Original Posting:
There's a new scenario about the First Punic War ready. Besides announcing it, this thread comprises: scenario description, system requirements and download information.

Please look for discussion, feedback, updates, questions, bug-reports and all that in the original development thread over at civforum.de. When I created the scenario last year, I was much less busy than now. I simply can't afford timewise to maintain another thread like that. (The scenario itself is fully translated to English, though.)

Set in 264 BC, the Sicilian city of Messana is about to lose its independence to Carthaginians and Syracusans. Thus, emissaries of Messana appeal to the Roman senate. And the Romans decide to grant help. That marks the beginning of a war, whose outcome meant Roman control over the Western Mediterranean.

Following the historical timeline, the scenario ends in 241. Time increments are months. That means a total number of 288 turns to achieve a time victory. There's also a special "sudden death" victory conditon, though, that lets you win immediately, if Rome conquers the opponen'ts capital, or if Carthage takes Rome. In either case you get to see a victory movie, which mourndraken made for this, exclusively.

The faction leaders are Hamilkar Barkas, father of "the" famous Hannibal, and Lucius Cornelius Scipio, grandfather of the better known Publius Cornelius Scipio, who defeated Hannibal. At the beginning, these men are yet at peace with each other. During the first two turns the action will kick off. That's the only scripted part of the scenario. After that, things evolve unpredictably. You players can freely change the course of events.

One big difference to other scenarios you played will be the fog of war. At start you'll be seeing a largely black map with only a few major cities highlighted and apart from that only the territory of your vassals revealed. When you explore or exchange maps with your friends, you will find, that only the rivers, coastlines and wonders remain visible; all other territory falls back into the black fog of war, unless you spend a great deal of espionage points on an opponent to create a more stable visibility of his lands.

First of all, this scenario only works with the mod Pie's Ancient Europe. Get it here. This mod requires BTS 3.19. It's both for Windows and Mac and supports Multiplayer. The map size is 100x72, quiet big, but has plenty of water tiles without cities and units wandering around, that take up a lot of calculating power, so it should be safely playable for everyone, even if you're avoiding large sized maps in your common BTS games.

The Punic War scenario is now availabe with the official 5th patch of PAE.
