Rise of Mankind 2.92 and A New Dawn 1.74H

i've been playing rom 2.92 and new dawn 1.74H for almost 2 years now, week long multiplayer games from ancient into modern ages with no issues. I consider that version combo most stable, tried newer ones (new dawn 1.75 as we all as c2c, but they are very multiplayer unfriendly, oos all over)

In another thread with no connection to multiplayer what so ever I came across this. And I have been testing for a few days now with a mate. And we have finished 1 small game in MP and started a bit bigger. We always seem to get OOS's but with this setup we are doing great. We had a few issues with "Waiting for player" but a simple game restart seemed to help there.

We run most normal ROM options on except we take off barbarians and revolutions.

So if you didnt already know this then you might wanna try it. Thanks to "gdambrauskas" for the information. :goodjob:

Rise of Mankind 2.92 you know where to get, but A New Dawn you can get from here.

Another note is that I first downloaded 1.74 then all patches a to h. And installed it in that order.

glad someone else got mp going:) I used to force everyone to try out new versions of mod, but pretty much everything >1.74 just unstable in mp. It takes quite a lot of effort to thoroughly test each version's stability, so at some point I just stopped on 1.74h.

here's a complete set of options i use for mp games

you can work out % of land tiles there should be in the game. Going above that is asking for oos errors and one day late in the industrial/modern era the game will start crashing unable to handle the number of units. We tried large maps down to this perfect size.

One very important late game glitch workaround, once your save game reaches ~800k-1mb(usually around industrial era) this what happens: you quit the game, try to continue next day -> the game crashes to desktop. The solution is to start a new single player game(possibly lan game also works, but single player duel size map is fastest to start). All players should do that. After that load the mp save, it will work as a charm. Extremely big thanks goes to my wife for figuring this out(that alone is a perfect reason to marry a wise geek woman...) I was installing visual studio and getting ready to invest a lot of time on debugging this crazy crash, but she hit on the solution before i went nuts:)

and if anyone wants to do some mp with and my friend, shoot me a message. We play pretty much weekday and a lot during weekend (i'd play more, but my friend seems to have a more busy life... even though he's single and i am married.)

Great! I just learned the late game workaround last night. We started a new game (MP) then loaded our last game and it worked. :)

I'd be delighted to join you guys in a game sometime soon. I'm a longtime Civ-er and am absolutely familiar with ROM 2.92, CIV 4 BTS, and so on.

Best,

Sobriquet

send me a private message if you'd like to set something up. I'm in nyc and you are on the east coast as well, so that helps.

Um, I couldn't find how to PM someone; could you show me how? Thanks!

Sobriquet

1. You need to have at least 5 posts and been a forum member for 5 days.
2. Click on the user's name in a post (where the avatar is). This will take you to that person's profile page.
3. in the Profile page there is a row that reads Send private message, Send EM msg, etc.
4. Click on Send Private msg.
5. a Post screen will pop up and you post a message and click Submit at bottom when done.

JosEPh :)

The five day/5 post qualification is what tripped me; I couldn't find that anywhere in the FAQs and whatnot. Thanks, JosEPh_II! To gdambrauskas, and anyone else interested in a Civ4/ROM (latest version) game, email me at civplayernyc (at) gmail dot com. Cheers.
