Rise and Rule - can't get extended game?

I'm interested in mods that add more techs and units and recently tried Rise and Rule. I really like it, but could not get the game to last more than 540 turns, even though I started it in the "extended" mode that supposedly allows 900+ turns. The game still ended at turn 540, when I had just barely developed railroads, and I'd really like to see what the game is like with the later techs.

Obviously I can continue the game after a winner is declared and just play on, but would rather not have the winner determined until I conquer everyone later on or build the spaceship or whatever.

Anyone know a solution to this?

I've looked at the extended biq file in the Windows editor. It has a table of custom turns and months-per-turn values that add up to 815 turns, (not 915 turns as advertised). So it *ought* to work as far as I can tell.

When you played it to turn 540, what year did you reach at that turn? If it was using the custom table, it would have ended at 1850 AD by my calculations. If it was using the standard rules and ignoring the custom table, you would have reached 2050 AD.

I am aware of a problem with Civ3 where, if you start up a game with changed rules, it will pick up some of the rules from you previous game. If you are playing the extended map for the first time, having previously played a standard game, it is conceivable that you have been hit by this problem, and it used the previous game's rules.

Without playing a full game, which I really don't have time for, I can't test it to 540 turns and beyond here. I did play one turn, and that was 25 years, which means it was using the custom table to calculate dates.

I have a saved game in 1834 that is on turn 524. So yeah, it ends in 1850 at turn 540. I owned half the globe at that time and was pushing science pretty hard but was still only about 1/3 way through the industrial age. The game just needs more turns.

I'll see if using the extended game for two games in a row makes a difference on the ending turn.

If it's using the correct turns->months table, it seems unlikely that the 540 turn limit is coming from a previous game. The default is no time limit, with a hard coded date limit of 2050 AD, I believe, so whatever happened your game ought to have proceeded to 2050 AD. Confusing! If you want me to investigate, upload your 1834 AD save, and I'll see what rules it's running internally.

There is a significant issue with the turns->years table, though I don't think it can be causing your problem:

I don't know if anyone has tested it, but according to my calculations, it gets to 1900AD at turn 590, mid-2011AD at turn 813, and 2020AD at turn 915. That leaves a shortfall of 30 years to 2050AD. If the game actually ends at 2050AD then those 30 years would take another 360 turns at one month per turn! Either I have misunderstood how the table works, or someone has miscalculated the table.

Hi, Empiremaker. :wavey:

How does your turns/months table work? I did the sums using the 1.02 version (didn't find 1.04) and the table appears to finish with two one-month turns, 814,815 in 2012AD. You would need a lot more one-month turns to reach 2050AD.
