If i had saved a game in the current alpha 8 and say alpha 9 comes out would i still be able to load the previous game with alpha 9?? Just wanted to know how it works :)

That all depends on how many changes there are in Alpha9. As there will be quite a few map alterations and other fixes this time your saved game might be affected. As a rule, I'd finish any game you'd want to save if you know a new version is coming out. In this case, it should be about a week. AFAIK. Maybe less.:)

Hmmm ok :) So when is the version that will be here to stay?? (at least for some time) like which map will be a stable map and we can be sure no newer versions will come out at least in the near future??

I think this version will pretty well finalize the map barring minor tweaks. Other changes are ongoing, like finishing the Civilopedia texts which I'm working on currently. Hopefully, we are getting close to Beta stage when it will all be down to playtesting, polishing the artwork and fixing any minor bugs which arise. That, of course, is in the lap of the gods (plus a little help from Sedna17, 3Miro and the rest of us.):D

Most significant mod changes break save-game compatibility. I agree that we are getting near to being "feature-complete", which means we'll be officially calling things betas, but that won't impact save-game compatibility. Also, it's been like a month and a half since Alpha 8, that's a pretty long period (for us).

Yes but all this waiting means the next version will be that much better :)

I think the only features that really need to be completed before Beta are;

1. Dynamic leaderheads and civ. names
2. Respawning (where and when)
3. More interaction with Papacy (quests, congresses, bulls etc.)

There may be more but that's all I can think of now. Anybody got other ideas?

And civ music!!! :D

Its funny when Hungary and Sweden get such an awefully COOL music, and then poland pops out and u hear some middle east music xD

New map update!

-Removed relics from Carpathians
-Added more fertile land to North Africa
-Added more dense forest to Northern Europe – particularly Germany and Poland
-Removed timber from Normandy
-Added inlet tile to give Sevilla coastal access
-Moved clams into Rome’s BFC
-moved ‘Iceland’ to where ‘Greenland’ currently is
-moved coal in Anatolia to north coast; reduced coal in Balkans, added more in UK
-added fresh water for Poznan tile – added Warta river between Wroclaw and Warsaw
-added far north resources around Archangelsk, and far east resources near edge of the map in Urals – primarily gems and metals, some extra furs.
-moved olives out from under Tunis
-made central Anatolia much more fertile
-added mud to Hungarian marshes
-added AA to Canaries and Iceland
-added cow to Alps near Basel
-change terrain in Levant and NE Africa as per Turk’s suggestions
-made eastern part of Nile delta more city-friendly

Any other changes you would like to see can be requested in the map thread.

One concern I had - adding dense forest makes it impossible to build cities in those tiles. I'd be more comfortable adding more of it if we alter the terrain to permit building cities in densely forested tiles.

Did you make any land-sea changes, apart from the inlet?

First off, GREAT JOB! I love the new map (much better then RFC Greek World) and I truly believe this mod is in full swing right now. Secondly I agree with your decision to allow cities to be built on dense forests, but as long as dense forest still gives you very little production, and hinders the economy

Yes - 'Greenland' is now 'Iceland'. 'Iceland' is gone. I also put mud into a few previously buildable swamps, and removed one swamp in the eastern Nile delta (where Damietta/Dumyat is) - although looking at it again, I think I may have chosen the wrong tile, and may move it one east to get out of Alexandria's BFC.

The Iceland shift is the biggest one, though.

The good news is there are no double units for Burgundy or France :)

The bad news is there are triple ones

Nvm, I will do it ;)

Better news. It could have been worse.

Quadruple ones??

Anyway, it will be fun trying a Dutch start with France and Burgundy starting like that. :D

As promised, the fixed map file.
I will update the SVN as well.

I hate to mention this so late. But if Iceland has moved on st.lucifer's map, has the Norse UHV map been altered accordingly? Not to mention the Settler and City/Name maps also?
