just when i thought contemporary American politics can not get more entertaining and weird, Rick Perry raises the bar to a whole new level.

it's not clear what he was going for in his Cornerstone's speech. some political pundits are saying that this was Rick Perry's attempt to energize his base and attract more votes by appearing more accessible and funny. these same pundits believe that Rick Perry unleashed an unknown but endearing side of him that will ultimately win over undecided voters in the forthcoming primaries.

meanwhile, youtube commenters have also chimed in. anonymous2213 believes that Perry was drunk when he gave the speech, robotspammer69 observes that Perry's effeminate gestures were deliberate to cajole the woman vote, and ObamaisaKenyanMuslim considers Rick Perry's Cornerstone speech as further evidence that the Slick Rick, as claimed, will indeed destroy Mr. Obama in a serious debate.

what do you guys think?

watch here:

I watched a couple minutes of it and I don't know what's going on. Maybe falling from grace so quickly has had an effect on him...

I HOPE he's drunk, poor fellow.

So very, very drunk. Like most Republicans! Keep hittin' that sauce, all ye elephants. At least then we'll know why you're so out of your minds.

a talking head said he had back surgery a while back and still takes painkillers occasionally, sounds plausible

i'm not prepared to accept any explanation for his recent display of goofiness except for the rational and well-founded explanation that his uncontrollable giddiness might have been an innocent and unintended side effect of a prescription drug. i think the painkillers made him do what he did. it sounds plausible and i'm down with it.

i suggest he consult with his PT and ask for a different Rx.

poor guy. i hope he gets well soon.

Rick Perry needs help man, he needs an intervention.

He lacks one of the first and obvious signs of drunkeness: slurred speech.
It could be a caffeine and sugar high or a manic episode, but if I had to guess I'd say it's coke (not the caffeine and sugar kind).

Those Texans sure do love their blow. Just ask Dubya.

He must have had a good buzz going

He definitely appears to be under the influence of something.

He's campaigning. You become deliriously exhausted campaigning and are prone to punch drunk moments. Especially if you are trailing in the polls and are losing your cool. It happened to Howard Dean....

Politicians tend to be somewhat goofy, social folks. They just know how to fiercen up and stay disciplined in public. But get tired and you lose your focus and just start being social and goofy again.

Not even close. From what I have seen by all of his speeches, I wouldn't bet my money that he can write a single page article in a sport fishing magazine.

Whenever I think our politicians couldn't possibly get more ridiculous than they already are, I look at the US and I feel a lot better :)
