So I've been playing Rife for a while now and love it (I dont even play the normal civ or any other mod anymore lol). I've got civ 5 on pre-order, so here is my question. Is the a planned Rife mod for civ 5 being discussed or in the planning process? If not I might just cancel my pre-order as I will probably be play Rife more than anything else (I have a Ps3 and Wii that are gathering dust because I'm always playing on my Pc).

Well from what I have gathered it won't be possible to directly port Civ 4 mods to Civ 5. So even if the Rife team immediately stops their current project and starts a new one it will still take them a few months at best to re-create Rife in the new engine.

If mods are what you are looking for then preordering Civ 5 is a bit of an overkill really. I'm just like you, not caring much for the "vanilla" civilization gameplay, and I will probably not pick up Civ 5 until the post-holidays super sale. Or simply buy a second hand copy on Ebay. Done the same thing with all games in the civilization series.

EDIT: Seems there won't be a Rife, Wildmana or Orbis in Civ 5 since there are not plans for an FFH mod. That's seems like a good idea in my opinion. The same thing over and over will kill even the best concept for a civ mod. Perhaps we'll see a mod set in the Warhamster 40k setting instead?

yea I always destroy everything in sight on the "vanilla" civ style games once I get my tanks before everyone else has even researched gun powder. it gets kinda old and I love how Rife has a more fantasy setting to it.

We have a detailed plan, but it is NOT set in the Fall From Heaven universe, nor is even obliquely related to it.

It will be fun, though.

Yeah, any large mods will take a bit of time to be developed. I'm excited about the new mechanics, though.

And yeah... Without Kael, it just seems wrong to recreate FfH. We'd prefer to make something our own.

the better questions is will there be a RifE type mod (not from the same people) for whatever new game Kael and Co are creating! I can't wait to see what they and the (hopefully) subsequent modders come up with.

Oh and I'm pumped to see what Valk and Co can do with Civ V. Should be sweet.

I know I'm getting old since I'm much less excited about the potential for the new game than I am concerned about how it will effect current civ 4 mods. Years of work went into making FFH->FFH2->FF->RifE, so it's hard to imagine there being mods of a similar quality for Civ5 in the near future. I fear change :(

kool will the new mod be set in the fantasy setting? This is what I have become accustomed to playing and have really enjoyed it compared to the "vanilla" civ.

also if you need anymore testers let me know :)

I assume you're going to keep working on RifE though, right? I can't imagine you'll be able to complete all the ambitious goals you have before civ5's release next month.

Huh, really? I rather think we will wait some bits before beginning modding on civ5, if only because we'd have to have the SDK, which we're not sure of getting at Day 0.

Never said we'd start right away there, Opera. :p

Mainly for the exact reasons you posted; Lack of SDK.

Oh, rest assured, RifE will continue in active development. The Civ5 mod is far more... focused? That would be a good way to put it. We will be developing both.

Well that's reassuring. I'm really getting back into FFH2 because of RifE. Got a little panicky when I though it might get cut off :)

That and trying some multiplayer, gods knows why I didn't try that before, it's so much fun! I'd be up for some MP RifE at some point. maybe with the next version.
