Roman Traits

It seems to me that certain of the traits lean to starting location and others seem to lean towards simple cultural diversity. Example:

Traits likeAgricultural,Seafaring, and Commercial would come from starting location

Traits such as Militeristic, Religious, Scientific, and Industrious would come from the evolution of your culture.

In this way starting loci traits could be assigned at the start or affect the start location of the civ. The others could be chosen at start or they could evolve over time.

How about each civ having their ratings, instead of having Specific Abilities... heres an example

GERMANY-
Military-5.0+
Commerce-2.0
Industry-3.0
Science-5.0+
Religion-1.0
Expansion-1.5
Agriculture-1.0
Seafaring-1.0
(just an example, not using thought :))
And then it would make it work alot better. So the civs are good at some things. Ok at others, and crappy in some areas. You guys like this idea? or am i dumb? :goodjob:

So far though, I also like the idea above this one.

That's a good idea. Also, your Civ should lvl up by winning battles, building Wonders, etc. until they are lvl 99! j/k

What about each Civ could have a percent of each trait.

For instance, a civ might be 50% militaristic, 30% seafaring, 15% commercial, 3% industrious, 2% religious.

Throughout the game, these traits would evolve, and give bonuses, base on....well...something...

I can't think of what to base the traits off of. What do you guys think of that though?

EDIT: Heh, I just read andrew's idea. This is pretty similar ;) Silly me, I only read the first page of the thread.

But where're the options?? Plus with these precise ratings, there's probably going to be a tendency to connect the them to the price of things. Say Expansion-3.0 - they get a scoutunit... what should you get at 3.5? a cheaper scout perhaps? ok, there are other ways to distinguish the different ratings, but I'm just not sure if it's worth the effort to have them this precise...

I'll just pimp my own idea instead and copy it to this side :mischief: -

What about giving each civ a limited preset pool of traits based on their real history.
Say Germany could have slots for:
Militaristic OO
Scientific OO
Industrial OO
Religious O
Expansionist O

While the Scandinavians could have slots for:
Militaristic OO
Seafaring OO
Religious O
Commercial O
Industrial O

...for example, and then you pick one at the time at the entering of a new era, or at the beginning of the game.
Both choice and simple enough.

Perhaps... you start the game and all that you see is the starting location obelisk. You are allowed to select your attributes... afterwards your settler appears with worker and possible scout. Starting techs are also given.

I meant to suggest this for Civ4 but never got around to it ... Civ should have an additional trait called "Lawful." Lawful civs have lower corruption, like Commercial, short anarchy like Religious, and get half price courthouses and police stations.

The Romans would be Lawful and Militaristic. The Chinese would be Lawful and Industrious (or maybe Commercial). The Indians would be Lawful and Religious.
