:
1. In Manoralism you forgot an "o" in the word frm. (at the end)
2. in Seige Engines stands: ...brow, And... There should be a dot or a small letter.

Thanks. Fixed.:)

Wow, impressive work jessiecat, my congratulations.

I especially love the Michellangelo quotes. And Guy Fawkes with explosives... that's great!

I'd also delete the last, old quotes from RFC, to keep the file clean.

Thanks. What about all the Spanish, French, etc. equivs. of the old quotes? Maybe I should just leave it now for Sedna to look at.

Quotes look good. Some minor problems in the tech XML file (just typos I fixed). I'm integrating it and will release a new version later tonight or tomorrow morning. It would be great if you could then continue working from those files.

I'm not sure where I insert building or unit descriptions. Could you extract the sections and post them here like you did with the quotes? Or tell me where I put them in the file? Sorry, I'm a noob.

Do you mean civilopedia entries for buildings and units?

Ya. I guess I mean that. Isn't that what I'm supposed to be doing next??

New test version posted in the second post of this thread. This is mostly a number of bug fixes. I did include a bunch of new art for the Orthodox religious buildings. It's sort of a combination of whatever orthodox buildings or non-specific buildings I could find. I welcome suggestions for improvement.

I've put the mod under svn version control for my own personal sanity. This should have no impact on you people, since I export the directory before hosting it, but let me know if you see any mysterious files floating around.

@Jessiecat: The units/building civilopedia entries are slightly more complex because they are currently scattered throughout multiple files. When I find the time, I will attempt to gather them into a more rational format and send them to you. In the meantime, you can certainly work on writing up some (short) entries for the units/buildings which display TXT_KEY lines in the Civilopedia currently and we'll paste them in later. civmademepoor was going to work on this a while back. Presumably he got busy, but maybe he is still interested in helping out or has done some work.

Just downloaded the latest version and checked the quotes. A couple are missing plus one or two spelling errors. While I'm editing that should I fill in some of the tech descriptions below each quote? And do I do it the same way, with the _eu_ prefix before the tech name?

Sorry if I missed a couple quotes -- the game requires that the TXT_KEY_STRINGS be exactly the same between the Assets/XML/Technologies/CIV4GameTechInfos.xml file and the file where the TXT_KEYs are defined (in this case Assets/XML/Text/CIV4GameTechTextInfos_RFCE_Quotes.xml). There were a number of places in your original files where those two strings weren't exactly the same (a space instead of a _, or missing the word TECH or QUOTE). I fixed up most of them, but may have missed a few. If you look at these two files, you may be able to find the typo that is preventing the quote from displaying correctly. If you find a typo, fix it in the file where it is and try re-loading the game to verify that you got it.

For consistency, it would be good to continue putting _EU_ before the tech name when putting in tech descriptions. Note that you don't have to overwrite all these descriptions if you don't want to. Perhaps the theology entry is fine, in which case just don't add the _EU_ to the relevant line in CIV4GameTechInfos.xml -- the game will still find and use the old/original value.

OK. I've found the errors and fixed them. Rather than start new work on buildings and units I'll continue with text descriptions where they are necessary. I'll add _eu_ if I add text but leave it as it is where there is existing text, as per your suggestion. Thanks.

EDIT Here are the edited quotes files. I think they're OK now.

I did get quite busy, sorry!

There will be no new test version this weekend, as I will be out of town. People working on updated files (JediClemente and Jessiecat as far as I know) can feel free to keep working. If you have something you want included in the next release, just post it sometime before April 11th.
