Firstly, a summary of the mods I use. Rise of Mankind is probably the third best mod out there. Although it is a little slow to run, it adds so much more immersion without being unbalanced. There is a mod-mod, A new Dawn (AND), which I also use, and find that to be the best mod out there. Sure, if you don't know what you are doing, then you will have an unbalanced game, but it adds even more depth and immersion to an already amazing mod, which in itself adds a huge amount of depth to an already impressive game!

So, if you want to play along, load Rise of Mankind 2.91, and then install on top of that A New Dawn version 1.72. Remember to install these components, and ONLY these components (Most of the others are unbalanced slightly, or have rather nasty bugs... but you can still play with them if you want!)

{Ice Breaker} Meteorology {Realistic Diplomacy} {Seafaring } {War Prizes} Arctic {Espionage Process} Forestation {Sea Tunnels} Terraforming {Lead From Behind} {Event Images} {No Storms} ANM {Historical Wonders} Formations {Mega Civ Patch} {Better RoM} Withdraw Depletion Guilds {Modern Corporations} {Coal UI} {Improved Artwork} {Airbase Range} {Civic Diplomacy} {Better Air Interception} Research Wilderness {Trading Posts} {Spy Satellites}

The number of game options, and DCM options available is also absolutely overwhelming, but I prefer to play with all the DCM settings off (except for Super Spies). Finally, here are the game settings:
Spoiler Game Settings :

No Tech Brokering
No Vassal States
Rising Seas (Global Warming can cause some tiles to turn to coast. Regardless, GW is now more 'realistic' in that it is graduated (IE. Turns tundra into grassland, and plains into desert, for example). Unfortunatly, nuclear accidents and nuclear weapons still cause Global Warming, but meh.)
Revolution mod (Your people occasionally rise up against you)
Inquisitions (Adopting Intolerant will allow you to build Inquisitors to remove non-state religion, to purify your people!)
Barbarian Civ (Barbarian cities can form new civilisations!)
Tech Diffusion (Technology slowly spreads around, from the technologically superiour to the backward nations. Quite slowly!)
Dynamic Civ Names (Gives civs new names dependant on thier size and civics. The German Tribe, the Kingdom of Germany, the German Republic, or even the German Reich!)
Multiple Production/Research (Can build more than one building/unit / research more than one tech if you have the hammers or beakers)
Usable Mountains (Peaks give 3 :hammers:, units can move onto them with the Mountaineering tech, and cities can be built on them with the Algebra tech! They give a 75% defence bonus)
Advanced Diplomacy (Civs forget very old war declarations etc. Also allows trading of units (unbalanced ATM, so I don't use it), and opening of Embassies!)
Assimilation (Captured cities build thier old civilisations UU and UB. They don't build your UU or UB)
Great Commanders (Great Generals can be used in battle. Instead of attaching them, or settling them, you can just leave them in a stack. Whenever a battle is fought in that stack, they gain xp, which can then be used to buy new promotions, which effect the ENTIRE stack. Quite powerful, but the AI knows how to use it)

And the civilisation the RNG gave me:

(PS. In this mod, citizens consume 3 food, not 2. To compensate, there are now many new food-based buildings that boost city size. As a result, RoM and AND cities are often LARGER than BtS cities, even though they consume 33% more food!

Finally, before we start this story, victory conditions:

Oh, and I am playing Noble Difficulty, but on a rather tough map (Earth2), as I keep on getting slaughtered by the aggressive AI in the early game at Prince. (Partly due to Better AI, partly due to a 'bug/feature' where the AI's response to imminent civilization collapse caused by Revolutions is to declare war on an easy target and try to gain some cities to placate the people)

The victory condition is the new Mastery Victory. In short, it overrides all the other victory conditions, and instead gives you mastery points for achieving certain victory conditions (as well as land area controlled, etc. etc.) In short, if you are doing well, you win. You don't win by having 1 warrior and 5 legendary cities, nor by abusing the AP, although those help ... victory needs to be EARNED) However, this being Noble, I plan to have two goals at the end:

Goal 1: Control the entire world. Yes... that is right. With revolutions on (In which your nation can be split apart due to cultural and religious differences, large empire sizes, distance from a palace, and war), I shall conquer the entire planet, incuring every single one of the ways my people can rise up against me!

Goal 2: Construct the Ascension Gate. I haven't done this before, but it seems interesting. Basically, it is a construction which is similar to the Space Ship, but is instant, always wins the game (if Scientific Victory is on, and Mastery Victory is OFF, in this case it won't do anything), comes REALLY late (even after the space ships, slightly), and, oh yes, reduces the population of EVERY CITY by 30. Population control ^.^

I have already played through a fair amount of the game, so sorry all those who would like to discuss initial city setup, but feel free to ask questions about the mod, or make suggestions about how I can do this to make it entertaining :D

6000BC - 769 BC: Foundation of an Empire

6000BC: The Native American tribe finally settles down on the coast of a great ocean. Elephants roam the North-western forests, and fish inhabit the seas to the south-east. Distant islands were soon discovered, but due to the unreliability of getting there on thier wooden logs, they didn't choose to settle there.

Once the first tribal leader of the Native American people settled down in Cahokia, he was greeted by his sages, who wanted guidance. The leader decided to work on designing better boats in order to scout out the islands to the south.

5880 BC: Native American scouts encounted a new tribe around this time. The Viking Tribe, known for thier incredably strong warriors (The Vikings are Aggressive/Seafaring. As a result, all thier melee units start with combat I AND amphibious. Oh, and in addition, amphibous has been buffed, to give the old 'no amphibious combat penalty' in addition to ANOTHER 10% strength boost. So he has 3.6 strength warriors out the door), and extremely war-like personality. They lived in war, breathed it, and the Native American people were intimidated!

5560 BC: The Native American scouts continued to head north, to find more tribes, and more land. They encounted a tiny village, raviged by tigers. Once the warriors fought them off, the village agreed to teach them some of their secrets: The secrets of ritualism:

(UB discovered! This UB gives 3 XP to all archery units. In otherwords, just like regular Totem Poles. This is useful, however, as archery units don't normally get much XP (since barracks no longer give XP to archery units, to do that, you need an Archery Range which comes with Feudalism). It is really nice, and has good synergy with the Protective trait)

5400 BC: A new tribe is discovered, as thier scouts appeared near the borders of the Native American Tribe. The Malinese:

5160 BC: With the discovery of better sailing techniques, the Native American people recieved the first galley for free. At this point in time, the Native Americans were masters of the sea.

The new tribal leader ordered that with the warlike Vikings near thier borders, defencive measures were needed. As a result, he ordered his sages to improve hunting weapons, to design a new weapon which could hold the Vikings at bay. Archers.

5120 BC: Native American scouts discover a new tribe, the Iriqous

4680 BC: And the Russian scouts soon came to the Native American borders!

In addition, by now, the Native American tribal leaders had decided how to expand to maximise control over the land, while still minimising the need to manage distant, and possibly rebellious, terratorial leaders. Note: Sorry, I forgot to have the resources menu on at this time. Most of the resources are visible if you look hard anyway, however

4640 BC: The age of the Prophets started, when the Malinese decided to allow thier prophets to manage and rule over religious issues, instead of simply relying on the folklore of old. Mansa Musa adopts Prophets (Religous civic)

4480 BC: New Native American Archers are developed, using simple wooden bows. However, the Native Americans are the first in the world to develop archers in battle, and as a result, they get a free archer from thier hunters, who join the military in pride of thier tribe.

The sages were then told to focus on a way to cut down the masses of forests, which were impeding growth of the empire. Although some trees were cut down, they needed ways to cut down trees faster than they grew back!

4400 BC: The Iriquous adopt Prophets as well, followed by the Vikings in 4240.

4040 BC: The first major religion is founded. Kemetism, founded by the Iriqous. Kemetism is the National-Wonder religion. Its shrine gives +1 :culture: per city following Kemetism, which means it becomes Legendary FAST. It also has three National Wonders which are state religion specific, and have very powerful abilities. The religions special promotion is "Pharoahs Propaganda". It requires a Great General, but it gives +30% withdrawl chance, and 1 extra first strike chance. It also makes any city it is garrisoned in 30% less likely to revolt. And in this mod, getting the GG promotion is easy easier. The only problem is that it is only available to archery, mounted, recon, and melee units.

3920 BC: Not content with the barbarians, the Viking peoples need for blood rose around this time, as they declared war on the Iriqous. This was the shortest war in ancient times, just 40 years later 1 turn later, in 3880 BC, the Vikings captured thier capital, and the war ended.

3800 BC: The Native American scouting party, which was a nomadic bunch of diplomats and warriors, was finally destroyed. A bunch of tigers managed to kill off most of thier leaders, and the army disbanded soon after.

3680 BC: The first Native American settlers group departed. Escorted with an archer battalion, they headed north to the hills of Poverty Point. The city was officially founded in 3520 BC.

3640 BC: Hinduism is founded in Russia. Hinduism is a cultural-based religion. Although thier buildings and national wonders aren't anything amazing, they give 3 culture per city following it (not 1 like most others). It is a very sub-par religion, but very popular, as it spreads quickly. Its unique promotion is "Holy Trinity" (No amphibious combat penalty, 20% withdrawl chance, +10% healing in friendly lands, and 25% more experiance from combat). Again, it is a GG promotion.)

3360 BC: With the advent of metal casting, the Native Americans looked again at the land they had mapped out:

3200 BC: The Viking people, enjoying thier victories in war, decided that they should own slaves. And as a result, many Viking people, and decendants of the Iriqous, were enslaved. This is good for me. Adopting slavery gives a :) boost to all other civs, in the same way Emancipation gave a unhappyness boost to all other civs in BtS

2960 BC: The Native Americans sent out another settling group to the deserts east of thier empire. By the time they arrived, in 2800 BC, the Malinese also decided to enslave some of thier own people, to boost thier economy, at the expense of stability and happyness.

2760 BC: The Vikings completed the first wonder of the world: Stonehedge

2600 BC: The Native Americans developed copper weapons. Unfortuntatly, they couldn't find any significant copper deposits. Fortunatly, they made do, and developed a new type of Axemen which were trained anti-melee people, even though they only used sharpened wood and stone flints! UU discovered. The Dog Soldier is exactly the same as the old Axemen... 4 :strength: instead of 5, +100% vs. melee instead of +50%. However, thier resource-less construction is less of a bonus in AND, because Axemen can now ALSO be built with Obsidian (a new resource). However, I don't have any copper, iron, or obsidian, so I am lucky I can build these UU axes. I lost the last game because I couldn't!!

After this, the sages were told to discover better ways to run a much more expansive empire.

2280 BC: The Aztec City State is discovered.

2080 BC: A new city is founded: Chaco Canyon.

1960 BC: The first ever technology trade. Mysticism and Natropathy (Those techs reveal hemp, tobacco, apple, olives, banana and spices, only the latter is anywhere near the Native American people) from the Russians, in exchange for Agriculture and Fishing.

In addition, a new embassy is founded in the Viking empire, and borders are opened, as the Viking military is edging rather close to Native American empires. This was a gesture of goodwill, and was an attempt to please and placate the Vikings thirst for war.

1880 BC: Unfortunatly this gesture failed. The Vikings invaded the western half of the Native American empire somewhere between 1880 BC and 1860 BC. The Native Americans were caught off guard, as they were expecting any battles to be fought in the northern regions. Two small archer battalions were all that was defending the entire western front, and the war was one-sided. Although the Vikings endured some causalities, they razed both Mound City (1806 BC) and Chaco Canyon (1692 BC) The Native American people were scared. Even though the archers fought bravely, wiping out nearly 75% of the Viking invasion force, they were soundly defeated.

1440 BC: Still recovering from the loss of half of thier territory, the Malinese came to the Native Americans, and demanded their knowledge of Archery. The Native Americans, not wanting to risk another war, agreed. This pleased the Malanese, and so the Native Americans offered their knowledge of another military technology: Bronze Working. All they wanted was Animal Husbandry, Slavery, and Masonry. The Malinese were only too happy to oblige.

1280 BC: The last of the Viking invaders was repulsed from Native American territory around this time. However, the Viking people didn't want peace... they demanded that Poverty point be given over to the Empire of the Vikings. The first Great General of the Native American people, Subutai, responded with the heads of the Viking Spearmen who he had fought. This event founded the first army of Subutai, originally lead by Subutai himself, and then from his descendants. I used this GG to show off the Great Commanders promotions... and man, they are good!!

1160 BC: Between 1200 BC and 1160 BC, two imporant treaties were signed. First, a treaty between the Malinese and the Native Americans, allowing military support and transport through each others territory, as well as starting a new embassy in each others nations, and allowing trade between the two nations. In 1160 BC, a similar treaty was signed with the Russians.

1040 BC: In this year, the Army of Subutai lead a daring, but well-organised raid against the capital of the Vikings: Nidaros. Although they won the battle, they had to retreat before becoming surrounded. There were too many defenders in Nidaros.

However, immediatly after the raid, the Vikings attempted to attack back, but were successfully fought off by the Archers of Cahokia. The army of Subutai was completely successful, and now the tribal leaders of Native America stood proud in thier army.

993 BC: In this year, Chaco Canyon was rebuilt, and renamed to 'Mesa Verde'

965 BC: The Empire of Byzantium is discovered:

And in this year, the Russians threatened the Native Americans with war, if they did not agree to give them their knowledge of sailing. The Native Americans agreed.

951 BC: The Native American empire was in upheaval between 951 and 930 BC 3 turns. The entire governmental and societal structure was ripped up, and changed, as the Native Americans adopted Charity (replacing Survival as the welfare civic, so charities protect the weak, instead of leaving them to fend for themselves), Patritian (replacing Junta as the power civic. Now, instead of people getting into power through military means, they get there from birth), and Prophets. The old people, trying to hold onto the old ways, fought long and hard against the tide of people, but eventually, the new Native American Empire was officially formed in 929 BC

Note: In 944 BC, Subutai was promoted to Morale I, giving a 5% strength boost to all units in the stack

930 BC: The first great person was born in this year: Zoroaster, of the Viking Empire. However, the Native Americans tried thier hardest to prevent him from making the pilgramage to Mohawk, the Kematist holy city. After many decades of running through the tundra, the Native Americans finally tracked him down and killed him, and his descendants in 881 BC. He was 65.

895 BC: The Native Americans found a new city, Snaketown.

860 BC: The Vikings replace thier tribal leaders with a Monarchy.

846 BC: Nagualism is founded in Malinese territory. Nagualism is another cultural-based religion. It is far more potent than Hinduism, however... although thier cities don't produce any culture, and thier temples produce half as much culture as other religions, the great shrine of Nagualism produces 1 :gold: and 2 :culture: for each city following Naugalism. Unique Promotion: Flower Wars (-1 terrain movement cost, +25% forest defence, and 25% less collateral damage)

839 BC: The Sphinx is built, and the Aztec follow the Vikings, and announce a new Monarchy.

825 BC: The first rebellion in Native American territory happens, as Poverty Point encounters a small revolt.

818 BC: The Viking war takes another turn worse for the Vikings, as over 90% of the populace of Mohawk starve to death due to Native American raids on farmland. Mohawk went from size 4 to size 1. In addition, all land trade routes are cut off from the capital, and the leaders of Mohawk start considering independance!

776 BC: Brought on by success after success, deep in Viking Territory, the Native American raids on northern Viking military units allow improved tactics to be employed by the decendants of Subutai. Promoted to Morale II. Now having him in the stack gives a massive 15% strength bonus to EVERY OTHER UNIT in the stack!!

769 BC: Over 200 kilometers away, another, small, Native American raiding party invaded Haithabu, and once the local militia were defeated, the city was razed to the ground.

After this success, the leader of the Army of Subutai went to the King of the Viking Kingdom, and demanded peace. The Viking Kingdom looked at thier ruined and pillaged land, and accepted peace. They offered some sages as slaves, who were routinely freed, and asked to teach them about the secrets of the Vikings. They talked about Fermentation, how to process apples, olives and wines, and how to create beer and ale. They also taught about the priesthood in the Viking Kingdom

Content with this, the Native American Chief talked to his sages, and asked to see if he could make the populace of America a more peaceful place. The sages agreed. The war was over, they had won victorious. And now they simply needed to rebuild thier razed cities. To celebrate peace, however, they held a massive festival in the small township of Spiro, which was founded officially just 3 months prior to peace breaking out.

I am sure people have hundreds of questions, so please ask. That way, I can change this story to suit you guys!

Good story, Started downloading RoM mod halfway through reading it :goodjob: Sounds like a really cool mod.
Just one small question: in the picture showing Poverty Point, one of the last pictures, there are 3 improvements around the city, I'm assuming they are "trading post" as suggested by what your worker is building. So my question is what do these thing do?

Fall From Heaven! The only bad part is that it replaces EVERYTHING out of Civilisation IV, so there isn't anything to start on ... it is less of a mod than a completely new game. But it is still extremely highly recommended!

And 1.72 doesn't have too many bugs. A few components are buggy (and I don't play with them, so if you play with those settings, you should be fine), others are unbalanced (most DCM components are unbalanced. With Naval Bombardment, you can wipe out a persons coastal improvements in one turn. With the component which gives you culture when you win a battle, capturing cities doesn't give you a cultural instability penatly, making warring early and hard surprisingly effective in the long term. Super Spies, the only component I play with, has an unbelievably strong Deception line (Deception II makes your spy almost un-catchable), but most other promotions are almost worthless. However, it is difficult to completely remove super spies, as some buildings also give experiance to your spies, even without super spies). There are also alot of crashes to desktop, but... that isn't too bad. I just set my turns between autosaves to 1 (IE. Autosave every turn), and reload if it crashes.

Also, Trading posts are like uber-cottages. Towns in AND gain a small boost with roads and higher (NOTE: There are 8 levels of roads in AND: Cart Paths, Roads, Paved Roads, Railroads, Highways, Electric Railroads, Mag-levs, and Jump-lanes), but Trading Posts give, on average, about 2 extra :commerce: than a cottage. They can also be built on Forests without destroying the forests. The only downsides is that in the late game they aren't really good (so you need to somehow switch from a Trading Post economy to a cottage economy... something I have never done before), they also cost a small amount of gold to build (ATM it is 2 :gold: per trading post), and they give -1 :food: (Which is why I am only using them on floodplains/plains (which give 4 :food:, 1 :hammers:, 1 :commerce: initially), where as cottages and hamlets give +1 :food:.

The extra food from cottages and hamlets is a bug, caused by one of my modules (probably the Wilderness component), but not a game-breaking one. They used to give a food bonus, but this was removed in 1.72. Hamlets and Towns never gave a food bonus, so cities tended to starve, and in addition, the AI occassionally decided to build cottages *on top of towns*. Apparently.

Oh, and a quick note. Remember how forest preserves and lumbermills are able to be built on forests without the forest being cut down in BtS? Due to the time it normally takes to get to bronze working, a few more improvements can be built on top of forests. These are mines, trading posts, waterwheels, forts/bunkers/command centers, workshops, and possibly a few other improvements which escape me. As a result, there are often more forests in the late game than normal BtS, especially on hills. So sadly, Global Warming appears less often. Which is sad, because it is quite cool now!

Sorry, guys, but apparently version 1.72b is very buggy, causing hangs and stuff in the late Renaissance / early industrial era. So what I will do is download the new 1.73 beta build (which should be, at the very least, more stable around that era), and restart. Again, I will pick a random leader, so we probably won't have Sitting Bull...

Wow. Nice story, too bad about the bugs that you found. Please let us know what you think of the new version, as I may have to replace my 'Legends of Revolutions' MOD and check this one out.

Unfortunatly, I am having extreme difficulty downloading the new version. I don't think it is Sourceforge, but rather my ISP deciding to cap every download over a certain size. And as a result, I constantly lose connection and the download cancels. I haven't got past 3 MB of the 139 MB file yet!!

The story will have to wait...

Starting again. All the settings are the same as in the OP. Also, the speed and difficulty is epic and noble respectively.

6000BC - 796BC: Birth of two nations

6000BC: The Khmer Tribe emerges from nomadic peoples roaming the world. Lead by a Imperialistic and Spiritual Shaman, a bunch of 1000 young men, women and children followed thier leader into thier promices of a great and golden era. No longer would they live on hunter-gathering in the dry barren wastelands around them... they would settle down, and form the first cities.

The initial location was poor, not riverside, so fresh water was a problem. In ROM, and AND, being riverside is important. Irrigation canals come packed with ROM, and give +1 :food: to all riverside tiles, in the medieval era. Alot of buildings (which I haven't installed) also give bonuses to riverside tiles

The tribes travelled to the north-east, towards the river.

Thankyou RNG. I have managed to get probably the WORST civ/leader combo in AND. Imperial: Gives +100% GG bonus (which is really good), and +50% settler/colonalist/pioneer production (which is OK). Spiritual gives a minimum of 2 turns of anarchy (which is rather poor), and double production speed of temples (which is also rather poor). The baray gives +1 :food:, which is neglable in AND (1/3 of a population point), and the Ballista Elephant is VERY dodgy (although if I have ivory, it can occasionally come in useful). This will be quite difficult

5960BC The Khmer create thier first settlement, Yasodharapura. Nothing of interest here... just a few floodplains/plains, and one rice, which is on a hill, negating it's small food bonus. Scouts are sent out, but find mostly desert and plains all around. The shaman, now very old, starts thinking that expansion will be extremely slow.

As her dying request, she asked her fellow sages to find ways to grow food faster, and in much greater quantities.

Tech path is thus:

5640BC At this time, the Khmer allied themselves with a small tribe in the far north. They were only too happy to give the Khmer the secrets of a distant land, over the sea to the north. This land was filled with trees of all kinds, and fertile grasslands!

5600BC The Khmer scouts discover the Mayan tribe, the ancestors of this tribe with the map. They are the inhabitants of the northern continent. Thier nation is a very agricultural nation, with many farmers. They are also extremely skilled with trading and bartering, thanks to thier financial prowess.

5080BC The City State of Maya adopt Prophets

In this year, Khmer scouts discovered a new tribe of people, a scientifically advanced race, who wanted stability and peace. In exchange for relocating them to Khmer territory, the tribal members teach the Khmer people the rituals of thier people.

4920BC The Celtic people are discovered by the Khmer. They are a spiritual and happy civilisation, lead by charismatic leaders.

4760BC The first great meeting of the Tribal Leaders is organised. This meeting discussed the expansion plans of the Khmer people. It was highly effective, and most of the new tribal zones were discussed. In the end, they split into 7 groups, 7 famous leaders known as the Ancestors of modern Khmer. Although they were not promised thier territory immediatly, thier ancestors were promised them by the Great Shaman. The only rivalry was between the two brothers, Kumarito and Liderus. They were not sure of where thier territory should be placed. Kumarito asked for a northern territory, close to thier birthplace, which would be a commercial powerhouse, full of trade. But Liderus was a warrior, and asked for a southern territory.

4640BC A new small tribe of people, in the far, distant south was discovered. In a gesture of goodwill, they trained the scouting party in advanced combat tactics.

4560 BC The City State of America was discovered by the Khmer. Thier scouts were detected by a Javileneer exploration party. They were not a well liked tribe, and thier tribes were hated by the Celts.

In this year, additional and improved mining techniques were learnt. As a result, the Khmer learnt how to detect and mine silver, gold, and gem deposits. This had two effects: The tribe of Kumataro persuaded the tribe of Liderus to give up thier location, and settle north, so that they could mine and sell the vast supplies of silver discovered near there. In addition, the far north-east tribe of Makadariam decided to move thier inheritance north, to mine some gems, and to provide a wall of protection against all the other tribes from invading.

4400BC The Spanish city state was discovered by the Khmer. The Deciever trait gives +2 :espionage: in each city, as well as two free promotions to espionage units (spies, agents, the 007 National Unit, etc. etc). One of these promotions gives a 10% preperation bonus for free (although that may or may not actually work). The other means that whenever a spy is caught, it does NOT give away it's nationality!

This was a time of great exploration, as two more city states were discovered soon after: The Persian city state in 4320BC and the Japanese city state in 4160BC

4080BC Ever since the Khmer had stabalised thier growth with the knowledge of pottery and agriculture, they had been striving to design better weapons. They thought that the earth would give them strong metals for war, like it had given them valuable metals. But once they had determined a possible metal for them to use, it turned out that it didn't appear in high enough quantities to be useful. They could not make metallic weapons.

This is bad... no copper or obsidian anywhere near my territory. Without axes, I am extremely vulnerable. I do have two or three sources of ivory near my borders however, which doesn't make it TOO bad...

The sages worked on a different tact, long range weapons made of wood... archers.

4000BC The Spanish city state adopts Slavery

3760BC The Khmer became the leaders in long-range warfare, being the first people to design and implement archers into thier main army. I recieve a free archer for my troubles

3720BCThe descendants of Kumataro recieved thier inheritance, fulfulling the prophesy. The city was called Hariharalaya. Defences were rapidly constructed, to protect against the hordes of barbarians in the south

3650BC The Illyian pirates appear off the coast of Mayan territory. These pirates, and thier descendants became the bane of the Mayan, Japanese, Celtic and Khmer territories. Thier ships were strong, war-like, and superior to anything any other civilisation could build. They raided and blockaded the ports of many cities for millenia. They became known as the 'sea-people', a bunch of nomadic pirates, plundering and fishing throughout the Mayan sea.

3600BC Stonehedge is created, in a distant land

3560BC The Celtic invention of Writing enabled the first technology trade ever to be completed. In it, the Khmer recieved Naturopathy, Mysticism, and Weaving. They recieved Archery, and the Wheel in return. This unlocks TONS of resources. Olives, Apples, Lemons, Banana, Spices, Hemp, Tobacco, Sheep and Silk. I only have Silk (which is still the most valuable resource around) and Banana nearby.

3280BC The first major religion is founded: Kemetism, in the Celtic City State. To attempt to be taught this religion, open borders are signed between the Khmer and the Celts.

2800BC The knowledge of Elephant riding causes the sages to rethink thier plans. They decide to make living in the Khmer more bearable, as some people are considering rebelling against the state!

2760BC Hinduism is founded in the City State of Persia.

2560BC The territory of Sargon is put on hold, as a barbarian settlement is discovered. The armies of Khmer plan to wage war to seize this holy land. However, first, they decide to expand to the north, to improve thier economy before engaging in war.

2320BC Expansion to the north took many centuries, however, from the south, a barbarian raiding party was spotted. In it, there were 1000 javelineers and 2000 warriors, armed with little more than sharpened sticks. The far more organised Khmer Spearmen battalion met them at Hariharalaya, but not before being equipped with Tower Shields.

There are many conflicting stories of the development of tower shields. Some say the Persians were first to discover them, others say the Khmer were. It is possible that two teams of people discovered them independantly of one another, but regardless, this made the Khmer and Persian spearmen a force unrivaled in the Ancient Era.

2240BC The Khmer founded a new city, a coastal economic city called Angkor Thom.

2160BC The barbarian raiding party arrived at the walls of Hariharalaya. However, they were not strong enough to overcome the Khmer spearmen, and the spearmen were not strong enough to break the Barbarian entrenchement in the forests to the south, and so there was a stalemate which lasted 140 years, until 1920BC, when finally, the Barbarian raiding party was forced from the forests, into the swamps in the South-east. The Khmer military then made short work of the raiding party, completely annihalating them by 1880BC

1720BC The first Monarchy started up in Celtic territory, while the Japanese adopted a new form of organising their society. No longer were people organised by tribe, but instead by 'caste'. People were born into positions and jobs, not organised by tribe!

1560BC The Territory of Mongolita had to be moved, as the Japanese founded a city near it. Attempting to settle another city that close would mean heated war. Instead, they decided to move thier inheritance, moving to the west, onto the Incense.

1120BC The Khmer empires main rival was founded in this year. The Russians seized control of the unruly city of Ainu, and renamed it 'Moscow'. Now the Khmer were scared, as a new organised city was a much bigger threat than unorganised barbarians. Military units were sent down to quell this city state before it became a problem.

958BC After a massive military reorganisation, 7000 spearmen marched to Moscow. This was the largest organised military move in history at this point. However, as soon as they marched into Russian 'territory', and asked the tribal leader of the Russians to give up thier independance to the ARMY_NAME tribe, they refused. The Khmer army then caught the leader, cut off his head, and impaled it on a spear. They were confident that Moscow would fall without a hitch...

Until 951BC just 7 years later. The old military captain of the Russian tribe siezed control of the Russian tribe, and decried a call to arms. Fishing boats, farmers, and carpenters all headed his call, and soon a massive militia was formed. Soon, an army of 7000 spearmen, and a navy of 300 retro-fitted galleys was created and formed. This army was trained brutally, and eventually, allowed to go to war. The Khmer army was now out-numbered and out-supplied, and so they had to retreat.

937BC The first Khmer loss was recorded here, when the leader of the Russian invasion army was killed by the hands of a Barbarian Javilenner. After his death, the army disbanded, and scattered. Without any skilled soldiers in the army, the Russian invasion seemed hopeless.

Nonetheless, the army, now under new leadership, headed back for Moscow, when they discovered that the Russian militia was heading North, to Khmer. 6000 spearmen were in both armies, but the Khmer were protected behind the Red River, and a dense forest.

923BC Nonetheless, despite the odds, a general by the name of Charles Martel lead the Russians to a near defeat, despite overwhelming odds. 5800 Russian spearmen were killed, including the disbanding of 4 of the spearmen battalions, to only 2100 of the Khmer spearmen. However, the Khmer still managed to lose 2 battalions, due to the daring raids and cunning skills of Charles Martel. He was given a place of honour in Moscow for foiling the Khmer plans.

902BC Disappointed by the current state of affairs, the Tribal leaders of the Khmer decided that they would change thier nation to improve thier economy, and ignored the efforts of the Russian Invasion team, which was officially announced a failure. Charities were set up, the folklore of old were replaced with the Tribal Prophets of old, and people were forced to learn from them, and not thier own animist teachings. A new elite group of rulers, the Patricians, were set up to rule over the Plebians, instead of the strong simply getting thier way over the weak. The weak were slightly less oppressed, but the strong were not happy. However, the strong followed the will of the Great Shaman, and the disruption was short, only 14 years.

888BC In this year, the Russians managed to win yet another surpring victory. Despite being hidden in forests and behind a river, the Russian army managed to flank a battalion of spearmen, and burn down the forest. The ensuing forest fire meant that the spearmen battalion was trapped between a river and a forest-fire, but the remainder of the Russian army was behind the river. Unfortunatly, 1000 Khmer troops were destroyed, an entire battalion, to the flames and the Russian spears.

However, it was at this time, when the nation was just emerging from chaos and darkness, and the Russian invasion army was down to just 4000 souls, that a charismatic prophet arrived at the front lines... Filling them full of morale and a religious fervor that this land belonged to them and belonged to Sargon; the spearmen charged straight over the river into a far more well-trained army of spearmen. But the Khmer had numbers... 4000 versus just 1200. They were overwhelmed, despite poor odds, and emerged victorious. The Russians counter attacked in 881 BC. However they were not able to fully overwhelm them, and even The Great Battalion of Timur was defeated by the Khmer spearmen.

Due to thier bravery and success, the Khmer Great Shaman announced the formation of the army of Sargon. However, they were told to retreat, as only 1800 spearmen, in two battalions had survived the attack and counter attack. The Russians had won that war, but at a great cost.

874 BC Nagara Jayasri was founded, and fulled with the descendants of Mongolita.

867 BC In Osaka, unruly members of the Lower Caste rose up, and took Osaka by force. Once they had captured the town hall of Osaka, they announced thier name and leader: Wang Kon of the Korean Rebels of Osaka. The Khmer vowed to keep seperate of Japanese internal strife, but nonetheless traded with them, acquiring Masonry, Priesthood and Sailing from them, for Archery and Writing. The Koreans were grateful for this method to further bolster the defenses of Osaka.

860BC Persian Bronze working knowledge was passed down to the Khmer, as well as Persian knowledge of Sailing. However, the Persians wanted to be taught Mathematics.

846BC The last reminants of the Silver in the northern silver mine of Hariharalaya was mined out in this year. The mine was still providing raw materials, so it was determined that it would keep being in operation.

832BC Hinduism spread to Hariharalaya, and the Khmer Tribal leaders decided that they should also follow the teachings of this polytheistic religion. Anarchy ensued, as the people resisted this second changing of thier beliefs within 200 years. But they fought less, only for 7 years.

827BC Stability is made, and the Great Wall is made in a truely distant land (I cannot see the Great Wall graphics anywhere

804BC Persian Iron Working skills are requested, and the Persians agree... but only if the Khmer give the knowledge of Elephant Riding and Chariotry. The Khmer agree... but only if the Persians give them the knowledge of how to control and treat Slaves. This deal is acceptable, and the Khmer discover that they have two sources of Iron!!

Realising that they now have a strong, sturdy weapon to equip thier soldiers with, the Khmer Shaman requested that the Iron deposits be exploited throughly, and a new military be built to take control of Russia. With improved weapons and competant leadership, surely nothing could stop the Khmer advance...

End of session.

Militarily, I am far better than I have ever been! That said, I am normally where Persia or America are on the graph, so that isn't much to be proud of.

Demographics are very good too! Not bad for one of the worst civs in the game!! I am very worried about that mystery civ with the GNP of 122, whereas I only have a GNP of 50...

Wonder situation is... normal. Persia owns alot of Great wonders, but the Khmer have a city in the top 5, which is cool.

Diplomatically, I am fine. No real enemies except for Russia (of course). Technologically, Khmer is superior to all others, except, maybe, the Persians:

Questions? And yes, I know that my spelling and grammer is atrocious. I have to balance this with my assignments, and I can't be bothered thinking. Plus, I like commas.

796BC - 328BC: The Russian War, Part 1

790BC Nagualism is founded in a distant land, however no leaders are persuaded to convert. Thus, Nagualism is now a underground religion, followed by a small minority ... somewhere.

783BC The Rebels of Osaka make peace with Japan, after 84 years of constant rebellion. The rebels were allowed to keep thier captured city.

In this year, the Russians also managed to perform a brilliant manoever, lead by Nebuchadrezzer II, with 2000 spearmen, completely routing half of the Sargon army. The Sargon army, now down to only 1000 spearmen, retreated to the Tovaran Hamlet, to the north east. Nebuchadrezzer became a celebrated war hero in his home town of Moscow.

This raiding party traveled to the north-west however, avoiding the remainder of the Sargon army. They traveled to the rich iron deposits near Hariharalaya. Although they could have pillaged the mines, and stopped the production of Khmer war-axes for several decades, they chose not to, instead traveling in a northern direction towards thier capital: Yasodharapura.

However, the Sargon army chose this time to reinforce the iron mines, and asked the 11th Spearmen battalion of Yasodharapura to defend them. They agreed, and joined the Sargon army. They set up a small barricade in the caves of the iron mines, and waited.

The Russian army, seeing thier tactical blunder, turned around and attacked the mine. The Sargon army held, with approximately equal losses on either side (1000 Russians to 1150 Khmer) in 713BC

The Russian army, now cut off from the Russian mainland, headed north-east to the banana huts of Yasodharapura. The Sargon army pursued them, but when the Russians decided to pillage the cart paths, and cut off all land trade routes for most of Khmer, the Sargon army caught up to them, and destroyed them in a simple battle in 699BC.

769BC The Mayans adopt Kemetism as thier state religion. The Kemetist religious bloc now consisted of 4 nations, out-numbering the Hindu nations. Japan and Russia still followed the Pagan rituals of old at this time.

762BC Disorganised rebels rose up against the Japanese City State. Seeking autonomous control, like the Koreans, these rebels rose up against the restrictive and inept Japanese Government.

692BC The Khmer started minting thier first coins, becoming the first civilisation to use currency to trade goods, instead of simply bartering for goods, or trading people for goods. The complete economic change caused a small amount of disruption, but the production rates of the Khmer exceeded their old production rates by 685BC

In this year, disorganised rebels attempted to capture a Mayan city.

685BC The first non-tribal city was set up. Rajavihara was set up by a group of
Makadariam off-spring who refused to believe that the Great Shaman could possibly grant them a territory in the middle of Japanese territory. So they founded Rajavihara.

678BC In this year, Shipping through the Mayan sea was cut off by Illyian pirates. This had a devastating impact on the Mayan economy, but there was more of an impact in the Khmer nation. The entire supply of iron, ivory, elephants, and many other resources was cut off from the capital, so axemen production was suddenly stopped as they ran out of iron. In the other cities, the loss of direct control from the Great Shaman lead many to start questioning her wisdom and knowledge.

However, control, and iron, was restored in 657 BC as a road was built to connect greater Khmer with the river that ran through Yasodharapura.

664BC The Persian City State started preparing for war, with everyone, by adopting a new leadership structure. The Persians promoted thier old tribal leader, and announced him Despot of all Persia. To aid in his military production rate, they adopted a Republic to oversee production of military units, however this made many people unhappy.

643BC The Japanese Chief converted to Kematism, and allied himself with the Celtic bloc.

636BC The Persians, the leaders of the world in technological achievements, asked for the knowledge of currency. In exchange, they offered a very large sum of gold (210 gold) and the knowledge of Polytheism.

622BC The army of Sargon engaged a tiny Russian spearmen scouting party. Complete victory was the result. This was the first time Axes were used in battle. Sargon is promoted to Morale I at this point

608BC The Celts and the Japanese declare war on the Koreans. As the Celts have an army nearly twice the size of the Koreans, but the Koreans own half as many cities, the war looked like it would take several centuries to get anywhere. Nonetheless, the Koreans were extremely outnumbered

594BC Another raid. This time, The Sargon Army Generals worked between two fronts, moving between the two fronts on thier own personal War Elephants. The army was moving through a dense forest, but the Khmer war axes were very well trained, and they were both running under the Banner of Sargon. The battle was the complete destruction of the Russian raiding party.

Micheal De Ruyter oversaw this action, as the Sargon Prime Chief at the time. He decided to leave the front after that, and settle in the capital, founding a small training camp for all soldiers to train on. The Ruyter training camp was a well-organised structure, which provided much-needed skill to the Axemen being trained. Settled this GG in the capital, for +2XP and +1 GPT (From the Patrician specilist bonus)

587BC The Korean Empire rose up against the Japanese oppressors, as they fought for freedom. Rebel spearmen captured Tokyo, and razed it to the ground.

573BC The Sargon army wipes out a tiny Barbarian Javileneer raiding party in the south.

566BC Advanced American ship building techniques are given to the Khmer, in exchange for Chariotry. A small amount of gold to the Khmer helped seal the deal. I got Naval Warfare and 50 Gold. Naval Warfare unlocks Triremes, the best combat ship for probably a millenia

559BC The army of Sargon is attacked by 2000 seemingly suicidal Russian soldiers. These soldiers were wiped out in a matter of hours. Sargon is promoted to Morale II, for a +15% strength boost

In addition, Korea made peace with Japan. Japan lost another war against it's own people.

552BC The Persians teach the Khmer thier calander system, as well as a method to control thier people. The Khmer were researching of thier own Code of Laws, but they found the Persian one was much more consise and efficent. However, the Persians demanded the knowledge of Construction, and a small gold fee, which the Khmer gave back.

538BC The Sargon army marches into Russia to attack Moscow

531BC The loss of Tokyo meant that no-one followed Kemetism inside Japanese territory. With no support, Japan decided that they should follow the teachings of Naugalism. At the same time, America decided to rule over different territories by adopting Vassalage, while looking over it's elite rulers by adopting Bourgouis. All this was minor, compared to the winds of change that swept through Spain, Instituting both a new Senate, a new currency, and focusing it's efforts of society to the elite class, at the expense of the working class.

524BC The old Russian tribal army, which used to be lead by Nebuchadrezzer II was found to be garrisoned inside Moscow. The defenders were mostly archers, which only a few axemen had been trained to fight effectively. After sending in the best anti-archer axemen they could find, the army of Sargon was forced from Moscows borders. Only 1000 Russian archers died, but nearly 800 Khmer Axemen also fell. Seeing that any more combat would weaken the Army of Sargon, the Khmer general ordered a tactical withdrawl. Even when the garrison mostly left in 517BC, the Army of Sargon did not attack, as there were still too many archers.

496BC A tornado wiped out all the mine shafts to the surface of the Hariharahaya iron mines. Over 300 people were killed, or were missing after that devastating disaster. However, this only made the iron mines in Angkor Wat richer, as it was providing all the Iron in the empire.

486BC The Washington pact was signed, which announced free and uninterupted trade and military support through Khmer and American lands.

461BC The Khmer finally realise that they could rule through the people, after an efficent method of Democracy is researched. The sages at that time were told to research a new method of ruling over the religious folk, and a way to spread Hinduism effectively, while the Mathematicians were told to design new structures for the Khmer cities.

However, this discovery lead to a rebellion and a revolt which lasted 21 years. At the end of it, Khmer was now a Republic, a Senate had been set up, and the working class were favored. This annoyed some leaders like the Spanish, who did not like the fact that the working class were favored, over the elite and rich people.

454BC Russia, however, moved in the opposite direction. The Chief of the time ordered to be called a Despot, and focused on city defence, at the expense of the regular people. However, the Sargon army, in tandem with a Ballista Elephant battalion from Angkor Wat, defeated a small army of Russian spearmen in Russian forests, to the North east of Moscow.

433BC The Celts persuade Khmer to declare war on the Korean rebels. As they are quite far from Khmer and rather weak, the Khmer accept.

412BC The battle of Moscow was fought.
Belligerents: Khmer Republic vs. The Empire of Russia
Army size:
Khmer
1000 Ballista Elephants
4000 Axemen
1000 Spearmen
Russia

4000 Spearmen
1000 Archers

Despite out-gunning, out-skilling and outnumbering the Russians, the Russian defences of Moscow were very effective, more effective than even the best Khmer defences of the time. As a result, the Khmer encountered heavy losses.

The Khmer lost 256 Ballista Elephants and 3240 Battle Axes, including one of its prized Generals. However, Moscow was captured and razed, displacing 1000 Russian civilians, who fled into the wilderness. Satisfied the Russian threat had been neutralized, the descendants of Sargon founded thier city: Isvanapura. They had fought for 539 years against the Russians for this prize, and they had earned it.

However, the Russians were not allowed to go in peace just yet. The Khmer scouts had discovered a source of Iron to the south of the Russian Empire. The Sargon Army was dispatched to the south to raid it, and permanently cut off thier iron supply. However, they had been misinformed... no iron mining project had been started yet, however they still travelled south to pillage Russia.

Sargon is promoted to Morale III, for +30% strength total. However, for the next few promotions I will be getting Tactics I / and then the promotion that increases his command points (IE. The maximum amount of experiance he can gain each turn. ATM, it is 5, but it can be increased significantly!)

391BC The Khmer research a method to build vast public works, and as a result, thier entire empire changes. Gone are the old state-funded charities, now the State itself cares for it's people by building many great projects. The old ways of Prophets are removed, and the state now managed the Hindu temples in Khmer. The Great Shaman was losing power, and the people were gaining power.

377BCThe Celts teach the Khmer improved battle tactics, and improved methods to train soldiers. In exchange, the Khmer teach the Celts about the idea of thier only being one god, and give them carpenters who know how to build skillful chariots. The Celts are more willing to negotiate now, even though they worshiped different groups of gods, they had the same enemies, and the trades pleased both the Celts and the Khmer.

356BC This was an eventful year for many nations. America became a more free country, implementing a currency system as well as a new Senate, and the state worked on creating infrastructure, instead of going through charities. However, Spain geared up for war, removing charities from power, and forcing all new projects to go through the despotic leader at the time. The Great Lighthouse was built, and a massive volcanic eruption near Barcelona in Spain caused thousands of deaths.

342BC The Americans told the Khmer about even more advanced methods of Seafaring, and tought them about a way to sacrifice animals to bring divine salvation. All the Khmer did was teach the Americans how to ride Elephants, which they enjoyed.

In this year, the Sargon Army invaded the territorial claim of St. Petersburg, wiping out 1000 spearmen (at the cost of 800 axemen), and taking control of a mine. Over the next few years, the army would pillage and destroy the infrastructure outside of St. Petersburg. However, the generals of the time realised that St. Petersburg would likely be un-assailable. The defences were too strong, and the city was on top of a cliff on a massive hill. The archers defending the city were reasonably well trained and equipped, and they outnumbered the Sargon army 2 to 1. The Great Shaman at the time said that someday, the Khmer would conquer the city of St. Petersburg, but the military generals laughed, and threw her out of the Plebeians level of the Senate offices.

End of Session. Not bad, I conquered most of Russia, and I am still a significant military and scientific threat in the world. Conquering it is looking rather difficult, however... I will be fighting a land war in Asia!! Here is a bunch of graphs for you guys to look at. Have fun!! Any questions?

The attached save is one turn AFTER this ending... I have just researched Seige Weapons, as well as some other things which can come in handy later...

I assume the ~200 views means someone is reading this...

328BC - 64AD: The Russian War, Part 2

With bonus 21 years FREE!!

321BC The Sargon army continued to raid and plunder Russian lands, despite the Russians best efforts of defending. A lack of an organised military meant they could not fight back, as thier main army had been wiped out in the battle for Moscow.

However, in this year, Buddhism was founded, the fourth religion in this world wracked by war. Buddhism is a very shrine/cultural religion. Its shrine gives an unbelievable +1 :gold:, +2 :culture: for each city, and it has 2 world wonders, one which gives +5% :culture: in all cities (amongst other things), and another which gives a wide variety of bonuses. However, the cities which follow them produce no extra culture, and the temple produces one less culture (but also provides 1 more :health:!) Unique promotion is: Zen, a pathetic promotion (It is march, with an additional +1 visibility range and Immunity from first strikes)

251BC With no headway being made in the Russian front, due to a lack of seige equipment, the Senate of Khmer decided to found another territory, this time close to Korean territory. It was extremely well defended (The only way to the city was through The Blazing Deserts. After that, they would need to scale the walls of the city, and then they would need to hold the city. It was filled with the second to last tribe to get it's inheritance, the tribe of Makadariam. This was the smallest tribe, as most had left to go to Rajavihara. However, the few remaining people founded Banteay Kdei.

Note the desert to the north-east, the only way in. In AND (and possible RoM), deserts both take 2 movement to move into, and give a -25% defence bonus. Thus, any unit will get stuck in The Blazing Deserts, and any army stationed in Banteay Kdei will be able to rip them up. Oh, and it is a choke-point, the only northern way into Khmer. This is the best defencive city ever!

244BC Trade relations with America grew, and Khmer started importing American dyes and Gems. Khmer gave the Americans Ivory and Sugar in exchange.

223BC The 223BC census determined that the number of Khmer now exceeded 500,000! In addition, the Koreans objected to the formation of Banteay Kdei, and invaded Khmer with 2000 spearmen to raze it. They were wiped out by the Axemen garrison nearby. This persuaded the Koreans to make peace with the Khmer, and the Khmer accepted, wanting to focus purely on the Russians.

195BC Celtic olives were imported into the Khmer nation. In exchange, the Khmer gave the Celts stone.

The Sargon army got 1000 Ballista Elephants from the Senate, and was told to travel south to pillage all of Russia

167BC Christianity was founded in this year. It was a minor religion, like buddhism, and no senates, despots, Kings, Queens or Chiefs honoured the religion.

Christianity is... interesting. It is always a minor religion (!) But if you follow it, you gain access to one of the more powerful wonders in the game: King Richards Crusade. This is the only wonder that spawns FREE units, and it will continue to do so for as long as you don't research Liberalism. The free units are nasty... if you beeline them, they can come at, or even before, Longbows. They are 15 :strength: units (About comparable to Macemen or Heavy Swordsmen, which come in the late Medieval/Early-reineccance era), and have 2 movement, as well as the Crusader and Lead By Warlord promotions (Crusader gives "Can use city roads", +25% city attack, and +100% :gold: from pillaging). They are truely terrifying units to behold, especially if you beeline it, and use a GE on the wonder! But you have to deal with rebellions, and adopt a religion no-one else does. The churches also give +1 :) Unique promotion is "Crusader" (If you have the fundimentalism tech) which is the promotion that crusaders get for free. Best ... warring ... religion ... EVER. Confusism is still better though :P

160BC The Mayans declared war on the Korean city state, no doubt bribed by the Japanese.

146BC Now massively outnumbered, Osaka (owned by the Koreans) was captured by the Celts. This meant that Banteay Kdei was now no longer bordering the Koreans.

132BC The Japanese Despot converted to Kematism, to further ally with the Celts. The Russians followed suit, in 125BC

125BC The Mayan Republic, in a desperate bid to protect it's citizens, allowed the Incan Kingdom to be formed, and gifted it the Mayan city of Lakamum

In this year, the Khmer Republic was in chaos. The Russians had amassed a large amy of spears, and was marching to the north-west, towards Isvarapura. The defences in Isvarapura were pathetic, and the Sargon army was trapped too far south to assist... the Khmer ordered the treasurer to quickly fund the training and production of two longbow armies, to replace the current archer armies protecting Isvarapura.

118BC The Mayans convert to Hinduism, much to the pleasure of the Persians and the Khmer, but the Celts were not impressed in the slightest.

However, in this year, the Russian spearmen army tried to attack the Sargon Army. This was a terrible mistake, as the Sargon army was far more skilled and prepared than the small Russian militia. Once that counter-attack was over, the Sargon army marched north to pick up a siege contingent, which would allow them to capture St. Petersburg.

Sargon is promoted to Tactics I. Now, for the first 5 battles the stack endures in a turn, the units get +30% strength and +15% withdrawl chance. Note that that is what command points do... if Sargon gets no command points, he still gains XP for combat, but all the other units LOSE thier bonuses. At this point in the game, I didn't know that

97BC The navy of Khmer is founded, as the first War Galley is made in Banteay Kdei. In this year, the Persians declared war on the Celts. No real reason was understood, however the two nations were about equally strong.

90BC The Korean Insurgency was ended in this year, as the Celts invaded and captured the last Korean stronghold: Seoul.

83BC The Khmer census announces that the population has doubled in just 140 years. It now supports one million people. But the war between Persia and Celtia got more confusing, as the Americans joined in on the war against the Celts, and the Japanese, now rid of it's Korean enemies, declared war on the Persians.

76BC The leader of Spain was pursuaded to adopt it's own home-grown religion: Buddhism. Just 9 years later, Hellenism was founded.

Hellenism is known as 'The Greek Religion', and is very scientific in nature. In fact, it is the most scientific of all the religions. Hellenism's shrine (The Statue of Zeus), gives +1 :beakers:, and +1 :culture: for every religion which follows it. Thier monestary gives thier unique promotion to free for every unit which is built in that city. And the Partheon now gives a science and culture boost for all Hellenistic buildings (+1 :beakers:, +1 :culture:) in addition to it's old +50% GP birth rate. As a result, Hellenism is a very scientific religion. It's unique promotion, Pankrathon, is unusual. Unlike other unique promotions, Pankrathon CANNOT be recieved from experiance (only from thier monestary), and it also doesn't require the nation to follow Hellenism! However, it gives +5% strength, a 20% upgrade discount, and additional strength bonus against melee, archery, recon, and gunpowder units.

62BC The Persians capture Tokora from the Celts.

41BC Confident that the Japanese pose no threat, when the Americans asked for Khmers support in thier war, the Khmer agreed, and a war started between the Japanese and the Khmer.

To help each other in this war, the Americans shared technologies with the Khmer. The Khmer recieved improved ship-building techniques, the and the knowledge of sculpture and atheletics. The Americans only recieved the knowledge of Khmer Construction techniques.

Finally, in this year, the Sargon army made it's march to St. Petersburg, invading Russian territory in full force, with a seige battalion as well.

27BC Scared for thier nation, the Russians ordered thier small army of spearment to fight against the Sargon army. Expectedly, they were defeated horribly. 2000 chariots, 2000 spearmen, and 1000 archers were wiped out in that battle, and the Khmer losses didn't even number 100.

Sargon is promoted to Tactics II, giving +15% withdrawl chance, for 30% total

The city of St. Petersburg was placed under a long seige.

6BC The seige of St. Petersburg was released, and the Sargon army invaded the Russian city.

Belligerents: Khmer Republic vs. The Empire of Russia
Army size:
Khmer
1000 Ballista Elephants
5000 Axemen
1000 Pikemen
300 Catapults
Russia
1000 Spearmen
5000 Archers

1AD The final city of the old tribes was founded, Jayendranagari, lead by the Great Shaman herself. This city became the shrine for the old ways, and announced a new era in the life of the Khmer. The shamans prophesy, over 4000 years ago, had come true, and all the tribes had acquired it's inheritance.

However, the war against the Russians was not going so well. The people, the plebians on the street, did not see the Russian Empire as a threat, and they started openly objecting to the continued warfare. The military of Khmer did it's best to control the situation, but strikes started appearing in the Khmer capital.

8AD The Mayans opened thier borders from across the Mayan sea. This was a sign of trust that greatly improved relations between thier two nations.

15AD The hero of the Celtic army, the Warchief Alforica, was spotted on the Blazing Desert. His rage was unmatched, and his ability to turn a city into a smoking ruin was legendary. His exploration through the Khmer empire started in this year, however he died while on this voyage. Diplomatic tensions ran high, especially since the Khmer were trading with the Persians, who the Celts were fighting a hot war with.

29AD The Japanese and the Khmer made peace, and the Japanese admitted thier defeat.

36AD The Americans created a new structure of leadership, the Apostolic Palace. Headed by Hindu people all over the world, the American delegation of Theologians faced off against the Khmer delegation, to see who would rule the Hindu world. However, despite 7 years of discussions, the Khmer were alone, and no-one voted for them.

Also, the Khmer discovered the Incans, the people who fought for independance from the Mayans:

Diplomacy went off on the wrong foot, after blunder after blunder with the Incan ambassador.

50AD The last Russian stronghold, Cimmerian, was placed under siege by the Khmer Sargon Army. Thier allies the Celts, attempted to negotiate a peace, before they were all wiped out, but the Khmer refused, knowing that if they made peace, they would have to defend on two fronts.

By 57AD Thier defences had fallen, and the Sargon army launched many offensives. However, the leader at the time "Known as Korbitall, the Stunted", decided to personally oversee each offensive. Although losses were minimal, it took much longer than if he ordered his generals to help him. As a result, the Russians were not defeated until 64AD. The war was over. The Khmer had won, and the Russians were pushed into the wilderness to fight for themselves, or they travelled north to Khmer to become Khmer citizens. The city of Cimmerian was razed to the ground.

And Sargon is promoted to Operations I, now giving him 5 more command points (IE. the bonuses are applied for 5 more attacks / defences), as well as an additional operational range (IE. he can manage wars from 2 tiles away, instead of just 1).

78AD The Russians were not the only people to be wiped out, however. The Japanese were wiped out just 11 years later, by an offensive by the American people. Satsuma was the last Japanese territory, and it was obliterated.

85AD Pre rup was founded, on the eastern coast of the Continent of Khmer.

End of session. The Russians and Japanese are defeated, now all that needs to happen is the Sargon army moves north and (after the southern tip is colonised), invade Celtic-occupied Japan/Korea. Demographics are... OK I guess. The Americans made a few more wonders, but the Persians own the best city. And the Khmer are MILES behind the American, the celts and the Persians in terms of military power. The next order of buisness is expansion, followed closely by military production. But as I said before, we are in a very defensible position.

[Edit]Oh yes, and BTW, I use the following conversion rates to determine the 'sizes' of the 'armies'.

1 Infantry unit (without any machine or animal support): 1000 people. (Eg. 1000 rifleman = 1 battalion)
1 Mounted unit : 500 people
1 Mechanized unit (Tanks, seige units, and including all Assault Mech units): 100 people
Transport ships, triremes, and caravels: 100 ships
All other ships: 1 ship. (So a Battleship unit ingame represents just 1 battleship in 'real life')
Air units: 48 planes.

This will mean modern warfare will have tiny armies, but oh well... that isn't too bad ;)

Expansion of Korea: 85AD-518AD

92AD After many millenia of unity within the Sargon Army, the army splits up. Most of the army travels to the far north, to Banteay Kdei, to reinforce the city against any invaders. However, around 2000 axemen travelled further south to the southernmost regions of the continent of Korea, to prevent any uprisings of the Russians against the power of the Khmer.

In this year, the Persians and the Celts made peace with one another

113AD With the knowledge of Engineering practically solved by the Khmer scientists, the Senate of Khmer decided that it would be best for the nation if they could create vast canals to irrigate more land. They already know how to make small canals, but a vast canal network would be very benificial to the dry and desolate Khmer swamps and plains.

120AD The decendants of the Russians, long reduced to squabbling bands of nomads and disorganised barbarians, made an uneasy peace. A small band of 1000 swordsmen were sent north to pillage and grow the Russian empire, but before they could, the attempted uprising was quelled and destroyed.

134AD The Apostolic Palace voted to open borders with everyone. However, although this resolution passed, the Khmer never opened thier borders with the Spanish, as they did not have an embassy. Interesting bug... the Open Borders resolution will pass, but since I don't have an embassy with the Spanish, I cannot sign an open borders agreement (Because in AND, Open borders requires an Embassy to be set up)

In this year, Vimayapura was founded, a stones throw from the ruins of Cimmerian. This resettlement allowed a recount of the census, which pushed the Khmer people just above 2 million people.

183AD The Incan Monarchy converted to Buddhism, switching thier allegance from the Celts to the weaker Spaniards.

197AD The American people taught the Khmer about civil service, and how to run a Bureaucracy. The Khmer liked this so much, that the immediately scrapped the senate, and replaced it with the great Khmer Bureaucracy. In addition, to greatly improve their relations with all the other civilisations, who were focusing on the elite, the Khmer started to ignore the Proleterant, and focused on the Bourgouis.

The Spaniards, however, adopted a new Senate to replace thier old ways which were focused on the merchants and the wealthy people. They also adopted a revolutionary new, more organised economic system: Guilds. Now people would join a guild to learn the craft they wanted.

A quick side-note about guilds. Normally, I stick to guilds forever, because with guilds, corperatist, and Patrician, corperations have thier maintanance SLASHED by 95%. There are drawbacks, including massive *regular* maintainance increases in prices, and slightly increased destability. As a result, I won't be adopting these three, and instead will adopt (probably) merchantile, and raze any corperation headquarters (as that will mean I will have to pay maintanance costs for my 'local' corperations. I could adopt Planned, but that just seemed to be a HORRIBLE civic ... sure there are no corperation costs, but in 'exchange' for not getting any benifits from corperations, you get increased city distance maintanance, decreased gold income in all cities, increased instability, no foriegn trade routes, reduced numbers of trade routes. But at least your plantations, pastures and workshops are slightly better. Pity that they are still not as good as Dense Industry >.> On the plus side, you get +20% :hammers: in all cities too...

218AD The Khmer bureaucracy finally established itself, but unfortunatly, the citizens were not happy. Now the old agoras which used to give much pride to the Proleterant, now fell into disrepair, and started making the people unhappy. Other, small things, didn't help, and now a quarter of the residents of the capital refused to work. The Khmer Bourgouis started off on the wrong foot.

225AD Taoism was founded, but no leaders wanted to adopt such a minor religion at that time.

Taoism is an... interesting religion. When the great god of RoM was handing out benifits to all the other gods, Lao-tsu slept in. The shrine is completely un-inspiring, thier temples only give an additional health (although the cities that follow it gain an un-matched amount of culture: 4 :culture:), and they get a Great Wonder which gives (amongst other things) 2 free priests, and 1 free population in every city. However, thier monostary gives the Martial Arts promotion (the Taoist unique promotion) to every unit that is built in it. Is it as cool as 'Pantheon'? No. It gives +20% vs. melee units (the equivelent of shock I), doesn't require a great general and... is only available to OTHER melee units, making it WORSE than Shock. It has an odd requirement though... you need to have researched Meditation before you can promote your units to Martial Arts, despite one of the three required techs to research Philosophy (which grants Taoism) IS Meditation.

232AD The last Khmer district to be founded on Korea was founded in this year: Lingapura. It was built on a peat bog, in a swamp, which needed to be cleared out by an extensive canal system before the first foundations could be filled, which meant that settlement of Lingapura was delayed by nearly 50 years, while the bog was fully drained.

246AD The Persian inquisition started, as the Persians became intolerant to any other religion. Note: Intolertant is less like Theocracy in BtS (although it has some similar aspects), and more like Fundamentalism in Civ III and prior (including -50% scientific advancement, and a massive increase in XP for all units built in cities with the religion, as well as a production boost for military units. The only problem is that other religions can completely destabilize your empire, even more than usual, but that is what Inquisitors are for ;)

253AD The Khmer, being Hindu as well, did not mind this atrocity too much, and in fact made the largest trade deal ever. The Khmer gave the Persians the knowledge of canal systems and crop rotation, both of which allowed the Persian farms to be highly productive. In exchange, the Persians gave them many simple technologies: Smithing, Cloud Patterns, Horseback Riding, Drama, Theology and Music. In addition, Persia pledged to vote for Khmer interests in the next AP meeting, and in addition, granted them a large amount of gold, which was good, because the Khmer economy was starting to crumble, due to thier rampant over-expansion.

295AD The gem deposits deep in Celtic territory became Khmer territory, once the miners revolted and joined the Khmer people. This displeased the Celts who worried about thier close borders, but pleased the Khmer, who enjoyed the new luxury good.

316AD However, the Celtic inquisition started as a direct result of this, as the Celts prepared for war. The old Republic was disposed in a violent coup, as the new fanatical despot took over control of the Celtic Republic. The senate remained in power, so the nation still answered only to the title 'Celtic Republic', but the Khmer called it the 'Fundamentalist Celtic Dictatorship'

337AD The Khmer exported technologies for cash and economic stimuli for many centuries, as thier economy was not able to support thier massive size. However, in 337AD, a new form of iron was discovered: Wootz Steel. This made for sharper blades and stronger armour for everyone in the Khmer Military. Wootz Steel gives a +15% strength bonus BTW

357AD By now, the diplomats in Khmer were becoming well known, as they pursuaded the Mayans to vote for them in the Apostolic Palace, by simply giving them the technology for improved windmills and watermills. The Mayans also gave them an economic stimuli package, as well as the knowledge of Guilds.

This pursuaded the Khmer to make its second large governmental change in 200 years, introducing the improved economic structure given to them by the Mayans, and also replacing the Charities role with the support of Hindu Temples. Now the Hindu people looked after the poor and needy.

These rapid changes in governmental positions were breaking apart the Khmer nation, however:

And in 386AD the people of Isvarapura started complaining about the loss of freedom the common people had!

This is going to be my downfall, I trust you. Not this rebellion (the construction of the Silk Road Great Wonder will be enough to keep it safe) but this screen. This screen appears when the people of one of my territories say 'screw this ****' and start making more and more outragous demands. If I refuse thier demands (including changing civics, or allowing them to become independant states), then they may rise up with highly promoted (albiet injured) units.

If I don't play my game extremely well, then I will have wide-spread rebellion over the entire planet, and when that happens, then my military will be spent CONSTANTLY defending against rebellion after rebellion.

Thus, the late game will be... fun. :D

393AD The Khmer started up a new, highly profitable, trade route, from the silk fields of Khmer, all over the medieval world. This 'Silk Road' pleased the citizens of Isvarapura, and they accepted the new government.

400AD Islam was founded, but again, it became a minority religion. Note: Islam is worrying... someone already managed to research Education! However, Islam is an interesting economical religion. Its temples give an additional :), following the religion gives +1 :gold: in each city (and the shrines give +1 :gold: for each city following Islam too), and the wonder acts like another Forbidden Palace. (You can have 5 palaces in AND... The Palace, The Forbidden Palace, Versailles, The Islam Great Wonder (requires Islam AND expires at Railroad), and Edinburughs Castle (expires with Nationalism, but comes with Engineering, which the Khmer have) Unique Promotion: Mujahid. +15% strength, Garrisoned city 15% less likely to revolt, and +15% vs. Mounted and Melee units. However, it is only available to pre-gunpowder units.

418AD A great Hurricane hit the developing city of PreRup. The loss of life was minimal, but the fishermans hut was completely wrecked, slowing growth of this new city.

427AD The Celts declared war on the Spanish. The Spanish were unprepared, and weak, but still put up a good fight. In 454AD The Spanish captured Osaka, which allowed the Khmer territory of Banteay Kdei to expand further. The Spanish were the fourth nation to control the territory of Osaka (originally it was Japanese, then the Korean Rebels seized it as thier first territory, and then the Celts captured it in thier final war against the Koreans, and now the Spanish grabbed it). However, this success was short-lived, Barcelona, of the Spanish empire, was captured by the Celts in 463AD. In 472AD A small band of 1000 Celtic crossbowmen attempted to raid the captured city of Osaka. Lead by Cao Cao, the greatest military genius of his age, they succeeded in battle after battle. Even after the seige equipment was destroyed in 490AD, Cao Cao, now in his forties, continued to win successful raids over and over again. As of 508AD The battle for Osaka was still raging.

In this year, the first of all the guilds, the Equestrians Guild was founded. Guilds are like corperations, but corperations now come with awesome buildings that give massive boosts to your cities. Guilds don't, so they are exactly like BtS corperations, except a little weaker. Equestrians guild consumes nothing, and provides horses and +4 :hammers:

445AD The Khmer start building many libraries to help record the history of all the Khmer lore and stories. This effort allowed many facts to be compiled for history books in the future.

472AD Invited by the Americans, the Khmer made thier third governmental switch in 300 years, replacing the inefficient Hindu church with a new Private Health-care scheme. People now needed to pay to get Health-care, which allowed slightly better performance of the treatment of people, compared to the untrained Priests. Health-care all around was improved in general, which made people healthier, but the Church lost alot of influence, and as a result, refused to help construct other infrastructure. The focus on Private goods and services, however, helped make the people pleased.

508AD The first guild hall, the Crafts Guild Hall of Angkor Wat, was created. This unlocks about a third of the guilds. In addition, in a surprise military tournement within the Sargon Army, it turned out that the generals were the best fighters. Thier tactics overpowered the soldiers raw power every time. This gave new power to the Generals, and the Sargon army, from this day forth, encouraged its Generals to engage in war games to encourage it's people to fight as one army.

I don't even know if that will do anything, but it is fitting.

End of session. The celts are still at the walls of Osaka (figuratively speaking, as Osaka doesn't actually have walls), and our power has grown signficantly in the past 500 years. It helped that the Celtic/Spanish war weakened both nations significantly.

So... if I am to conquer the entire planet, when should I start invading? What territories should I invade, and when? I plan to invade the Middle-East very soon, but the territory is quite pathetic! If I go to war, the gains will be practically zero, but the losses will be severe. Only Osaka is worth keeping!

Does anyone know of a good tool to create a decent looking map? My previous map drawing skills are quite pathetic, and although they are functional, they are quite... poor quality. Think... overlaying-the-minimap-with-solid-colours-in-paint quality ;)

And if you haven't noticed, in my next session, the Khmer explore the world, research Cartography, as well as get a little closer to thier final goal... while uncovering a shocking secret (which really isn't all that shocking. Really... it isn't >.>)

It rather depends on what you want to do really. If you want to create a map to illustrate your story and show the growth of your empire, I suggest you'd take a screenshot of the map in Planet View (the game zoomed out) and draw on the screenshot.

You can also screenshot your map by opening your saved game (a copy of it, not the original saved game file!) in MapView. That program is a heavy beast to use though, but I've made some decent oversight maps of my own there from time to time...

The three-way war, and Discovery: 508AD - 760AD

517AD The great Khmer philosopher: Arkimedious, persuaded the government with his infallable argument about the state of the world. His observations of ships travelling from Banteay Kdei to Maya, and noticing that the ships travelled under the horizon on clear days, as well as an experiment where he measured the length of shadows on opposite sides of Khmer, and observations of the other celestial bodies, he was able to determine that the world was round, and not only that, but give an estimate for it's diameter (Unfortunatly, his estimate was twice the size of the actual diameter). As a result, he pursuaded the Khmer government to construct a huge fleet of ships to explore the other lands on the other side of the world. After all, if there wasn't something on the other side, the planet would topple over, wouldn't it!?

And the Exploration team was created. It was several decades before they could leave, however, as the technology still wasn't perfected.

526AD The Khmer empire reached 5 million people.

544AD The Celts re-took Osaka, due to the tireless efforts of Cao Cao. Unfortunatly, he died of old age just 2 weeks before his prize finally fell into Celtic hands. Nonetheless, the small band of 600 crossbowmen was known throughout history as the bravest and strongest soldiers of Medieval Celt. In later millenia, a highly historically inaccurate and biased movie, by the name of "1000" hit the streets of Khmer.

As a result of this, and the fact that the Celts obviously had thier military stuck in the northern regions of thier territory, the Khmer took advantage, and the Sargon army split into two equal sized groups. The generals stuck with the northern reach, while the other group was lead by "Martisus", who previously was only in command of a small band of Pikemen.

553AD And within 7 years, the two armies crossed Celtic borders, and invaded. As an immediate result, the Celts refused to import thier Celtic Olives, and this made many thousand people angry all over Khmer.

However, the Khmer intellegance was partially wrong. The Celts had some seige machines in the southern reaches of thier territory, and the main Sargon army was ambushed. A scout was immediately dispatched, and 3 months later, the government was told that Sargon had been ambushed. The people feared the worst... but a month after, Sargon announced that the losses were minimal, less than 2000 people died in that battle, and they were still fighting at nearly full strength.

In 562AD, the two armies reached thier respective targets. The first city to fall was Seoul.

Battle of Seoul (562AD)
Belligerants: Khmer vs. Celtia
Khmer troops:
500 Trebuchets
200 Catapults
500 Ballista Elephants
1000 Pikemen
4000 Axemen

Celtic Troops
1000 Macemen
1000 Longbowmen
1000 Pikemen
1000 Gallic Swordsmen

Losses in this confrontation were moderate, around 700 Khmer troops were lost, most of them Trebuchets and Catapults.

A few months later, the city of Osaka came under seige. But this blitz raid was fast, and within another 4 months, it fell too:

Battle of Osaka
Belligerants: Khmer vs. Celtia
Khmer Troops:
480 Trebuchets
100 Catapults
80 Ballista Elephants
3500 Axemen

Celtic Troops
1000 Crossbowmen
100 Trebuchets
1000 Yumi Samurai (Hired from Osaka to defend themselves)
500 Mounted Infantry

The battle was a tight battle, and many emergancy reinforcements were sent in from both sides, but Osaka fell, and was immediatly reinforced by 3000 Longbowmen from Banteay Kdei.

571AD Despite the bribes sent by the Khmer, The Americans won a land-slide victory in getting into the Apostolic Palace for a second term, after the old Papacy died out.

But the Celtic war was not over yet. The Celts successfully lead a phyruic victory against the city of Osaka. 1000 Longbowmen, and many other soldiers were killed in the battle to keep a city under control. Nonetheless, the Khmer counter-attacked, wiping out all the remaining Celtic soldiers. This defeat, and the threat of further wars persuaded the Celts to accept a peace with the Khmer. And thus, the new exploration fleet was no longer required to defend Khmer shores, and they prepared for the biggest expedition ever.

Note: This deal was accepted. The "That is just crazy talk" is me trying to negotiate peace between Celts and the Spanish in addition to what is there. And Sargon was promoted to Tactics III, on the way to Command II. The Leadership promotion isn't doing anything though :(

580AD The first wave of Khmer Caravels left Banteay Kdei, to explore the new 'balancing land'

598AD After improved map-making skills was discovered, Khmer carteographers were sent out to map out the Spanish knowledge of the world, which currently was mapped out by folklore and religion. The Spanish were quite happy of this deal, especially since they were told how to make better armours from the Khmer. The additional maps they discovered surprised the Khmer... Several things they took for granted were completely wrong.

Firstly, the Hindu holy city and the Confucius Holy city were inside the same territory!

The Celtic capital was still recovering from thier humiliating loss to the Khmer

But the Spanish map-knowledge was poor around the southern Persian territories, some land which hadn't been visited in several thousand years!

607AD The Celts adopted thier own native religion: Kemetism, thus breaking the bond with Spain and Inca.

634AD Due to massive starvation in Osaka, the Khmer rapidly designed and created a large amount of temporary farmland. This was able to stop the famine, and over the next few years, this farmland was replaced with waterwheels. However, over 105,000 Celts died over that 7 year period.

643AD The first colonisation mission left the safety of the Mayan sea (After a small 18 year period of confusion), and started travelling from tiny island to tiny island over the Atlantic. Progress was slow. However, in 652AD The Americans proudly boasted that they had found a new civilisation, in a distant land. The Khmer burned with jealousy.

But it all payed of in 679AD, where the first natives of a distant land were discovered by the Khmer.

Initial diplomatic relations by the Diplomatic team on-board started off well. They negotiated that they should be allowed to explore inland, as they just wanted to make friends with the people on the island. After much discussion they agreed, albiet reluctantly. They even offered to share folklore about the land, and the on-board carteographers were very pleased. However, during one of these sessions, the local was told about a distant land, a rabid group of people, called the Babylonians. Once the government was questioned about these people, they refused to even acknoledge thier existance. After several minutes of more and more heated discussions, the carteographers decided to drop it.

The next day, a new native was sent to talk to the Carteographers. When they asked what happened to the old person, the new native just sat there ... silent.

The expedition left a few months later, stocked up on supplies, and traveled north.

706AD A few decades later, and now full of a mission half-full of Natives, they reached the German people, who existed on a completely different continent. The Native Americans knew of them, but nothing about thier land. They too refused to publically announce the existance of the Babylonians. The explorers wondered... what were these people? And what was the conspiricy?

The Germans also allowed explorers to travel through thier land. But soon after, they realised they were not alone. A large group of American Pirates had fled to the New World to make thier profits, and they were not peaceful towards the Khmer explorers.

Note: This is a bug/feature of RoM and AND. Basically, they are like old barb-spawns, but they are of units which are IN THE FUTURE. These are Galleons, which probably won't hit the seas for another 2 centuries. And in AND, technological supremacy is key, so these units are absolutely terrifying. In this story, however, they are *really* 3 groups of caravels. Really >.> So that is 600 ships right there

715AD 9 years later, the Arabians were discovered.

The Arabians leaders announced that the Babylonians were a real nation, and encouraged them to explore to the south.

724AD The explorers fought off the American Pirates, and surprisingly survived. However, thier ships were highly damaged, and they couldn't enter the German city. Surrounded, and weak, the diplomatic team was dropped off in Berlin, and told that the Khmer people would never forget them. 9 years later, they were wiped out.

733AD The American people were the first people to renounce thier Hindu ways, and adopted a Secular state.

However, the diplomats still alive in Germany, managed to send off a message to the Khmer people. In this message, they announced that the Natives were woefully technologically backwards. They had only recently discovered iron-working, and only the Native Americans could build decent Longbows to defend. The explorers estimated that they were 800 years behind, technologically.

This is because they are classified as a 'New World' civ for the purposes of Barbarian Cities. This means that they become about an era behind all other nations when they spawn, rather than having the average technological rate. Also, the fact that they missed out on all the religions means they can only expand a little, and the raging barbarians on thier continents makes expansion very hard. Poor Native nations :( But once the New World civs land on the New World, tech diffusion will bring them up to speed RAPIDLY. I once had a civ advance nearly 2000 years of tech in just a 100 year war, because I was invading them, and adjacent borders + big tech lead + at war = MASSIVE tech diffusion rate!

751AD Mayan scientists give the knowledge of gunpowder to the Khmer, in exchange for the knowledge of Cartography, and a small gold some. To the Khmers relief, some of the existing mines had sulpher for gunpowder production.

In this year, the European diplomats discovered that an ancient civilisation, the Vikings, had been wiped out by the Arabians several centuries ago.

Finally, an American Brigantine was discovered in the sea by the Arabian city of Nidaros. The Diplomats negotiated for the American maps, and they obliged, for a massive sum of gold:

The maps proved two things: #1 The world was round, but much smaller than inticipated. And... the Persian empire was mostly over a large island chain. They had even captured a new continent, called 'South Asia'

760AD Inspired by the best maps in the world, the Fourth, and last expedition party travelled to South Europe to finally break the mystery of Babylonia.

End of session. I am doing very well, but the newly captured cities mean that my economy has dropped to 40/10/10/40 research/culture/espionage/tax rate. In addition, I am constantly being hit by terrorist actions, so a counter-terrorist plan needs to be set up. The Persian colonisation of Australia (South-Asia) in this game was surprising, but nothing more than the existance of another island to the SOUTH-WEST of Australia (It is a three-tile island, colonised by America). And, FYI, NZ is to the SOUTH-EAST of Australia ... and often represented by a peak. Or a plains/sheep tile >.>. If you look REALLY hard, you can see it in the 'Europe' screenshot, in the far east of the globe. The American city is called Seattle.

In order, Diplo screen (yay for peace!), power graph (always worrying, especially with a secular America), and Demographics (Khmer is pushing 10 million, while the next nearest is just 5 million :P But Persia is the GNP leader, they are developing Frigates and Privateers... which will destroy our pathetic navy at the moment...

The next screen is the victory screen. I am third in Mastery score, America and Persia are beating me. The Celts are 9 points behind me.

For the un-initiated, I have changed the names of the continents, because having America and Native America NOT in North America (which it is named of of) is a little confusing.

So here is the conversions:

Africa -> Korea
Europe -> Maya
Asia -> North Asia
Australia -> South Asia
North America -> North Europe
South America -> South Europe
Antartica -> JbklDFubk87

Foriegn Colonization: 760AD - 1066AD

787AD It took 27 more years of sailing, but eventually, the Khmer encountered the Besieged Babylonians. The Babylonians had a solid and strong wall, and thier last city was mounted on a cliff-face. The garrison was impressively large, but they were equipped with stone and wooden weapons.

814AD The initial reaction to the nosy actions of the Khmer was disrespect from the Native Americans nearby. But after many years, the Native American despot was disposed, and the new despot to take his place asked the Khmer to help. The Khmer oblidged, but warned that there was no way they could send a significant military across the Atlantic ocean.

841AD In this year, the Khmer finally reached over 10 million people in thier nation.

859AD However soon after, and completely unrelated, the American city of Seattle decended into Anarchy due to a chronic lack of support and control. The rioting completely obliterated the pathetic local defence force, and within 6 months, local gangs overran Seattle.

Inspired by this reckless display of anarchy, Persian gun-smiths revolted in 868AD, and raised an army of 8000 Arquibusiers. However, this army was quickly quelled by a combined force the Persian garrison in Tolosa, and a small contingent from the Sargon Army.

886AD The Babylonians finally were defeated. However, thier destruction was surprising. The Khmer explorers, interested in seeing the progress of the war were stuck in the swamps, just north of Akkad. However, the Babylonians, seeing an unescorted explorer contingant, charged at the few hundred people. The swamps slowed the Explorer mobility, and faced in poor terrain against over 8000 Babylonian spearmen, the South Europe Diplomatic team was wiped out.

However, the lack of troops now standing in Akkad allowed a similar size of Native American troops to charge and wipe out the few remaining garrison troops in Akkad. Finally, they were wiped out, and the surviving Babylonian garrison fled into the wilderness, lost, and without a leader.

So, in a way, the Khmer helped win a war, without having any army. But the Native Americans were not that thankful, and soon forgot about the Khmer involvement in the war.

895AD The Great Engineer, Imhotep, became of age, and travelled to Osaka, to design a new great project, the Sistene Chapel:

In other news, the Arabians adopted Judaism, from a few Jewish missionaries traveling across the pacific.

913AD The Persian Sultanate decided to give the Khmer the knowledge of designing Brigantines, the second best naval ship of the time. This helped the Khmer, as thier navy was almost non-existant at that time. The Khmer gave the Persians improved printing methods and artistic methods. Printing Press and Perspective

In this year, the Native Americans adopted Confusism, while uncontrolled Confusist missionaries traveled across the Pacific.

922AD Imhotep finished his final painting, an impressive and legendary artform: The Sistene Chapel.

931AD The Persians were the first old-world civilisation to reach the new world, as Persian Knights captured a small Barbarian outpost, far east of North Europe.

958AD While the Khmer continued building new cannons for the Sargon army, the Germans adopted Confusism, strengthining the bond between the Native Americans, as well as allowing unity within thier own nation.

In this year, Seoul production stopped, as riots broke out in the city. As a response, the Khmer government bribed the revolutionaries, and hoped they stopped.

The Seoul revolutionaries were fighting for one reason. Thier city was the birthplace of Taoism, and yet thier religion was highly restricted, against the Hindu government.

1021AD The Spanish constitution was adopted by the Khmer, but in order to get this, the Khmer gave the Spanish thier improved printing methods and a method to construct clocks.

1048AD The Viking revolutionaries rose up against the Germans. This was surprising for the Khmer, as the revolutions was in South-Eastern North Europe, but the Viking old capital was hundreds of kilometers away, in North-West North Europe!

1066AD As the Khmer economy was extremely strong, the Scientists were told to improve Khmer guns (as the first Khmer Arquibusiers were being put into the defensive armies of Osaka), and Khmer declared war on the Celts, this time with the intention of capturing the entire Celtic nation. The first target was the Celtic city of Bibracte, and then the Kematist Holy City.

The Celts were annoyed at this invasion, but decided that they could fight the army of Sargon. Unfortunatly, the Sargon army simply traveled through a massive forest that practically traveled from the Celtic/Khmer border, all the way to Babracte, and the Khmer refused to allow the Celts to counter-attack. The far superiour Khmer military was planning on total conquest of the Celts.

Ironic, huh? Wiping out the Celts in a war that started in 1066AD ;) At the end of this, I will have a shrine (Albiet one which gives nothing for me, except +1 culture for all my specilists. So now my specilists have +3 :culture: ... if I capture the city.

In addition, the Persians and the Americans love thier colonies. The Persians and Americans both have 2 tiny colonies in Northern and Southern Europe. But if Tolosa is anything to go by, they won't hold it for very long!!

Good, good..
But if ye would play on snail speed, ye would notice how nice traits you have.

Cheers for good story.
