[R&F] Rise and Fall General Discussion Thread

To clarify, Land of the Silver Birch referenced wigwams, which the Mohawk did not build, but the Cree did.

Oh, and I'm willing to bet that Sean Bean will mess up with pronouncing Chandragupta Maurya's name.

Jainism should be added in as a choice for religion, given that Chandragupta Maurya later converted to Jainism.

It sounds like he was deeply religious to Jainism and India is a religious civ, so yes, they should add Jainism as a religion. Add Tengrism while they are at it.

Jainism and Tengriism should both be added in, especially given that the latter was added in G&K.

Oh, and their respective religious buildings should be added in as well.

Allright, so we have:
- Seondeok (Korea)
- Wilhelmina (the Netherlands)
- Genghis Khan (Mongolia)
- ? (the Cree)
- Chandragupta Maurya (India)
- ? (?)
- ? (?)

- ? (?)

I hope for two of these unknown Civs to be the Ottoman Empire and the Inca Empire.

The Jain were very careful not to harm animals and were practically vegan.

The Tengri were worshippers of the open sky.

The Cree would end up defaulting to Roman Catholicism, especially given that the name "Cree" is from a corrupted form of "Christian."

I said earlier that I thought we'd get a First Look on Thursday of Christmas week, but I'm changing my guess to Wednesday. There will be a teaser on Tuesday, under this scenario.

There is the question of which of the leaked videos will be shown. I'm guessing the Cree.

You know, I can't decide if the Cree being the AmerInd civ eliminates any chance of Canada or makes it a lock based on a possible settlers scenario. The Cree were alliance builders and the Canadian expansion was VERY different than the American version.

Basically: Will Firaxis take the time to make a scenario about peaceful settlement in North America? Everyone knows how my country handled our expansion over the AmerInds (not our most glorious history, and the only part of our history that I'll just flat out own and say "wow did we do that wrong"), but how much of the world knows how America's Hat handled their expansion?

So, my updated bets are still:

Korea/Mongol/Netherlands
Cree
Italian civ (Genoa as leader - spoiler: Portugal still isn't in)
Inca
Georgia (I've fallen in love with this idea)
Canada (Possible, hopefully, but not as likely as I'd hope)

I know it's popular to include Byzantines and/or Ottomans on the list, but I just have a feeling they're both bumped to xpac 2.

Ottomans are too important a civ not to be in this expansion

I can't be fussed to go back and look at my original predictions, but I was maybe the only person on this forum who wasn't expecting the Mongols, so I'm already not 100% correct.

Right now I'm thinking:

Korea
Netherlands
Mongols
Cree
I would have really expected the Maya, but since Palenque it has to be the Inca; both are "must have" civs and I'd be surprised if they both got pushed to expansion #2.
An African empire, probably the Mali, although Ghana/the Ashanti would be preferable imo
Again with the city states blocking expectations; while Antioch wasn't the MOST important Byzantine city, it does make the Ottomans seem much more likely. Like the Maya/Inca, Byzatines/Ottomans are must haves that are probably not going to come out together.
That leaves one slot that could really come from anywhere, as at this point we've covered most of the major geographical/cultural areas. My preference would be for another North American group, maybe from the SW United States to create the biggest contrast possible with the Cree, but I'm not sure that's the direction they're going.

And while Georgia would be cool, I'm not yet convinced. Though just imagine the state of this forum when that first look is released!

Canada didn't explicitly call upon Manifest Destiny as the driving cultural force of the nineteenth century, maybe, but things weren't exactly rosy re: native/settler relations. Just for starters.... google "canada residential schools."

Korea
Netherlands
Mongols
Cree
Ottomans
Mali
Inca

(India alternate leader)

This is my most likely list. I'm not sure about that last spot. That is the interesting one. We could get a surprise civ like the Italians mentioned above. And I would be okay with having the Italians in game. It seems a bit weird that Romans are representing them. I know that's been the norm civ1 through Civ6, but things change. If not Italy, then Zulu or Ethiopia.

I want Venice in there too. After all, the fall of Constantinople happened in 1204 already. It just wasn‘t the final one.
Yeah, the Fourth Crusade might be fun too, and Enrico Dandolo could return. And it could have more Civs: Venice, Byzantium, France, Germany...

Eh, I think neither the Ottomans or Byzantine are that important.
Hem hem... Okay, Byzantium might wait, but I think I strongly disagree about the giant empire that had territorries on three continents, conquered Byzantium and posed a serious threat to Europe: the Ottoman Empire ;)

The Italian civ could be based out of Florence, Milan, or Venice, depending on the leader.
You forgot Genoa and Papal States :p

I guess my reasoning for Ottomans being left out is that I can't see a way that the Ottomans are added without the Byzantine counter-balance. So I'm betting they're both in xpac 2 _or_, in the unlikely event that DLC continues post R+F, they'd make a great DLC scenario together.
