A minor bureau whose role is to oversee the "the administration and management of 55.7 million acres of land" somehow equates with a specific "anti-semitism" commission in the U.S. State Department, including a personal advisor to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice...?

I think this Commisionn is stupid, but so are anti-semites and people who fear "Zionist influence".

Take a look at the bureau of Indian affair's budget in comparison to the one given to Rice's advisor. I've a sneaking suspicion that it's massively larger. ;)

Honestly I think it's a pretty stupid position to have in the government. IMO, just another lackey getting a cushy government job.

Yes but I really doubt those votes would be influenced by something like this -- also keep in mind Rice has said about seven ways to Sunday she won't be running for the Presidency. She's basically a college professor who served her time in government. I take her at her word as she's not a career politico.

This looks like a cute political move to discourage people from accusing the US of having Pro-Israeli (far right Israeli) policies, and attract more poltical donations from Jews. I foresee anyone opposing US support for Israel being labelled as an anti-semite and cast into the abyss, this could easilly be extended to people to oppose future US wars.

Muslims are taking all of the stick at the moment and are in need of more protection than Jews. There's been far more anti-Islam stuff posted on OT than Anti-Jewish.

I know no more about it than what's been posted here, but it worries me. Mostly because Muslims are bound to react against it, as evidence that the US is in-league with Israel to destroy them. How will Al Jazeera report it?

I may be overly cynical, because:

His job will be to make sure bilateral relations with other nations and international organizations address any concerns about anti-Semitism.

It seems his job is outside the USA, where anti-Semitism may be a problem.

I don't know enough about it to say. Perhaps I'm overreacting and the guy will be fair and reasonable?

What do Leha and Shekel think of this?

Is there a large concentration of Jews in Florida - enough to swing a (presumably always tight) election?
Many old New York Jews go to Florida to retire...

There is a little problem involving Hamas, Iran and other Muslim states wanting to wipe Israel off the map. Having an expert on countering this issue would be helpful.

Wanting to wipe Israel off the map (if that's really what they want) is not the same as anti-semitism!

Um, are you serious...?

Is there anyone who actually believes that the "State Department monitoring of anti-Semitism" did not work hand-in-hand with Bush's eavesdropping-on-American-citizens program...?

I thought it was anti-Semitism.
You want anti-Zionism also?

edit: ok, there are others quicker off the mark...

Having such a large population of the world wanting to eliminate Israel is cause for concern.

What about the Jews who wish to wipe Palestine off the map...?

The Jews don't want to wipe Palestine off the map. They just wanted the Palestinians to stop blowing up innocent Jewish mothers and babies. If the Israelis elected a government that says all Muslims deserve to die, then we would do our part to select an anti-Islam advisor.

However, communism is an idea, not a race or religion. Nothing wrong with lambasting an idea if you disagree with it. There is everything wrong with lambasting racism and religious intolerance.

Religions are also ideas . Is an idea sacred if it forms part of a religion ? Is it above criticism ?

Thank you so much for correcting me.

The Zionists already did wipe Palestine off the map..

no, you see, those "palestinians" are, how should i say this, palestinian

I agree with Inquisitor, to the extent that there should not be an anti-Semitism advisor in the U.S. government.
