RFC Europe Wonders

IMO we should change the palace Art, because if you compare it to the Summer Palace, it looks very silly. I propose the last picture of the 2nd row of jessiecats post. (354)

If you mean the BTS palace (see screenshot), I agree. It is silly.

Anyway, here's some screen art for the rest of the proposed wonders. Magellan's Voyage, Belem Tower, The Gardens of Al Andalus, The Golden Bull and the Temple Mount.

EDIT Plus one of early Arab irrigation which might be useful

Probably a wonder with this could enable all religious civis.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statute_of_Kalisz

I think the Golden Bull does that. Historically, It guaranteed a degree of freedom for all religions in Hungary during a period in the Middle Ages. Yours though is interesting as it applies to tolerance of Judaism. We thought about the Jewish Quarter of Cracow as something like that too. Though that seems to have become a city building instead.

I put in the generic "Jewish Quarter" as the +money% building that you can build if Judaism spreads to one of your cities. It is supposed to represent the role of Jews in Medieval Europe as money-lenders. That certainly doesn't preclude a wonder based on one of the more famous Jewish Quarters.

There is Art in the database for a pawnbroker. Why don't we just call it that and have the Jewish Quarter as a wonder?

Allright, I noticed every wonder splash image is supposed to be 512x512 pixels, and some of them were uncompressed DDS. I've fixed that and changed the graphics for Magna Carta for the ones posted by sedna.

(Edit: oops, didn't see sedna's instructions for those images before. I'll work with that again)

Also moved some wonders to other techs:

Royal Academy to Scientific Method
Versailles to Nationalism
Leaning Tower to Guilds (with Literature as well)
Topkapi Palace to Matchlock (with Patronage)
Alhambra to Divine Right (with Patronage)
St. Basil to Nationalism
Dome of the Rock to Constitution (doesn't really fit anywhere, this is to put it a bit earlier)

Shrine of Uppsala becomes obsolete with Printing Press

Palacio de Pena renamed to Palacio da Pena.

Comments?

(I understand some concerns with those moves, but for me, seeing Versailles built by 1200 just kills the game. Regular RFC has that problem, but isn't RFCE supposed to be much more historical than that?)

So from the to-do list I'll continue with:

Leonardo's Inventions: I'd prefer it to give +1 free artist, +1 free engineer and +50% production in the city, doesn't strike me as a religious wonder such as University of Sankore.

Temple Mount: Is it the jewish shrine, or just a money generator?

Gardens of Al Andalus: ok, same as Hanging Gardens, I like that as it is.

Magellan's Voyage: +1 movement to all naval units? Couldn't it be better replacing Colossus from BTS?

Interestingly, from the XML I see there was at some point the idea to replace Westpoint with The Bastille. Wouldn't it be a better replacement to Scotland Yard? The Bastille was a politic prison more than anything else for a long time before the Revolution. Westpoint could be a generic Military Academy to be built with a Great General after researching Military Tactics. (And Bastille with Great Spy after Nationalism)

I agree on Leonardos Inventions. We discussed the idea of having the Temple Mount building Jewish Quarters in all your cities, which would give you the benefits of them. Gardens of Al Andalus - agreed. I think Magellans Voyage should boost trade routes but either way I'm OK. We need a Great Spy building but I'm not sure if the Bastille is early enough. Why not the Tower of London? Much earlier with lots of history and I'm sure we can find the art.
Everything else is done then? Great!

I was thinking maybe Cordoba's UHV could be changed to include "build La Mezquita, The Alhambra and The Gardens of Al Andalus", now that we have them; seems logical.

BTW, when is the next test version expected? Just to know wether I should attempt more wonders or post the files soon.

I think we'll try to push out a new test version this weekend. I have some time tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon to work on this. I would like to include:

A new .dll from 3Miro fixing a Pope bug
New wonders from JediClemente
New civilization art & balance tweaks from me

So, it would be great if you (JediClemente) could post what you have by Saturday morning. I'll make sure everything works and post a new file Saturday evening (all times GMT - 5).

I will try some work at the city-name maps at the same time (Spain gets foothold at Sicily-sync up with the new coastline at Britain), so that it will be ready at time.

East Africa is a National Project (not a World one). Is that supposed to happen?

All colonies are World projects. Though up to 3 players can build a Indian Trading Post or a Far Eastern Treaty Port. Its just that East Africa and Gold Coast are enabled by Atlantic Access but don't need either the East India Company or the West India Company to be built first. If its any other way in the code could you change it please?

OK, here is the upload.

(remember the previous version is needed before this one: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?wc2dxnemi5n)

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?znxeabumytl

All wonders I have by now. I think everything including buttons and movies is correct. East Africa fixed also.

Added at the last moment two ideas I had just last night:
Marco Polo's Embassy (with Literature, +2 silk, +3 trade routes in that city, +1 free merchant, obsolete with astronomy; graphics of the Doge's Palace)
L'Encyclopedie (world project, with Right of Man, equivalent to the Internet - gives any tech discovered by two other civs)

Hope you like it.

So, what we have left to decide on, I guess, are the following;
Belem Tower
Tomb of Khalid ibn Al Walid
The Golden Bull
Kalmar Castle
Escorial Palace
and "L'Encyclopedie".
