Rhye's of Civilization - the fastest loading mod Expanded - PART II

Hey, I know it's kind of late to ask this, but after I had a housefire, I replaced my game with Complete, and I can't figure out which folder to install the mod in. Anyone got any advice?

I think the installer should default to the correct folder. In any case you want something like

C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Conquests\Scenarios

Especially the bold. So in the end the final directory would be ...Conquests\Scenarios\[mod's folder]

The .biq scenario file should be directly in the Scenario folder mentioned above and not, for instance, in the mod's folder.

What the hell is black death? How can I find rules tips etc about this map ?

Btw, I am playing on Regent to learn how things work, and I am the Germans.

Thank you. As it turns out I already had it installed; I was just looking in the wrong place:blush:.

Black Death (in the originall Civ3 game) is just the name of plague. When plague strikes a city, it's population can dramatically decrease, so it hurts economy.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the info Meteor-Man.

I have several questions to ask.

1. Why terrains give off weird stuff? In original C3C, Grasslands gave 2 food, Shiny Grasslands gave 2 food and 1 shield, plains gave 1 food and 1 shield, hills gave 1 food and 1 shield, mountains gave 2 shields. I get different stats for Plains and Grasslands in this mod, why is that? They look the same too. Is it about rivers?

How rivers work?

How many movement points terrains cost? In which tiles normal troops can't get to? In which tiles a settler can't build a city?

Where can I find every single strategic resource and luxury resource? I figured:

Wines: Everywhere throughout Europe and Middle East.

Silks: Far East, near China and Japan etc.

Tobacco: North and South America.

Dyes: Europe, Asia, Central America, even some in South America.

Furs: Northern Europe and Asia, North America.

Incense: Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, Central America, Persia.

Spices: Central America, islands including Cuba and Hawaii, Indonesia, I haven't discovered India yet, but they SURE have some spice, as India was the end of the Spice Road.

Gems: South America and Africa.

QUESTIONS:

1. Which resources does Australia have? Any incense?

2. Where should I get Incense? All the Incense I can see are taken.

3. Why clearing forests are taking so long? Why can't I clear marshes and jungles(wetlands)?

4. How am I suppose to expand if I am playing as Inca?

5. Why isn't there any civilizations in central Africa, South America, and Australia? I am sure we can take off some civilizations from the game easily. We can take out Greece as there are already Byzantines and Rome, Netherlands as there is already Vikings, Portugal as there is already Spain, Israel as there is no need to add them, and etc. We can remove these 4 civs, and add Australia as Australians, Canaris as Ecuadorians, Chibcha as Chibchas, and Bantu as Bantus. There are more civilizations of history, which goes much much deeper than Israel's or Portugal's.

6. What the heck is "Armoured Car" ?

7. Do you have any charts of like:

Spearman-Pikeman-Musketman-Rifleman-Infantry-Mach I. ? We need that information.

Thats all for now.

I am going to take this one question at a time. I can't answer some of these questions, so bear with me.

1. Rhye changed the tile yields in his mod to better fix the balance in the game. The tiles look the same because he did not change the terrain graphics. If the icons show the wrong tile yields, just turn them off.

2. Rivers run along the edges of tiles and add commerce to every tile it touches. This cannot be changed in the editor and is therefore the same for every MOD.

3. To get incense, either declare war and takes some, culturally expand your borders to envelope some, or trade to get it.

4. The time it takes to clear forests/jungles/wetlands can be changed in the editor, which Rhye obviously did. Even though I do not agree with some of his antics, he probably did it for a good reason, which Rhye usually does. Also, it is probably editied so that you cannot clear jungle/wetland until a certain tech is researched.

5. The thing about no civs in certain areas you should ask Rhye; i cannot answer them.

6. An armoured car is just another unit. Write back if you want me to elaborate.

Hope all this helps,

MM

What's a good strategy for getting a nice lead in the tech race and keeping it? I've played Regent games as Israel, Korea, and Greece, I've always kept the tech rate as high as possible with net gain, and each time I fail to reach the middle ages before 1500. What should I do?

Also, in case you haven't figured out, I'm kind of a noob at Civ. Where can I find this Power Scale I hear so much about to pick the best civ for me?

Lastly, why does Arabia pwn so much in all my games?

Try playing mass regicide and Israel is good because of science and religion plus central location. Use kings (except one) like scouts to get science from goody huts! Good Luck!

Things like deciding what 31 civs should go into an epic game covering the whole of human history are pretty much infinitely arguable. The topic has been rehashed many times in this thread I'm sure, the last being just a page or two back. Making sweeping statements like Canaris' history is "deeper" than Israel's just isn't going to cut it.

I would tend to agree that some of the areas of the world are in need of a little more representation--especially in vanilla civ--but there are other things to take into account too, such as the fact that many of these areas had a very low population density for a great deal of human history. Indeed, even today South America is not nearly as populated as some other areas such as Europe (partly due to the fact that they're not cutting down all the jungle's to provide two-food, irrigate-able grasslands). The Middle East is always a tough one as the cradle of civilization... but I digress.

You'll find many of the answers to your other questions in the Civilopedia. IIRC it has been kept up fairly well and the upgrade lines mentioned in your question 7 will all be there via a series of links to the to a unit's upgrade on a given unit's page. I'm afraid there is no place where they are all mentioned in a linear format but it doesn't take too long to navigate the links in the civpedia.

For number 0 (all the resources) Ctrl + Shift + M will clear the map and light it up making it a lot easier to look around for resources. Otherwise if you open the map in the editor you will be able to take a good look at all the details.

Thanks for the reply, I didn't know about ctrl+shift+m , I will try it. Although, I can't open the .biq file with the editor, how should I open it? It says it is not a civ3 map.

Find Civ Conquests via your start menu and you'll find a shortcut to the editor that comes with all versions. Make sure you open the Conquests Editor then simply navigate to the *.biq file after you click File > Open.

5. I strongly disagree with your affirmations, I'm sorry

I'm downloading this mod now for the first time. Just a few questions about it if someone could help me out. I know you said it is edited to make the games load times drastically reduced...but if I did something like change the terrain graphics...or added a few units of my own (I dont know if I will but I might) will this slow down the things you've done to make the load times faster or will it not effect anything?

Hmm... I downloaded it and installed it and I cant seem to find it. I see it in the startup menu but not in civ content...I hate Vista.

I just found your mod and am excited to play it, but I'm having a problem. I loaded the mod, but when I load Civ 3, it does not appear in the scenarios menu. Any suggestions?

Have you checked the Conquests menu?

Then you will not have one. You will also not be able to play the mod. It says on the first post:

This mod needs the English/US version of Conquests, patched to 1.22.

Gold is just vanilla (original) Civ3 and the Play the World expansion. You are missing one expansion pack, Conquests. Conquests is the best version of civ as it added a lot of functionality.

Welcome to CFC though, there are mods you can download for PTW and vanilla both of which you should be able to play with Gold. You will find the mods and scenarios for Conquests in the majority though and if you really enjoy Civ3 I would highly recommend you get it. Most of us in the Civ3 forums have.
