Rise of Mankind 2.81 feedback and bug reports

i reacently build my first medic unit in a city where all my great generals are settled. although the medic had 19 xp from start on i had no option to choose any promotions though civipedia shows me that medics have some promotions available. i use v1.81 togther with Afforess AND modmod - so it might be related to this.

Adam Smiths gives +1:gold: per specialist, which apparently is a very powerful ability. The same applies to the civic Patrician - I find that I simple can't afford to shift out of this civic.

Yes, it is indeed. The bigger the empire is, the biggest boost you got. Talking about big numbers here. If you got 30+ cities, with 10-15 specialist, you can do the math :)

I think some balancing is needed here.

There are some wonders which gives you just extraordinary advantages, and AS is one of them. That is exactly why I always keep couple Great Engineers sleeping in my capital. Once I got proper technology, I can get desired wonder right away.

I understand your shock, but please keep in mind, that after cancelling efects from AS your economy just got back to NORMAL state, as it should be. Other words, you should just treat AS rather as a kind of GA period, instead of basing your whole economy on that.

As CivKing explained, there is a problem of specialized cities strategy. With all that multipliers you can create a monster which can easily fall down when one of the element becomes obsolete. One should consider more diversified spread of wonders of one type, in order to avoid huge collapse.

Also i started with 8 civs and got this many, is that normal??

I play RoM 2.81 with some of the elements of AND, and I got the same. Started with 10 civs, Byzantine destroyed in early stage, I got 21 in XVII century.

Yeah, but AS doesn't give a golden age, it gives an adamantium one! IMO it's very very unbalanced.

Solved. Original post below.

Hello,

i enjoyed RoM 1.0x and installed RoM 2.81 a while back. It worked fine until ~industrial age, when i experience reproduceable CTDs on ending a turn.

One thing that helped (for another 10 turns or so) was to save the game in the world editor and start it again as scenario, but then again CTDs.

I reinstalled Civ4,BtS, RoM2.8, 2.81Patch and A New Dawn 1.52, but still the same problem.

The CTDs happen in high and low graphic settings, so i would guess that is not the problem.

Attached are the save game which crashes if the turn is ended and the log files.

If there is someone here who can point me to the error's source i would be gratefull.

Solved? How? This also happens to me.

Just a minor bug:
Sometimes the sea blockade won`t go away even after the blockaded ship has been destroyed. This tile has been blockaded for severad dozend turs allready, and probably will remain so until the end of the game. Even with worldbuilder I could not undo it.

I agree, it is terribly overpowered. Patrician has the same feature, but it is used usually in early stage of the game, so you usually don't have so many specialist in your cities at that moment. Maybe AS should give you 1:gold: for each specialist, but with some limits (i.e. not more than 100, or be restricted only to 5-8 biggest cities).

Just upgraded from 2.80 to 2.81 and now seeing this error when attempting to load a 2.81 savegame:

Error: Failed to Compress Game Data

Civ4 then crashes to desktop - Any ideas? is 2.81 even compatible with the 2.80 save games?

The save game loads correctly if I revert back to 2.80.

Expanding the debate, I question the existence of the AS's Trading Company. The evolution brought by AS was about ideas, which wasn't property of any company or country. For me, we could take away this wonder, together with Copernicus', Einstein's and alikes.

Upgrades are not save game compatible, ie you can't (usually) play a save game from a previous version of any civ mod. This is because upgrades add content. Patches and hotfixes on the other hand may not break save games. Always check the release doco, they usually say if it breaks save games.

Hello

Attached is my saved game and log files. I got a CTD when I still had around 500 MB of memory left.

Thanks :)

It would help if we knew which version of RoM you were using eg 2.81 full, lite or mega. Plus did you have any of the RoM addons or modmods installed?

Edit: I just realised that I can get some of that information from the MLF.log provided in your logs file :) which shows that you don't have any modmods added but we still need to know the RoM version.

I get a run time error on the .exe when launching RoM Mega 2.81. I've been able to play the Full version for awhile, but wanted to use the newly added civs. After copying the files over, I used the java file as it says. However, it gives a number of .xml errors before ending the process. Has anyone else had similar problems? I am running XP Pro 32 with a pretty solid system.

I understand that these buildings have been introduced to honor most distinguished persons of a human mankind. I can agree that wonders such as AS's Trading Company can be removed.

As an alternative idea, please consider this: why don't we take away Copernicus', AS's and alikes, and have these greaest from greatest (like Einstein, Michaelangelo, da Vinci, Smith, Socrates - we can work on a list which should be limited to 10-20 people) as a super GP, which could start the Golden Age alone, or invent not only one, but i.e. 3 free technologies, or, settled in the city, would give us twice, or 3 times biggest bonuses as the regular GP?

I'm all in.

Is there any definative cure for the CTDs? I mean the ones that happen during the end of a turn. Because I've been looking in several pages of various threads and all I see is people talking about it and then being asked what versions they have. I thought the logical answer would be "oh you can cure it by doing this, or you may have combined two or more modmods which have now conflicted with eachother."

But how can we tell you this if we don't know which versions and which modmods you have? There's no point telling you that AAranda's Building pack updated by me conflicts with Afforess's Castle mod or AND and that you should have applied the patch provided in the first post if you aren't using those particular mods.

Also we can't look at save games unless we have the correct installation, ie the same as yours, as it wont load. Who knows you may have found the last ctd and someone could fix it if only they could load your save.

I've been extra careful and reinstalled RoM Full. I gave up on Mega working, but Full with the Civ Add on is sort of what I'm hoping to get working. Once I get RoM copied to here:

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\sid meier's civilization iv beyond the sword\Beyond the Sword\Mods

I then overwrite the contents of the \Mods\Assets with the add-on Civs.

The read me says to then open the jar file in Rise of Mankind\Assets\Modules\Custom Civilizations' and double click WoC_installer.jar

The problem I may be encountering is that there are two identically named .xml files in the Rise of Mankind\Assets\Modules directory and the only copy of the WoC_installer.jar. I have tried using the jar both from there and after copying those files into the Custom Civilizations directory. All of my efforts have so far resulted in a multitude of .xml errors upon launch ending with a memory fault that terminates the .exe.

I have been able to play RoM full without the Civ add-on. I think I'm a fairly savvy computer person, but I haven't played around much with these. I'm curious if anyone else has had a problem. If I haven't been detailed enough with what I have done, please let me know.

Aye good points and I appreciate the help, though I thought considering that it's a common problem there'll be somekind of FAQ on it.

I'm using Beyond the Sword 3.19 with RoM 2.81 and A New Dawn 1.54. Save attached.

I do love that advanced WMDs mod that comes with A New Dawn, as when I start a nuclear war I expect my enemy to be eating Iguanas-on-a-stick and taking advice from 1950's cartoon characters. :D

I had twice captured citys from the Holy Romans. Every time i got the message: You learn the secret of monarchy. But I doesn't get that tech or the civic. I play with 2.81.

Second question: Why do I get in modern times only a Warlord Chief (S) (I had the maximum of the upgradet versions of the warlord already built.) instead of a Great General. I want to settle down the Generals for Expirience of new units.
