Rhye's of Civilization - the fastest loading mod Expanded - PART II

In one of my cities, the resources are lessened like it's in Despotism/Anarchy,

I've narrowed this down a bit. It's NOT like it's in Despotism, it's actually worse. Any terrain in the city radius doesn't reflect improvements (mines, etc.). E.g., a mined hill w/ iron only gives two shields, a normal mined hill only gives one shield, an irrigated grassland only gives three food, etc. I know it's determined by the city radius as another city that shares terrain is only inflicted w/ this bug on the squares it shares.

Since this thread isn't seeing much action, I suppose I'm probably left to just accept it for this game. I just hope it doesn't appear in future games.

--Nevermind--
I went into the map editor and some of the terrain has landmark settings different (i.e., worse) than the usual. Apparently it was just coincidence that this particular city was seemingly surrounded by, especially, landmark hills. It is, of course, up to you if you want to change them back to normal. ;)

Aren't there "ideal" city locations in this mod? It is an "Earth" map, and your cities are wrapped in terrain that is modded to reflect "real" Earth. Your road net should give the supplies that your capital shows.

Aren't there "ideal" city locations in this mod?

There's only built-in, tribe starting positions on the earth map. Open the map in the editor and add pre-determined cities and terrain modifications (e.g., roads) if you want, but do yourself a favor and save your map -- i.e. the one w/ the changes -- w/ a diff filename. It's always a good idea to keep an original copy in my experience.

Rhye’s of Civilization - the fastest loading mod is a modpack that attempts to make a realistic and historically correct Civilization III game based on an Earth map, without pre-placed cities.

Yes, I am going back a ways. Your forbearance, for I have a request to make of people. Is it possible to get the latest version of this mod in ZIP or DMG? If it means installing by hand, then I shall install by hand.

I ask because Windows and I just do not get along, so I use a Macintosh instead. I have Stuffit Expander 13 if that makes a difference.

Hey Rhye! Just finished my first play-thru of your mod. Thanks for all of your effort! Most enjoyment I've had w/ Civ in quite awhile.

I have nowhere to upload it, so I'd suggest you to download the exe, launch it on a Windows PC, move the mod folders into your USB device and copy it to your Mac

I have no access to a PC. How large is the file in question (I have broadband)?

Update: I've learned that my copy of Stuffit Expander got corrupted, so I went ahead and downloaded a new copy. That recognized RoCX as a Stuffit document, but couldn't recognize the file format. On the other hand, Stuffit Expander is opening the EXE for Gaia Beta 1 quite handily. I will try downloading RoCX again and see what happens.

Update II: Downloaded new copy, Stuffit Expander still wouldn't open it. Drat.

7-zip on a PC won't recognize the *.exe as a valid archive either. Apparently the only way you can get ROC is to find somewhere that someone can upload the files extracted during installation -- the extraction shell is only there for convenience and isn't necessary to use the mod. After a cursory glance, the raw files will still be a few hundred MB.

If you can't find somewhere on the web allowing someone to upload for you, perhaps you could run an FTP server temporarily? There could, of course, be other options available to you that I'm not aware of ...

It's not that Stuffit Expander won't recognize .exe, it just won't recognize RoC's file type. I've downloaded a couple of other .exe files in decompressed them with no trouble, it's only the RoC file I'm having trouble with

Your suggestion regarding uploading to a file server, and my web host does provide unlimited space with unlimited bandwidth. Even so, it's a good idea to get permission to do this first. So I'll be downloading RoC and then uploading to my space at Hostmonster, assuming they okay it.

Unless, that is, I can ask some kind soul to unpack it themselves, and make it available for download?

So I had an idea. I went to the Apple download section at their web site, and found a few decompression utilities. Downloaded them and tried them with the RoC.exe. None of them worked. A couple didn't even recognize the file. Below you'll find the error message I got when I tried Stuffit Expander one more time...

Unable to Determine File Type

The file "/RoCX123_Setup.exe" does not appear to be compressed or encoded. It is advised that you obtain further information about the contents of this file from the sender or provider of the file.

The other utilities That did recognize the files gave a shorter version of the same message.

One other thing to note, the GUI Tar utility, which is basically a GUI for the UNIX line command compression utilities included with OSX, didn't recognize "RoCX123_Setup.exe". I have a bad feeling there is something wrong with the file itself.

So Now I'm off to see if Hostmonster will let me upload file to the server my host is on and extract the contents there. I'll let you know how it goes.

Update: And Hostmonster just told me it would do no good. They use Linux servers, and as far as they know the decompression utility CPanel (the site control panel they provide users) won't open .exe files.

Could some helpful person open the file in question on their PC, "RAR" it and let me download the beast. Pretty please?

I can zip the contents of the .exe since I've installed it, but I'd need you to provide somewhere I can upload it too -- i.e., a server or host of some kind. If you can't provide that then hopefully someone else has their own means that'll allow you to download it.

lilbacchant,

Thank you for the offer, but I'm afraid I can't take advantage of it. I did find an earlier version over at Storm Over Civilization, but only the basic mod was available. And it would appear that the various parts Rhye made available are no longer available at CivFanatics.

Again, thank you for your assistance; maybe somebody can help me, and other Mac users, by providing the full version for download.

Hope you are well.

Update: Turns out it was version 2.66. Which I now get to update to version 2.69. Fortunately the patch opened with no trouble

You can check the old thread if you prefer to download the basic mod or the expansion pack, in smaller zips:

I'm currently downloading the basic mod from the Storm Over Civilization site, will be doing a clean install to see how it works. I just checked on the download links for parts of the mod, only to find the links go nowhere. Do you have any plans to update them?

Alternatively, could you please compress and send a copy of the installed mod? Pretty please with a 5 gig RAM upgrade? I do want to see what all the fuss is about. I'd like to see the Israelites conquer the world. :)

Hi. I edited a Rhye's of Civilization (Faster Loading Mod) scenario for a friendly multiplayer game. However, whenever I try to access the scenario, I keep getting this error message:

LOAD ERROR
Missing entry in “Scenarios\Rhye’s of Civilization X\text\PediaIcons.txt”: ICON_
The game will now exit

I'm not sure what the "ICON_" means, nor where the problem is exactly. For every unit, government, improvement, and resource I added, I copied the icon and civilopedia entry verbatim from a pre-existing item within the scenario. Checking back on everything I've added, there isn't any that's out of place.

I in fact have a previous version of the scenario that used the same method for adding units and such. Testing both it and the actual original Rhye's scenario, they seem to work perfectly fine. As such, I have no idea what the problem could be in the final version that I'm getting the error message for upon access.

Could someone please tell me what the problem is?

Have you added any citizens?

No. I've added units and improvements, but as I have stated before I made sure to copy a pre-existing unit or improvement's civilopedia entry and graphic icon verbatim for each of them. Also, it was not a problem before.
