Rise of the American Empire

Oh right. NPC diplomacy I overlooked. Benefits will apply as if they were before the lock, of course.

Now that Duluth has finished making its pact with the Navajo, Sparta offers a defensive pact to Duluth.

Duluth politely declines, not wishing to possibly overextend its forces in the event the Navajo and/or Cherokee are in need of our assistance.

To: Alberta
From: Pacifica

As a sign of the undeniable fact that is the Pacifica-Alberta friendship, we offer you a full alliance between our two countries.

Alberta accepts a full alliance with Pacifica.

To: Los Saveros
From: the Divine Mandate

Will you support the railway project, allowing it through you land for all our benefits, and to ensure your commitment to aid us in our struggles against the Mexican regime?

With a tap of his macuahuitl on the ground, El Gano of Los Salvadores has given his blessing to the railway project. The state has provided an allotment of land for use in a railway route.

I offer Alberta a free trade pact.

Alberta eagerly accepts, hoping the free exchange of goods and services across our borders will make both of our economies stronger.

Rockies War

In a surprise strike, Pacifica, the Navajo, and Alberta move against the American Republic. While radar systems allow the Republic to scramble its defenses, it is still an intimidating offensive.

The American Republic defends with 18 armies (plus 24 conscripts) and 23 air wings.

Pacifica deploys 30 armies and 20 air wings!

The Navajo deploy 44 armies and 27 air wings!

Alberta deploys 15 air wings in support of the invasion force.

While increasingly colder temperatures on the ground threaten the speed of a land offensive, such weather is less of a concern high above the clouds, where the air fleets of both alliances do battle. Joining the Pacifican and Navajo forces are the elite pilots of the Royal Albertan Air Force.

In the end, the Republic’s air force is simply overwhelmed by the numbers and skill of the enemy.

The Republic loses 10 air wings, the Coalition loses 2.

Republic Air XP +6

Alberta Air XP +3

Pacifica Air XP +4

Navajo Air XP +5

On the ground, the American Republic holds a defensive advantage due to its knowledge of the terrain and the increasingly harsh climate, but it is still severely outnumbered and its troops are not as well-trained as the Coalition’s.

The Republic loses 14 units, while the Coalition loses 6.

Navajo Land XP +10

Pacifica Land XP +7

Republic Land XP +6

The Republic loses 14 provinces to the coalition.

The Republic has lost around 1/12 of its economic output, and 1/10 of its land. While Georgian air wings are likely on the way to support it in coming months, the Coalition powers have their own vastly-expanded forces to fall back on, to say nothing of reinforcements from Carson and Alberta. The ice and snow will eventually melt and thaw, and the Coalition will be poised to blitz through the Republic’s territory. The Republic’s economy will also suffer, as trade routes now have to go through the chaotic wilderness of the East.

Strategic analysts anticipate the eventual fall of the Republic, though it is likely to last for some time, barring a major strategic upset with a foreign power’s involvement.

Mandate sends 15 navies, 10 Air Wings

Washington sends 5 navies + 10 Air Wings

Meiguo Republic sends 15 navies, 8 air wings

NYC sends 29 navies + 20 air wings

Chaos. That’s the best word to describe what happens offshore from Sable Island as what was supposed to be a coalition operation against the Divine Mandate’s outpost has both sides firing at each other, as the Mandate joins the fray on the side of the capitalist powers. The capitalist nations claim Quebec fired the first shot.

Internationale:

AFS: -2 air wings, - 2 Armies, +1 Air XP

Quebec: -6 navies, -10 air wings, -6 Armies, +3 Navy XP, +5 Air XP

Boston: -2 Navies, +1 Navy XP

Coalition:

Mandate -1 Navy, +3 Navy XP, +1 Air XP

Washington -1 Air Wing, +1 Navy XP, +2 Air XP

NYC -1 Navy, +6 Navy XP, +3 Air XP

Meiguo Republic +3 Navy XP, +1 Air XP

The Coalition wins a great victory over the Internationale, sending them reeling back to port with a fraction of their fleet. The Internationale manages to avoid being blockaded for the time being, but it’s apparent the alliance is in dire straits short of a major victory elsewhere.

Invasion of Syndicates

The Coalition of New York City, the Washington Heirs, and Meiguo Republic roll in largely unopposed, only facing pockets of resistance. Washington takes 20 territories and NYC 16.

The only real battle is against the Boston Commune, which still has a standing army to protect itself. The Meiguo Republic handles the bulk of the offensive, devoting all its resources to closing the Massachusetts front in the hopes of preventing a socialist recovery.

The air battle is a massacre; the entire Bostonian air force is wiped out, while the Republic loses only 1 air wing.

On land, The Republic loses 1 Army, while the Bostonians lose 5. The winter cold is an impediment, but not enough to prevent everything but the land around Boston from falling.

Despite the dire situation, the Internationale claims a strategic victory: Boston remains out of enemy hands, and has adequate supplies to build up a breakout force. The Coalition maintains air supremacy over the area, but has not obtained the absolute, crushing victory it hoped for.

The Heartland Campaign

Syndicalist and Meiguo Dynastic forces dispute territory, but the Meiguo forces are given full clearance to begin hostilities.

In the North, 7 Meiguo Armies and 5 Air wings swing through territories taken via negotiation. Despite no opposition, the Winter cold slows the advance, and a push into Canada is prevented. Nonetheless, the Syndicates lose 6 territories.

In the South, 27 Meiguo Armies and 20 Air wings run into a force of 18 Syndicate Armies and 8 Syndicate air forces.

In the end, Meiguo repulses the AFS advance.

Syndicates: -5 Armies, -3 Air wings, +4 Army XP, +2 Air XP

Meiguo: -2 Armies, -1 Air wing, +5 Army XP, +4 Air XP

Local resistance is vaporized in the battle between the two major powers, and so Meiguo comfortably makes off with 4 new territories.

Summary:

The Internationale sheds a considerable number of troops, though the logistical issues of Winter help mitigate the losses in the AFS' territory. In spite of this, the Internationale remains in a desperate position, vastly outpaced in terms of numbers and economic output. Outsiders anticipate a gradual rollback to Internationale territory barring an outside power causing a strategic upset.

Children of the Iccan! Lend your Prophet thy ears that you may heed the burden that now lays before the Divine Mandate of Tlamihua!

As you are no doubt aware we have been under the constant gaze of envy and wroth from the violent unbelievers of the so called "International," set by the Syndicate and its allies in Quebec. They have threatened the peaceful policy of constructing a monastery in Sable Isle so that the fruits of salvation may ever be spread across land, sea and sky. The atheists of the International threaten our peaceful efforts and have attempted to corrupt New York and others into joining them on a most evil crusade against what is our peaceful project. However I am pleased to announce that we of the Divine Mandate and New York are one in unity against the vile International, becoming one in a great Coalition against the atheist idol of socialism and its aims to destroy all aspects of dignity!

At the coast of Sable Isle was witness a great battle between the forces of good and the forces of socialism, a physical confrontation that representatives our eternal struggle against the malice and decadence that corrupts humanity. Many of our sailors, including a mighty navy fleet, became martyrs during the confrontation, earning their place in the higher realms of the paradise that we promise all. In the end the evils that dare threaten us where cast back into their countries, forced to endure the wroth of our new comrades as we stand as a lighthouse of virtue in a sea of vice.

The time has come to ensure that the deviant forces of malice linger not its hold on the crown of this world. The atheist idol must be burned before it threatens the goodwill of the faithful! The Syndicate have threatened to harm us; we in turn with the Coalition will take part in the strike against the unfaithful who dare in their greed to deny our destined dominion in Sable Isle and our divine cause to save the world from the sins that ill it so! I hereby declare that we will spare no expense till the International and its members and allies are made to answer before the cosmic judgement that we will bring forth. Our allies and ourselves will deliver the enemy their destiny! We will not rest till every single citizen in the Syndicate and every single soul in Quebec are granted the chance to take the choice; salvation or damnation. Those who refuse to heed the path of redemption will have their fates sealed, for they will burn along with the International!

This will be a costly confrontation; we who spreads the doctrines of peace will suffer but in the end we will triumph over the atheist, the decadent, the malevolent; as is the cosmic order of things! As the end of days approaches we will rest not till the north is free of the sinfulness of the International! We will help as part of this ever blessed Coalition as we bring judgement to the Syndicate and Quebec. May no rest be dealt till the International either surrenders before we of the greater good or embrace the destiny that will cometh to all who oppose the Iccan!

The end is just the beginning!

News

Aloha

The Hawaiian islands, with the loss of much of their population in the Plague (and resulting chaos due to the collapse of government and vital importation routes), have reverted to the pre-unification island state status.

The islands have become home to ambitious merchants from all over the Pacific, seeking to restore lucrative trade routes from the pre-plague era. All the same, life is harsh on the islands with the brief collapse of the global economy, and the locals are reportedly eager for rule by another power. The American population remains the dominant group on the islands, and this leaves open the opportunity for history to repeat itself.

Carolina Shifts Gears

With the inauguration of a new government after last November’s election, Carolina has officially signed a full alliance and free trade agreement with Bermuda. The governments of both states look forward to cooperation and protection of their mutual interests. (Carolina joins the Bermuda sphere)

Power Center Projected to Shift to the Midwest

With the wars in the West and Northeast, the only powers with the ability to expand into the Midwest are Duluth-Superior and the Cherokee, as they remain neutral. Analysts anticipate that the lack of competition for land in the heart of the former United States will serve to make these already-powerful states the dominant economic powers of whole nation.

Despite the tragic loss of life in the Rockies and Great Lakes conflicts, people in both countries have eaten up the perfect timing of the Winter campaigns on both sides of the Midwest expanse, as it has essentially delivered dominance to them.

Naturally, the world is watching to see what the Cherokee and Duluth-Superior do with regards to the current conflicts, but most analysts are saying it would be quite surprising if either was to shed the enormous benefits of neutrality for the questionable benefits of involvement in either war.

Iccans Make a Stand

The Iccans have gained nationwide respect for their public comments against the Mexican state, with many feeling them bold to stand up to the regional superpower. (+2 Prestige)

Eyes on the Ball

Sparta and Pacifica have both formed Basketball Leagues, each with different levels of success. (+2 and +3) The restoration of national sports competitions is making analysts feel the worst of the plague period is over.

American Cultural Organization

The American Republic has continued its rise as a diplomatic leader on the continent, with its American Cultural Organization working to foster free exchange of ideas and culture. (+5 for AR, +2 for joiners (Duluth, Georgia, Bermuda, Florida, Louisiana, Los Salvadores, Tennessee, Colorado, Washington Heirs))

The Rebirth of American Cinema

Mass cinema, one of the industries that the former United States enjoyed a dominant position in, has officially made its return. Starting with the American Federation of Syndicates hosting a film festival in Albany, numerous blockbusters have been produced around the country, with the ideological slants of many productions so prominent they can be tasted. The Syndicates have become one major distributor of films, but so has the American Republic, each one’s movies a clear product of their culture. Adding to the East-West rivalry, Pacifica’s film critic industry has become quite critical of Syndicalist productions, and in much the same way, Quebec’s own critics are clearly disgusted at libertarian productions like the American Republic’s Arrow. (+6 for AFS, +3 for AR, +3 for Pacifica, +1 for Quebec)

Rising Star

With the outbreak of the Wars, the Cherokee look poised for greatness, but it is evident they would be going places with or without foreign discord. They have promoted a strong cultural program of their own to counter the growing influence of the AFS and AR in cinema, while their economy surges upward in production. As a final testament to Cherokee power and influence, they have openly stated that they will not allow socialist powers to usurp the Iccans, should any conflict raise the possibility, and the Cherokee are recognized as a clear power broker on both a local and national scale. (+4)

Couch Potatoes in Season

The video game industry has seen a resurgence in Sparta, the frigid wastes that make up much of Spartan territory providing ample incentive to find a way to cope with the boredom. The modern agoge can only entertain people for so long. Outsiders are grateful that at least the Spartans didn’t consider bringing back the Roman Colosseum. (+3)

Trans-American Railway

The agreement between the American Republic, Iccans, and Los Salvadores to build a modern railway network connecting their nations is quite novel in its implications for regional trade, though it is apparent that any project will need to wait until the end of the conflict in the Rockies to bear fruit. (+1)

D.C. Joins the AMF

The self-proclaimed successors of the old USA joining the organization is a huge boon to its legitimacy, even as people ponder how effective it will be in light of the fact its de facto chair is currently on fire as a result of Albertan air raids. (+1)

Paragon of Peace

The American Republic once again is the sole power to expand through entirely diplomatic means. (+5)

Rockies War

While the War is likely to bear fruit for the attackers if they crush the Republic, it has soured public opinion of the three belligerents. (-5)

The people love an underdog, and Americans of all stripes are wishing the Republic luck in defending itself. (+3)

Great Lakes Conflict

Evidence is sketchy and there are conflicting reports of who fired the first shot in what appeared to be a joint operation against the Iccans on Sable Island, but the readiness with which the anti-socialist forces swept in to Internationale territory and the sheer numbers of anti-socialist forces around Sable Island has made many skeptical that the Quebecois initiated the betrayal, as this would require their leadership be completely insane.

The anti-socialist powers are seen as dishonorable warmongers at best and treacherous at worst. (-5) An exception goes to the Iccans, who are seen as having defended themselves, even if they were crafty in doing so. (+1)

The Internationale is not receiving quite the same amount of sympathy as the American Republic, but it is receiving some nonetheless. (+2)

Central American Insurgency

Central American pirate radio has had a field day praising the old socialist regimes that used to run parts of the region, all while promoting a new brand of socialism in the form of syndicalism. The Mexican military has lost some of its grip on the countryside as newly-invigorated resistance forces make use of much more advanced weaponry than they originally possessed. Public opinion suspects the AFS and Internationale, but with no damning evidence, the Mexican government has remained silent on the subject, while the AFS has reaped the benefits of being an unconfirmed suspect. (+5)

At the same time, libertarian nationalist rebels have become a force to be reckoned with, actively opposing the government in other areas and fighting to restore the freedom of Central America’s peoples from Guatemala City and by proxy Mexico City. Rebel propaganda suggests that former soldiers are joining the rebels en masse, but intercepted transmissions in English would indicate that they came from north of the Rio Grande. Given the range of libertarian-leaning regimes in the North, it is harder to know for sure who is supporting them. (+5)

Caribbean Insurgency

The Cuban and Puerto Rican insurgencies have gained some steam, hinting at foreign support, but their lack of a cohesive ideology means it is impossible to know exactly who is supporting them. (+2)

Changing Economy

Economic experts note that with the restoration of order to much of the United States, trade is rapidly expanding, limited only by a recovering population. States which do not neglect their communications networks are sure to benefit.

(Infrastructure levels relative to other states will continue to grow in importance as time goes on)

Given the expected defeat of the American Republic, and, therefore, their projected inability to effectively manage the American Monetary Fund, the Cherokee Nation shall be taking stewardship of the organization. We urge all members of the AMF to contact the AMF office in Tahlequah, instead of the previous office in the American Republic.

Mexico embargoes Pacifica, Alberta and the Navajo for their disgusting violation of the American Republic’s sovereignty when it has done nothing but be peaceful (if perhaps overbearing). It also closes the Panama Canal to Pacifican and Albertan military and merchant fleets.

Mexico has no horse in the race in the Eastern Seaboard conflict and recognizes the Iccans as having only defended their island possession. However, it embargoes the Iccans for so openly calling its leadership heathens (the Mexican Catholic Church will surely have a field day with this) and its suggestion that the legitimate governments of Mexico and Central America should be cast aside in favor of the terrorists that roam the Caribbean and Central American countrysides.

Georgia honors its defensive alliance with the American Republic, and declares war on Pacifica, the Navajo and Alberta. Georgia’s distance admittedly hampers the ability to participate in the hostilities, but it intends to send air wings to repel occupying forces from the Republic’s territory.

Louisiana issues a statement that while Iccans hold several key political posts, the great nation of Louisiana will not be participating in the Eastern Seaboard conflict. Louisiana will, however, defend the Mandate’s home territories from aggression, and the Louisianan fleet is positioned to defend the Gulf as well as the Mandate’s positions in Florida.

While Louisiana supports the Mandate’s claim to Sable Island in moral terms, it will not commit any service members to the area. As no foreign power landed on the Mandate’s soil, furthermore, we do not consider this an invasion activating our alliance. While the intent of invasion is certainly a concerning factor, the ambiguity as to whom intended to invade Sable Island and who intended to betray the other means we cannot determine a culprit with 100% certainty; our only option would be to declare war on all or none of the powers involved. The former violates core principles of justice, and so we take the latter option.

The subject may be raised that our allies in the Mandate colluded with the New Yorker-led fleet to attack the Internationale. As we are uncertain of the Internationale’s intent, whether to invade Sable Island or to attack the Coalition fleet planning to do the same, we cannot accept this as a preemptive strike. We are certain our honorable allies would not have any insider information on an impending invasion, and so we assume they simply attacked the Internationale and not the Coalition of their own volition (it being no secret that our allies have no shortage of grievances with the Internationale), which we accept as their right as a sovereign state, though it precludes our defensive treaty obligations.

Louisiana will note, however, that should the Internationale or any other power attempt to or successfully invade Sable Island, Louisiana will respond with war.

Los Salvadores’ El Gano, hearing Louisiana’s remark on intervention in the Great Lakes Conflict, simply said “Yeah, what they said.”

Bermuda reiterates its policy of neutrality despite its capitalist leanings and its proximity to the belligerents in the Great Lakes Conflict.

The Cherokee Nation recognizes that Georgia is only defending its ally. We must warn them, however, that if a single Georgian troop sets foot in Navajo territory, if a single Georgian plane flies over Navajo airspace, we will declare war.

You have permission to defend your ally. Not to attack ours.

Pacifica would like to note that it has vested interest in the Hawa'i islands, and would like to expand there in due time.

***Due to my being too lazy to look for pictures I will use dwarf fortress style descriptions where pictures would normally go***

Excerpt from a recent opinion piece from Anadisgoi, the most popular news organization in the Cherokee Nation and one of the only surviving pre-pandemic news organizations in the world:

"The signing of the BEAUTY Act, and the outpouring of funds and other government support for the arts that the act heralded, has resulted in a cultural renaissance in the Cherokee Nation. Independent artists were able to create without heed to the whims of private investors or to the fleeting tastes of the public- that is not to say, of course, that all artists stopped paying any attention to popularity or profit; the idea that art that makes money or is popular isn’t real art is as wrong as the idea that the only art worth supporting is art that makes money or draws crowds, but nevertheless, many Cherokee artists found the near-absolute freedom to create quite liberating. Native artists of every stripe and trade released thousands of works, and while not every creator can be Michelangelo, most of the works have been met with praise by critics and the public alike.

It was therefore with great pride that the Tahlequah Artistic Appreciation Society opened an exhibit designed to showcase the best of the best of the many new works of art the BEAUTY act has made possible. I was there at the grand opening yesterday, and the energy and enthusiasm were incredible; the line to get into the exhibit stretched damn near halfway through the city! Dubbed ‘Imperfection’ to acknowledge that not all art need cater to the same audience, the exhibit had a little bit of everything. There were sculptures, paintings, tapestries, wood- and metalwork; I even saw bone carvings! There were many soundproofed rooms in which patrons could listen to new music, some of which was being played live. Other areas away from the main exhibit screened the most acclaimed Cherokee movies, and- in a move that would have shocked the pre-plague world- there was even a miniature arcade where game developers showcased interactive works of art that the BEAUTY Act made possible. Unfortunately, not many of the works concerned the war, as not all artistic venues are able to respond to current events that quickly, but nevertheless, there were a number of works devoted to the orgy of violence the East and West have embroiled themselves in. I was privileged enough to get in early and see a little bit of everything; here are my personal picks for the best works at the exhibit.

Crying No Longer
Crying No Longer is a tapestry woven by Tsiyi Sinzuegel, Ahawi Lushington, and Noya Thagige. All craftsmanship is of the highest quality. It is made from Angora yarn cloth. The thread is deep scarlet, masterfully colored with cochineal dye. On the item is a masterfully designed image of a Cherokee, an Anglo, a Hispanic, trees, shrubs, and stars in Angora yarn by Tsiyi Sinzuegel, Ahawi Lushington, and Noya Thagige. The Cherokee is embracing the Anglo. The Anglo is embracing the Cherokee. The Cherokee is embracing the Hispanic. The Hispanic is embracing the Cherokee. The Anglo is embracing the Hispanic. The Hispanic is embracing the Anglo. The Cherokee drying the Anglo’s tears. The Cherokee is drying the Hispanic’s tears. The Cherokee is surrounded by trees. The Anglo is surrounded by trees. The Hispanic is surrounded by trees. The Cherokee is surrounded by shrubs. The Anglo is surrounded by shrubs. The Hispanic is surrounded by shrubs. The stars are looking down at the Cherokee. The stars are looking down at the Anglo. The stars are looking down at the Hispanic. The artwork relates to the Cherokee, Anglos, and Hispanics putting aside their past differences to work together in the post-plague world. It is made from masterfully-crafted Angora yarn cloth. The thread is gold masterfully colored with quercitron dye.

I’m going to be honest: I chose Crying No Longer for the sake of irony as much as for the artwork itself- which is stunning, by the way, don’t go thinking this decision is purely political. It is a work that celebrates diversity; a work that calls for the forgiveness of past grievances and for all people to come together to build a new future together. It is a work that would have been uplifting not too long ago, but is now bittersweet. East and West are tearing themselves apart- some for grand ideological reasons, some to settle petty disputes, and some because they just can’t stand the idea of anyone who thinks differently from them existing in the world. Perhaps if more of the leaders of the Post-American states thought the way the makers of Crying No Longer did, millions of people would not be suffering the ravages of war.

The Buzzard and the Volcano
The Buzzard and the Volcano is a rose gold statue of a buzzard, a volcano, magma, and mountains cast by Atsila Jyadus. All craftsmanship is of the highest quality. It is encrusted with snowflake obsidian and fire opal. The buzzard is sculpting the magma. The magma is being formed into mountains. The volcano is erupting. The buzzard is burning. The image related to the sculpting of mountains out of magma by the buzzard at the beginning of the world.

Now this is an interesting creation. What Miss Jyadus has done is take one of the old Cherokee myths and reinterpret it in a way that pays reference to modern science. The Buzzard and the Volcano is a merger of the classical and the contemporary, a reminder that stepping into the modern world is not the same thing as forgetting the past. Perhaps I am reading too much into Miss Jyadus’ intentions, but I can see a rebuke of the ultra-conservative and isolationist Keetowah here as well. Despite what the Keetowah elders may tell you, we here in the Cherokee Nation have not forgotten our roots, and to embrace our suffering brothers is not to debase ourselves for their benefit.

Uktena
Uktena is a chimeric specimen constructed from siltstone, reticulated python vertebrae, reticulated python ribs, and an elk skull by Cheasequah Featherstone. All craftsmanship is of the highest quality. The elk skull is encrusted with an emerald. The chimeric specimen is striking a menacing pose. The reticulated python vertebrae are embedded in the siltstone. The reticulated python ribs are embedded in the siltstone. The elk skull is embedded in the siltstone.

Yet another merger of the past with the present, Uktena is an attempt to depict what a fossil of the mythological creature for which it was named might look like. It uses siltstone from the Morrison Formation as a base, which was then carefully broken up and repaired around the bones from the python and the elk, to give an impression of a long-dead beast preserved by the earth. As with The Buzzard and the Volcano, it takes inspiration from Cherokee mythology, but unlike the buzzard myth, the Uktena is found in the folklore of many North American cultures, if under different names. A reminder that though people from differing cultures may struggle to live as brothers, they can always find a common ground, no matter how strange it may be.

Sisters in Arms
Sisters in Arms is a movie directed by Galilahi Bashford, written by Coowescoowe Nehemiah Sackville, starring Goga Pemzenez, Salali Zyagi, & Tooantuh Hepzibah Maycock and featuring a musical score by Atohi Batzekath. All directing is of the highest quality. All writing is of the highest quality. All acting is of the highest quality. All music is of the highest quality. On the reel is an image of a Syndicate soldier, an Iccan soldier, a New York soldier, destroyers, bombers, rifles, and troops. The destroyers are shooting the destroyers. The destroyers are bombarding the troops. The bombers are bombing the troops. The troops are shooting the rifles. The troops are on fire. The troops are screaming. The Iccan soldier is limping. The Syndicate solider is supporting the Iccan soldier. The New York soldier is supporting the Iccan soldier. The image relates to the deserting of the Iccan, Syndicate, and New York armies by three soldiers in the aftermath of the failed invasion of Sable Island.

Finally, we come to a work that was not made until after the War in the East was started. Sisters in Arms tells the story of 3 soldiers, two from the coalition and one from the American Federation of Syndicates. The Iccanite and the New Yorker become friends before the war and desert during the invasion of the AFS- the Iccanite deserts due to experiencing a crisis of faith after overhearing an officer discuss the success of the Sable island ambush, which she cannot reconcile with her view of the prophet as one who would not engage in such deceit, and the New Yorker deserts after her CO orders her squad into a suicidal charge against Syndicate positions of which she is the sole survivor. The pair are captured by the Syndicates and sent to a POW camp. At the camp, a Syndicate soldier becomes disillusioned with the syndicate cause after witnessing the brutal treatment of the prisoners at the hands of her fellow guards, and begins to fear that the AFS is more like Stalin’s USSR than she had previously thought. She helps the Iccanite and New Yorker escape, and the rest of the movie follows the journey of the three as they dodge hostile armies and trek through the countryside of the AFS- and later, Quebec- in their quest to reach safety in the neutral state of Duluth-Superior, all while supporting the Iccanite who was wounded during the escape from the camp. I will not deny that the writers were rather unsubtle with their anti-war message, but the fact that there is a clear agenda behind the work does not detract from it; the writing is very good, the actors give very moving performances, and the minimalistic portrayal of the battles themselves helps to avoid the trap that anti-war movies so often fall into, of making war look admirable and impressive. After the escape, the focus is more on the internal struggle of the characters as they cope with the lies their leaders fed them than on the war itself, and the beautiful way the actors portrayed the interactions between their characters is, above all else, the reason I chose to praise Sisters in Arms.

There were, of course, many more works of art at Imperfection worthy of praise, but if I sought to describe everything of artistic merit at the exhibition this article would never end. I hope everyone who has the time will go see everything that ‘Imperfection’ has to offer."

Sin
Directed by award winning director Li Hsiang Wu

Spoiler :

Award winning director Li Hsiang Wu directs a movie about faith, sin, lust and violence. The director of 'Arrow' moves in a new and more bold direction. 'Sin' is both a drama and an action movie which culminates into one of the most violent scenes in recent cinematic history. It is even more dark and grittier than 'Arrow' but also much more sophisticated.

- Li Hsiang Wu

The protagonist, Adams Smith (Nick Jones who also starred in 'Arrow'), is in his thirties. The movie begins with him lying on a dark alley, drunk and bleeding. A flashback takes us five years ago, when he was a young Christian priest. He prays to God inside a church while an older priest tells him about the virtues of living a life devoted to God and how sin and lust can destroy a man. He also makes him vow to stand up against injustice.

We then return back to the dark alley. The drunken Adams manages to get up only to fall on the ground, bruising his forehead and feeling dizzy. Another flashback takes us one year ago, when he first came to this city. He is a priest in a local church but every day in his way to the church he sees drug addicts and petty criminals. Eventually, he decides that his mission is to bring salvation to those people and begins teaching the virtues of leaving behind their sinful past and devoting themselves to God. At first laughed off, his sincerity and devotion to help those who seem beyond redemption wins them over.

Among those he helps is a young woman, Alice, who is a drug addict and thief. He manages to persuade her to turn over a new leaf but while doing so he falls in love with her. A moving scene follows in which the young priest contemplates inside a church whether he should allow his lust for her to control him or to suppress his feelings. He feels guilty for having such thoughts and gets drunk while trying to forget about it.

Meanwhile, Quin Williams, the local mobster, is furious that Adams messes up with his underlings and with those to whom he sells drugs. So he sends his men to beat up those who turned over a new leaf, including Alice. When Adams comes to see her and tell her that he wants to leave behind priesthood and live with her, he finds her dead. Furious, he goes to see Quin but his thugs beat him and leave him for dead.

We then return back to the dark alley and see Adams getting up once more. He can barely walk and collapses on the ground. Another flashback takes us a month ago. After being beat up by Quin's thugs, Adams was found by Qiang Wei, an old Chinese-American man. Qiang tells him that the only way Quin's reign of terror can end is if someone stands up to him and his thug. He then offers to teach him martial arts to fight back against the thugs. Adams remembers the vow he gave in the church to fight injustice and agrees. What follows is a twenty-minute sequence of hard and often brutal physical training as Adams learns martial arts.

A month later, Adams shows up to Quin's place. In a brutal, gritty scene he proceeds to beat up his thugs. The scene is realistic and utterly violent as Adams cracks bones, punches people to death, breaks limps. He is shown sweating, bruised, bleeding, exhausted. Every thugs' death is unique and showed slowly, with every detail. Once he finishes with them, Adams and Quin engage in a brutal fistfight; they vomit blood, have their teeth broken, are barely able to move, wrestle on the floor. Adams eventually strangles Quin.

We then return to the dark alley. Adams, drunk and bleeding, cries. He has lot his purity and pacifism and feels that he has betrayed God and cannot go back to his life as a priest. He has also lost the woman he loved and thus cannot live a normal life either. So he just wanders in the alley, drunk and crying. The final scene is a flashback to five years ago when the older priest tells him about the dangers of sins.

The movie has been a box office hit in the American Republic and has won awards for 'Best Movie of the Year', 'Best Action Sequences', 'Best Drama', 'Best Director, 'Best Leading Actor'. Many movie critics noted its dark and depressing tone, its themes of faith and sin and its brutal and violent action sequences. The final brutal fistfight is considered to be the best in recent cinematic history, even better than the one in 'Arrow', although one or two critics argued that it is a bit too violent. Nevertheless, general consensus is 'Sin' is one of the best movies and another masterpiece by Li Hsiang Wu

Los Salvadores, contemplating how much of an impact Mexican embargoes can have on American business, has decided to preemptively embargo Mexico.

It's good to hear there's still good people out there, unwilling to sell out to Mexico's power.

The Divine Mandate wishes to declare it is planning to begin plans for more temple constructions for the purpose of housing our faith, using the above as a potential template for our 8 sided pyramid design with a entrance for our small temples; large ones will use a series of complexing to help house more faithful in addition for facilities for priest services, vault for necessities such as food for distribution to the populace, libraries for hosting knowledge, secret chambers for protecting holy artefacts, conference halls for political conference, off-side rooms for meditation and the prime sanctum of the main priest.

Our fortress monastery on Sable Isle will use a more complexities design to also house a barracks, armouries for supplying the isle guard, a gunnery for protection, a command centre, a communication hub with radar access and routes to sub pens for both emergency exists along with serving as facilitation for our submarines. The isle will also include a prime fortress for serving protection and a naval yard to host our combat vessels, along with a merchant dock and temple market for the sake of our traders. Naturally the fortress monastery will process a school for future missionaries in training to allow us to send forth brave souls into heathen lands to convert the faithless into faithful, be it a mission in the Americas or beyond the waves into Afro-Eurasia. We had, as will be repeated, originally planned the monastery to simply be a monastery with the temple, missionary schools and merchant docks as focus instead of the full military holding but the International has forced our hands to develop more pragmatic conductions. We plan to host the base around the centre of the isle; due to the size of the complex be believe we have to 'raise land' with PRC style 'isle building' methods on the coastal parts to try to set out a most fortified holding; our design is to create a great holding to protect our priests, train our missionaries, provide shelter for our merchants and to base forces set out to face off against the atheist idol of socialism.

Praise the Prophet!

There doesn't seem to be any major standoffs, so I think 96 hours until lock is a good call.

WAR has arrived!

On the shores of Sable Island, scores of good Quebecois soldiers were peppered into oblivion by the cowardly rifles of New York capitalists and traitors.

Despite the falsehood of goodwill put forward by the green-eyed money-grubbing scum so well known to the Stop-and-Frisk City of Thieves, the capitalists shortly turned coat onto their old tendency. They deceived, attacked, and slaughtered people of the Free State, for no more than gain on a financial level.

Yes, friends, yes! We report to you here that the Iccan brutes and the New York devils co-conspired against the innocent and free men and women of Quebec to undermine the security of the northeast for little more than profit!

Iccan gold rattles in the greedy pockets of the New York bankers and investors today. In exchange for the money of theocrats, the capitalists chose WAR!

WAR against decency, honesty, and dignity! Underhanded, dollar-driven WAR!

The Iccans prepare for the construction of their disgraceful temple to insanity and irrationality as we speak! The two estates have once again united for joint supremacy against the third-- clergy and aristocracy, hand in hand to oppress.

I say to you, good people of Quebec, enlist! Enlist in your country’s army. Fight for your common folk! Fight for the everlasting torch of humanity. Fight to overthrow those nations of capitalists which would have your children sold, your organs harvested, your mind enslaved!

THE REVOLUTION CONTINUES!
