Rise of Rome revisited...

Whose turn is it anyway? Is jc011 going to play at all?

If he's not, then it'll be Ohwell's turn.

Are you insulting me, donsig?

No, I'm just sarcastically expressing my impatience to play. While waiting for a turn in one of my succession games I've been trying to play on emperor level. My self-esteem is slowly dwindling because I keep getting my butt kicked and I'm beginning to lose my grip on reality.:crazyeyes

Anyway, jc011 isn't even half way through his 72 hours so I will try yet another emperor level game.:)

Ah, but I see you have time to actually post here. :)

Ohwell, let's get the show going and go get the Greeks! :D

A brand new Emperor has arisen to lead Rome, his name is unheard of.

500 AD- For a small fee, we have allowed the English to escape with their lives.

510- The Greeks surrender, giving us all their gold and maps, plus crazy ideals such as Monotheism, where there is one true god, and The republic, which allows the citizens some freedom. Pheh.

- 520- The Greeks, thinking they wee safe again, soon again heard the swords of Rome slashing through their neighbors hearts, the Greeks are to be finished!

- Kill Greece until their last city is gone! Don't let them survive!

"Kill Greece until their last city is gone! Don't let them survive!"

Easier said than done, considering the minute forces you left for me. But War is Good. :D

Anyway, highlights : -

AD 540 Upgraded a few spearmen.

AD 550 Bought peace with Egypt for 40 gold. We don't need distractions. Chging govt.

AD 610 Chged govt to monarchy.

AD 660 Founded Ravenna. Suggests we found another city to its NW, on the coast, making use of the whale tile.

AD 680 English built Lighthouse. Switched to Art of War in Rome; Cumae now building cathedral. Captured Corinth with loss of one elite legion. Researching theology so in case the English finished the AoW, we can switch to the Sistine Chapel. ;)

End

Up next - donsig!

Maybe your karma is bad. :) I regrouped our 3 surviving legions in Sparta and waited for the 2 legions on their way to the border. Then the whole force of 5 legions struck out for Corinth. Killed 3 hoplites and took over the Greek city. :D

Hoplites are no match for Roman steel! :D

I remember when you first said that Knight-Dragon. I took my turn and lost 5 legions against those hoplites!:(

It is my turn again isn't it?

Yep, it's your turn. You're the organizer and you're asking me? :)

Maybe you've got bad karma too. :D No wonder when my turn comes, the border is exactly the same as I left it. I remember leaving behind at least 9-10 legions (in 2 groups) for you guys to play with.

But is it really that hard to take out those hoplites? I only lost one elite legion taking Corinth. And one or none (maybe 2; can't remember) taking Sparta and Thermoplyae. Hmmm ......

But don't worry, guys. ;) Greece is doomed! :D It's only a matter of time. And the Egyptians and English ain't bothering with our conquest. Keep those legions coming and research knights! :goodjob:

700 AD: Sent an emissary to Elizabeth's court to inquire about buying English ivory. The English want some of our horses so we pass on the ivory. An Egyptian settler and escort is asked to leave our territory and they do.

710-730: Upgraded defensive forces and moved legions towards next objective.

740: Completed access to our 2nd source of incense. Made a deal with Elizabeth: incense for ivory and 40 gold.

750-760: Legions close on Pharsalos are road to Corinth is continued. There's a new English city in our north and an Egyptian one to the south.:(

770: Greek archers repelled near Corinth as our elite legions occupy Pharsalos without loss.

780-790: Roman theologins formulate new theories of religion.

There are three Greek cities left - then we fight either Egypt or England? We need the dye that Greece owns.

Mycanae is where I lost 5 legions in an earlier round. It may be built on a hill so watch out! Catapults may help.

We are currently running a deficit of 2 gold/turn which is hindering the upgrading of our spearmen. If we get a great leader we should consider the forbidden palace...

jc011 is up!

Let's just finish off the Greeks and then build up our culture to absorb those two (three?) cities in our midst (hopefully). Also to build up our forces along our borders with those two powers. Maybe maintain one force in our desert penisular to watch for sea raiders. ;)

We can of coz continue invading the north after destroying the Greeks but we would only be conquering productionless cities. If our military campaigns go smoothly at all. We got good geography; we shld make full use of it and build up infrastructure. And get our Forbidden Palace online before attempting further expansion.

Just my 2 cents. ;)

I'll take a crack at this one, if no one objects.:D

Maybe we can jump start this thread and have a little fun at the same time.

Behold! The Forbidden Palace of Corith!
